Anne talked recently about
all the bits and pieces that tend to accumulate in a packrat's bank vault, and I'm one of the guilty parties. I'm a hardcore collector of feral staves, tier sets, tabards, and assorted items that I just can't bring myself to delete (
Seal of Ascension -- seriously,
why do I still have this?). Unfortunately, the tendency carries over into quests as well. Over the course of doing
Loremaster, I knocked off most of the older quests littering my log, and now I'm left with two. One's a nightmare to finish --
The Good News and The Bad News, which is part of the
Scepter of the Shifting Sands line and an enormous pain in the ass due to the 10
Elementium Ores required. I've resigned myself to the quite-likely possibility that it'll be there for months to come.
The other one, much like the stuff clogging my bank, is something I can't force myself to drop.
Echoes of War sent people to the original version of Naxxramas, and was required for the tier 3 questline. Incredibly enough, it was even shareable when
Wrath came out, and our early Naxx raids at 80 had a good laugh over it. But I'm afraid to turn it in -- not just because the follow-up quest probably isn't there anymore, but also for some reason I don't think I can articulate very well. If I turned it in, I guess I'd feel like another little piece of old Azeroth was gone forever.
Do you have any quests like this sitting around in your log, and what keeps you from turning them in?

Whenever I am feeling down, I just open up my quest log, and it tells me Everything Will Be Alright.
Tomatketchup Feb 17th 2010 12:50PM
Whenever I open up my quest log I always see "Victory in Wintergrasp". Not because I want, but it's just hanging there just in case Alliance would win in Wintergrasp... sometime... *shrug*

Fairly sure you can turn in that quest, which opens up The Only Song I Know... (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=9232). That one, unfortunately will sit in your quest log forever, as Frozen Runes (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22682) aren't in the game anymore. Bit unpolished of Blizzard to leave it active imho.

Not unless your bank alt has some lying around. We are talking about holding on to outdated junk, afterall.
Snowfeather Feb 17th 2010 4:33PM
I turned in my Echoes of War quest and did not get the follow up, so keep it sir, and hold on to it close.
As to other silly things, I still have the Scepter of the Shifting Sands, Drakefire Amulet, Seal of Ascension and Aqual Quintessence in my bank. Sitting proudly next to my Onyxia Scale Cloak. I did get rid of a lot of the tier gear however, since imo the only good looking druid set is T3, and by extension T7, which I do in fact have and still wear in Dalaran.

@Snowfeather
You may have overlooked it, the "follow-up" is actually a separate quest that becomes available from a different NPC.
Gronck Feb 17th 2010 8:12AM
Actually, the next quest *is* there, but it can't be completed. I had it in my quest log for all the months that we raided Naxx even a bit after, but finally gave up and dropped it. The problem is that the folluw-up quest sends you looking for a drop from trash in Naxx relating to Ramaladni...and the item never drops. Ever. It's quite sad, I was hoping I would finally get a chance to finish off the old Naxx quests.
Beruza Feb 17th 2010 8:23AM
What's sad is that the quest is still available. I was working on Loremaster and came across Echoes of War. I didn't think I would still be able to complete it but I did. Now I have the next quest, just like you, and I can't finish it. If a quest isn't completable, it should be removed from the game.
Maybe in Cataclysm, they will bring back the old Naxx so we can finish those quests. One can be hopeful....right?
Thundrcrackr Feb 17th 2010 10:12AM
I have a couple uncompletable old Naxx quests as well. It really annoys me that i can't complete them.
I don't understand why Blizz can't just add a "classic" raid option. We already can choose between 10 or 25 man as an option for current raids. I don't see why they can't stick a "classic" in there too.
In Naxx's case, the fact that the entire thing moved to Northrend might be the reason...but they could have done this with Onyxia's lair at least. And come to think of it, they could have just left the old Naxx where it was. There is plenty of stuff in the old world that doesn't really make sense now after the events of BC and WotLK, so having old Naxx there too wouldn't really be a big deal.
Brian Feb 17th 2010 10:40AM
What's worse is that the creatures/people themselves actually show the quest information when you mouse over them. So Blizz is stating that the mobs *drop* the item, yet they never do.
I'm not sure why they didn't leave the old instance in as a switch that you can hit. I know some of it was design decisions when wrath came out, but it's not like those instances are really gone (Onyxia-60 and Naxx-60). It actually would be nice to leave them there as a switch you can zone into.
It definitely gives you a false sense of hope to relive the old days.

