Breakfast Topic: It's the little things

Hidden in the upper corner of The Threads of Fate in Dalaran is a curious little cobbler named Sheddle Glossgleam. While he seems to be an ordinary vendor, it's really the chair next to him that makes him much more entertaining -- when you sit on the chair, he'll toddle over and shine your shoes for you. This buff last for an hour -- or until you take combat or fall damage and scuff your feet. Don't worry though, a quick trip to the chair will get your toes glittering again in no time.
I love NPCs like this -- the NPCs that do curious things like punt you all the way across Azeroth, or murder unsuspecting lowbies that don't understand that right-clicking a yellow conned NPC will result in a swift punch to the face. The NPCs with stories, like the saga of Grifta from Burning Crusade, and the continuing adventures of Investigator Asric and Peacekeeper Jadaar.
While they serve no real purpose, they're always there to entertain, buff, or amuse. There's always an NPC or two that never fail to bring a smile to my face, and that I look forward to meeting on whatever alt I happen to be playing. Who's your favorite NPC? What's your favorite little thing in the game?

Woo Ping, because he's awesome.
Banic Rhys Feb 16th 2010 8:27AM
Oh and the two dwarves outside the inn at Wildhammer Stronghold.
Dreamstorm Feb 16th 2010 8:33AM
@ Banic
Why?
Banic Rhys Feb 16th 2010 8:40AM
Which one did you ask why about?
Banic Rhys Feb 16th 2010 8:53AM
If it's for the dwarves here's why.
Barimoke Wildbeard says: Bron! 'Ey, Bron! Hit me!
Bron Goldhammer blinks, a perplexed expression crossing his face.
Bron Goldhammer says: What, with me fists?
Barimoke Wildbeard says: Nae, that's fer wimps. Hit me with yer hammer!
Bron Goldhammer says: I'm... not sure that's a good idea, 'Moke. Ye might get hurt...
Barimoke Wildbeard says: DO IT, YE PANSY!
*Bron pretty much casts Hammer of Wrath on Barimoke*
*Barimoke lies motionless on the ground*
Bron Goldhammer says: Er... 'Moke?
*Barimoke hops up*
Barimoke Wildbeard says: ... THAT WAS GREAT!
And they do this over and over again.

Second on Barimoke and Bron - still the best NPC interaction I've seen in game - I could watch these guys all day!

I can tell you what little touch I hate most. The Battle Mage in Ulduar who asks "Any Luck?" right as you run to the teleporter, usually after a wipe. I know he's just talking to the other mage, but I never stick around long enough for the rest of the conversation to play out. Progression on Mimiron hard mode made me want to roll a horde toon and murder all his friends in Silverpine for a few hours.
Dreamstorm Feb 16th 2010 8:33AM
In fact, he's not talking to the other mage when he asks 'Any luck?' He only asks it when a player approaches them, generally after a wipe.
Daigeil Feb 16th 2010 3:48PM
untrue, Dreamstorm. He's asking the other guy whether he's managed to get the teleporter working. It -is- triggered by the approach of players, but that's what's being talked about. ;P

Yea, but the timing of that....I too wish I could have given him a swift kick....

I was wondering around Dalaran with my new ooze pet looking for critters for it to eat. I ran down into the sewer where it was busy eating rats... when I noticed that one of the rats it was swallowing was talking to four turtles at the time.
I appreciate this means we'll be defenseless should any human-body-related ninja clans decide to invade Dalaran.
Sinthar Feb 16th 2010 8:29AM
If you wait longer - the pet will eat ALL of em - turtles, rat, all.
Angus Feb 16th 2010 8:28AM
Those turtles are one of the most often submitted screenshots here. I do find it amusing that their only enemy is the ooze...
For me the best detail has to be the Elder they changed in Thunder Bluff. Look for Ezra and his pheonix. Elder Wheathoof, a great way to honor a great child that left us far too soon.

The wasteling will also eat Mr. Bigglesworth, may he rest in peace.
Matchu Feb 16th 2010 8:16AM
Well it's Tuesday and I've still not been paid for that burger...
Sinthar Feb 16th 2010 8:29AM
Ahhh but did you give him a handburger before?
IvanP91 Feb 16th 2010 8:34AM
I would gladly pay you Wednesday for a hamburger today.

The amount of smut that stars Investigator Asric and Peacekeeper Jadaar is simply -amazing-. *cough* Can't wait to see them become heroes!
I love the NPCs that act like real players. The ones who talk to one other, have some story line within wow, but it's not that important for anyone else to care about. Those characters make me happy. I always wonder about the NPCs pacing around Dalaran. Why are they there? Why do they need new weapons? Why are most of them still in their TBC gear!? I must know their stories!
The Honor Hold Defender pacing outside the outhouse is a new favorite of mine. Yelling and screaming, always makes me giggle.
Kitrine Feb 16th 2010 10:51AM
The Honor Hold defender is hilarious! That's one of my favorite parts of having another toon reach Outlands.
Here's what the defender says:
"OY! You in there, this is official Honor Hold business yer holdin' up!"
"Do ya want me to call a medic? Maybe a priest? Its been over an hour mate!"
"So help me, I'm gonna count to ten and if yer not outta there by the time I reach 10, I'm comin' in!"
"What's goin' on in there? For the love of the LIGHT, hurry it up!"
Eddy Feb 16th 2010 1:18PM
There are a few slightly naughty drawings (mostly kissing) of Asric and Jadaar that please me way more than they really should. If you have any links to fiction, I'd really appreciate those to be passed on. ^^
I hope they don't just stay at the tournament.
