Drop rate of Big Love Rocket not a bug
Some concerns have been expressed recently over the abysmally low drop rate of the Big Love Rocket. The drop rate was thought to be lower than 1-2% and Bornakk chimed in on the forums to confirm it. I'm not much of a big mount fanatic myself. The only rare one I have is the Obsidian Drake mount from Sartharion with 3 Drakes up. Now that I think about it though, I have yet to see anyone in Dalaran ride around with one of these rockets. As it stands, the drop rate of this rocket mount will not be raised anytime in the near future. Heck, even if they did, I know with my luck I would never see one of these.
If you're curious, as of today, there have only been 74 players with the Big Love Rocket Feat of Strength across North America and Europe. North America has seen 17 Big Love Rockets compared to the 54 for European players.
if you want to read more about drop chance and probability, check out Brian's post about it back in January. It's guaranteed to make your head spin!

Well that is just not fair! They should raise the drop rate of the rocket so people can show off their good stuff :)
Ellanora Feb 17th 2010 11:48PM
I beg to differ, because as i was reading this article, one of the main things that jumped out at me was that it is a *feat of strength* to get it.
As for those who say they checked the list to see if any were found on their server, it may just not be updated yet because it seems to be so new, though I could be wrong on that part.

I had always assumed the drop rate would be extremely rare because there is only one other rocket mount in the game and that mount is selling for $400 on ebay. I couldn't see Blizzard undercutting the TGC.
Trid Feb 18th 2010 12:59AM
Ok, first, I know the statistics are flawed here...I have the rocket on Stormreaver US (character name Tridacis), and I am not showing up on this list. So, the statistics you put out are not accurate.

@Trid: If you go to the website and don't find your character with a certain achievement, there's an option somewhere on the page to add your character. Just punch in your realm, zone, char name and a security code, and then it is included in the next daily update.

It's perfectly fair, it's Blizzard's games, they're free to make the rules. Your sense of fairness means nothing. In any case, there are quite a few drops that have a rather low drop-rate as well as many more that previously had lower drop-rates.
For example, the Ashes of Al'ar (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32458) have a 1-2% drop-rate, the Deathcharger's Reins (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13335) also have a 1-2% drop-rate. Then we also have something like the Great Brewfest Kodo which has about the same drop-rate as the Ashes of Al'ar (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37828). All this according to WowHead anyways.
Mr. Tastix Feb 18th 2010 2:39AM
Oh, another good example would be The Horseman's Reins: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37012
If that drop-rate is true than it is the lowest drop-rate I have EVER seen for a mount (again: on WowHead, lol).

While that website is interesting, it is incredibly inacurate. Characters must be added manually to be tracked and it will not track any character with less than 2000 points.
In my experience the rarest of mounts are always won by the most casual member of the group. This website will never be able to track this achievement unless it adds an armory crawler like wow-achievements.com. Too bad that website lacks a search by achievement feature.

@Ellanora More like feat of stupidity - between all the alts I have and my friends have we have been summoning him like 30 times a day, and no rocket.
And just 2 pets :/.
chipersoft Feb 18th 2010 11:31AM
@Ellanora: All the event mounts are feats of strength. Brewfest Ram, Brewfest Kodo, Headless Horseman's Mount... all of them, yet I've at least seen all three of those drop. The fact that only 17 love rockets dropped in the entire united states is just ridiculous, it's not even a 310% speed mount.
As frustrating as this is, I'm more annoyed at the piss poor drop rate on the blue items, like the pet and the heartbreaker. Following the wowhead comments on the mount, out of over 1400 summons only 9 heartbreakers and 64 pets. That's just mean, to tell us these things are here and then make them close to impossible to get.
Trid Feb 18th 2010 2:13PM
actually this is a 310% mount, whoever told you it wasn't lied to you...trust me, i have it and I have no other 310% mounts.
Trid Feb 18th 2010 2:24PM
and here, for the nay sayers.

please note the mouse over on the buff in the upper left.
Also, I do not have another 310% mount, so that is not what you see here. This is indeed a 310% mount.
Trid Feb 18th 2010 2:25PM
ok, ya, the upper right, u know what i mean...WTB edit button...
Starsmore Feb 18th 2010 3:31PM
More to chipersoft-
Would it disappoint you to say that I've personally DE'd about 6 heartbreakers, and I've only been in on about 25 summons?
Neodarkmatter Feb 17th 2010 9:23PM
I think 19 in all of the North America servers is lower than it should be. Tried looking up my server since I know I saw one and it isn't listed. Then looked up The Horsemen's Reins achievement and no one is listed for my server.
Coal Feb 18th 2010 9:43AM
I highly doubt the "17" on North American servers as well. I'm also surprised that no one has mentioned that the Wowhead data suggests that the drop rate is probably something like 1/2500.
Mattimus Feb 17th 2010 9:23PM
I don't think that site is quite accurate, as I saw a Dwarf riding the Big Love Rocket outside the Alliance Inn in Dalaran yesterday on US-Wyrmrest Accord, which is absent from that list.
Don't recall the Dwarf's name, though.
Tokkar Feb 17th 2010 9:34PM
I saw this as well. Didn't notice who was riding it, just that someone was and yeah, it was in Dalaran (this time by the bank) on Wyrmrest Accord.
MisterMoose Feb 17th 2010 10:03PM
You sure it wasn't the Nether-Rocket XTREME?
Mattimus Feb 17th 2010 10:10PM
I'm quite certain I can tell the difference between a red rocket and a pink one.
Not to mention that they were on the ground, outside of the Inn, for quite a long time (much longer than it takes to dismount a flying mount).