The Only Song I Know, another Old Naxx quest, which is now impossible to complete -- just like the one to find out what happened to Ramaladni.
Two nights ago, I cleared out a lot of the old crap out of both my bank -- Insignias of the Dawn and Crusade, Agent of Nozdormu, Dark Iron Scraps, all that old rubbish -- and my quest log. I now have bank and bag space to spare, which is a first.
I wonder if any of it would have vanished due to being deleted from the server come Cataclysm. Ah well, I'll never know now.
klink-o Feb 17th 2010 8:16AM
I still have "The Fate of Ramaladni" sitting in my log, forever unfinished. "The Alliance Needs More Purple Lotus!" is in there too, which is actually sharable. Every now and then someone shares it with the WG raid and they usually don't take no for an answer.
Konifer Feb 17th 2010 8:22AM
I personally can't stand having completed quests in my log if they're ready to be turned in, although I do keep quests that I will never get done (such as The Sacred and the Corrupt 25 man).
A friend on my server has the CLUCK!, Save Metzen the Reindeer, and a bunch of other pre-BC quests that he just hasn't turned in for whatever reason.

September of 2005 the Left Binding dropped from Garr and I was the lucky guy to get it. I promptly went to Silithus and got the quest asking for the 2 bindings, 10 elementium bars and the ragnaros quest item.
Flashforward 4 years
September of 2009, and after soloing Garr for more than a year, the Right Binding dropped, and fore the 1st time in 4 years my questlog was empty!
Of course now I have the Shadow's Edge quest, and since I'm a tank and my guild isn't especially hardcore I'll have the Shadowmourne quests in my log for quite a few years :P

My main has Brother Betrayers (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11414) still sitting in her log, so she can keep the worg disguise to run around as a worg in Howling Fjord. Which ofcourse she never actually does, but hey, maybe ONE DAY I will feel the need to run around in circles like a worg mmmkay..!
My lvl 61 paladin still has Consumed by Hatred sitting in her log, the quest where Mankrik asks you to kill 60 quillboar after finding out his wife has died. After reading Dusk's wonderful You Awaken in Razor Hill story (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=20677329926&) I now do this quest on most of my toons (also on alliance... I know I'm a nerd) and left this one in the pallies log to remember. One day she will finish killing those 60 quillboar.
(also wonder if the quest will remain in the log after Cata comes out.. hm hm!)
I also have Cluck! (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=3861) sitting in the logs of various toons, to share in annoying or funny groups and raids.
Sanguinarius Feb 17th 2010 9:22AM
There is actually an off-hand book that will turn you into a worg for 5 minutes or so, once every hour. It's crafted, so if you'd like to be a worg anywhere, anytime, just hit up a friendly inscriptor. I believe it's called Rituals of the New Moon.
And yes, it's a Twilight reference.
Vogie Feb 17th 2010 10:27AM
Despite idiotic ascertains to the contrary, all werewolf lore had a large portion to do with moon cycles, LOOONG before pathetic excuses of pseudo-gothic romantic fiction for teens was again written in the mid-2000s. Werewolf mythos begins at least by the 13th century, if not before. More specifically, in ancient times & cultures, people born during a new moon phase were believed to have a large chance of becoming a werewolf.
Kittens Feb 17th 2010 12:05PM
I know about the inscription worg book thingies (there's four, I believe?), but 5 mins just isn't enough..!! ;)
Apart from that, I stay far away from any twilight stuff.. I just enjoy running as a wolf with my worg pup out, being silly.
Maddie Hatter Feb 17th 2010 6:44PM
Thanks.
I just spent SIX HOURS reading the entire "You Awaken at Razor Hill"
...SIX HOURS!
But it was worth every second :D Thanks for linking to that, it was amazing!
