The Daily Quest: The Lunar Festival

The Lunar Festival started this past Sunday and will be running until March 7th -- but there's no reason not to start on this one right now if you're after achievements, reputation, or have simply run out of other grinds. (Really, I mean "grind" in the nicest way possible here -- but there are a heck of a lot of elders to visit if you're trying to get your achievements.) But if you're interested in getting involved, we've rounded up all the web has to say about the Lunar Festival.
- Start at the source with Blizzard's official Lunar New Years information
- In case you missed it, we have our own write-up of elders and achievements
- Check out WoWWiki's event write-up as well as their list of elder locations
- Wowhead has a guide as well as a comprehensive list of achievements
- Flame Shock wrote up a guide and recommends the Lunar Festival Tour Guide addon for your elder-finding needs
- Letters from Birdfall has some great tips on elder locations inside dungeons
- The Fluid Druid offers some practical advice on what you're likely to encounter in this year's festival -- for my part, I keep getting stuck on the "get lost trying to find elder" stage

Only got Elders of the Dungeons left to do myself. Spent the past 2 days doing the Lunar Festival and Love is he Air.
I've got a stack of coins which will never be spent.

It would be nice if you could purchase Elune stones for 1 coin each.

Dumplings it is then!

I have to do this on my main for the achievement. I also have to run around on my lvl 28 warrior and get something like 10 elders so that I can buy all of the engineering schematics from the Holiday. I am a completionist idiot for my professions, I want EVERY recipe.....and this is the only way to get a few.

if you are a healer or a tank try ticking the dungeons with the elders in the RDF then list your self as DPS. You will get about 10-15 mins between each dungeon which is plenty of time for you to pick of a few elders on horseback.
Also elders of the horde are quiet easy because they are near entrances and they are all in areas where not many players go.

-- there's an interesting article at Brick Tank about the idea of mana being the "blue rage bar" for low-level druid tanks. Neat stuff.

I second the TourGuide guide for it. It flakes out a little in Northrend, but they weren't too hard to find.
For those of you Hordies sneaking into Stormwind to do it, I'd really recommend going in through the Harbor to the park rather than the traditional way of Ironforge - Tram - Stormwind because, on my server at least, when someone from IF announced that a person was doing the Elder there (cause the Elder's RIGHT in front of where Alliance players port into IF at), more than one eighty hangs out by the entrance to the tram on Stormwind to wait for you.

Classic Alliance dirty tricks there from the faction who loves camping graveyards.
"King's honour friend"....ah ha, sure.
Have a stooge come on to all the forums and tell people where to go, say don't go to the tram as we will be waiting there, go to the port, you will be safe, we promise.
I for one won't fall for your dirty tricks and will be going to the tram!

HAH!
Believe that if you want, but I'm Horde too, and had a helluva time trying to get into Stormwind cause of that.

I like the Tour Guide module for the Lunar Festival. Only problem is that the original Tour Guide, the base addon that you plug the Lunar Festival module into, has disappeared. It's not on Curse and on WowInterface there is only a screen with the message "Temporarily disabled as per the author's request." I'm sure many people already have it but there may be some new folks that don't.
Hope it comes back soon.

I don't suppose anyone has any idea where to find a copy of TourGuide that's still available? it's Impossible to find as far as I can tell, all the normal websites seem to have had it removed, and there's no information about its removal on Tekkub's main site.
DarkWalker Feb 18th 2010 2:49PM
Zygor has bought the TourGuide addon from Tekkub and asked for it to be taken out of every site where you could download it, so it can only be used with Zygor's own guides.

The wowwiki link is really helpful. I started on sunday and got the meta today. Just took forever for the Northrend elders because Alliance on Area 52 fails pretty bad at WG.
tgrhwke Feb 17th 2010 8:34AM
Yes, the WoW Wiki walk through link for the Elders is good. I used it last year for my main and completed all except the instance ones in around an hour. Now with the Dungeon Finder even the instance ones are easier and quick to get depending on role queue times.

I went Elder hunting on Sunday, finished off the dungeon elder's on Monday. I've finished all of the achievements for this seasonal except 1:

I just, just can't seem to get this, and I really don't know what to try anymore, I tried the haste buffing thing (I read somewhere), I tried at diffrent times of the day, and only try in SMC where lag is supposed to be least hassling. But I ALWAYS miss it by 1 rocket on the timer, by fractions of the second.
I'm from South Africa and 'good' latency for me is 500ms, bad is 1200ms+. Am I basically screwed out of this achievement because of where I live? Will I not get my grape-juice proto drake because of 1 @$#% rocket??
If anyone out there has any (positive) advice, please please please dish it out, I'm really at my wit's end here.
Potvorka Feb 17th 2010 8:32AM
in other events are some achievement much more harder for your latency like torch jungling :-)
Just try to use some zone with lowest population on your server, like Darnasus and see if it will be better.
The time when is lowest number of online ppl is 5:00 morning server time (my experiences).
If it will be fail even so, change your password for something like opkl987, choose someone who has better conection and you can absolute trust him, let him do that achievement - it should be possible easy at first try and change password back to yours. (but this advice would Blizz dont like:))

yeah, just leave the city when you do the loverockets. run outside where your'e alone and don't have all the city traffic clogging up your bandwidth. i had the same problem.
Kimyas Feb 17th 2010 7:18AM
Why did they remove the Money and/or XP from the quests?
I remember last year I leveled my druid quite a lot and got a nice amount of money on my main doing the elders
bmiller Feb 17th 2010 7:59AM
the XP seems to be gone. I got nearly a level and a half on one of my lowbie toons and after the 5-6th one I noticed that XP bar wasn't moving
Askia Feb 17th 2010 8:09AM
I did it all on Sunday, the first day it was available. Started at 9 and finished at 11:30. Thanks to Wow Insider for their guide, I stuck to it the whole way. Did the Horde cities early, when less people were about. Just grinded the dungeon ones using the Dungeon Finder, needed the badges anyway. Fun achievement, can't wait for Easter.
