Two Bosses Enter: Eregos wreaks havoc to claim season title

Ladies and gentlemen, gnomes and ghouls ... We have our season champion: Ley-Guardian Eregos of The Oculus! In the hotly contested finals of the Wrath Original Five-Man season, Eregos tipped the scales to triumph over Anub'Arak, 48% to 42.6%. Such was the confusion that spectators hardly knew which way to look, with nearly 10% of them throwing up their hands to declare the death match a tie.
In fact, the Ley-Guardian's time inside the Two Bosses Thunderdome was anything but routine.

The Ley-Guardian's first sortie of the season was actually the last match of the season's first bracket, setting the tone: the beginning of the end. This match originally appeared to be the end of the road for Eregos. Loken easily took down the great dragon, 59.8% to 36.9%, knocking the Ley-Guardian out of the race.

The spectators roared their support of the defeated Eregos later in the season, voting him back in a move designed to balance the season's brackets.

Eregos was first up for the next bracket of Thunderdome matches, taking on Keristrasza of the Nexus. The emotional match was close, but Eregos finally downed Keristrasza 50.7% to 44.2%.

Fresh off his victory against Keristrasza, an energized Eregos blazed into the Thunderdome once again to face Skadi the Ruthless. This time, Eregos pulled off one of the most one-sided victories of the season, with 75.3% of the spectators roaring their approval (compared to Skadi's paltry 22.6% vote).

Revenge! The luck of the draw finally brought the Ley-Guardian full circle to face his original opponent in the season's semi-finals. This time, Eregos exacted his revenge, snaring 56.5% of the vote to Loken's mere 36.9%.

He may have gotten off to a rough start in the season, but Eregos pulled through in the end, toppling the mighty Anub'Arak in the finals, 48% to 42.6%. Nearly 10% of the spectators found themselves milling about in the "Tie/Something Else Happens" area of the Thunderdome lobby, despairing of being able to choose between the powerful foes in this tightly contested match. We encourage you to visit the original battle post to enjoy the many in-depth reader comments, many of them posted in hopes of being selected for the new Thunderdome judges' panel for the upcoming season.
And speaking of the judges' panel ...
The season ahead
In looking at the possibilities for our upcoming season, we're slightly revising the plan for our new panel of Thunderdome judges. The final plan:
- 2 permanent WoW.com panelists; the esteemed Messieurs Michael Gray and Matthew Rossi have graciously accepted panel seats
- 1 "celebrity" judge from the WoW community at large; filling the seat this season will be ICC-raiding mage/sci-fi author John Zakour
- 1 reader judge from WoW.com's own [1.Local] channel; reader Sky Paladin (he of the crazy Eck story) has enthusiastically accepted the position
And who will they be judging? Come back next week, as we kick off the next season of Two Bosses Enter, One Man Leaves: the Icecrown Five-Mans -- Trial of the Champion versus Icecrown Citadel!

And that Forgotten One in the Old Kingdom, too!

Yeah for sure. An agent of the lich king would never be bested on the field of your pathetic little tournament.

I still have to say I'm unhappy with Eregos' victory over Loken, and now over Anub'arak. In terms of scope, he's just another dragon ... Anub'arak is the Lich King's third in command, and Loken is a Titan. Both are simply too much, to my mind, for Eregos to handle, and I've said why before, so I won't go into detail again.
What I will do is provide an alternate, somewhat belated, ending. Anub'arak, not wanting a draw when he burrows and Eregos lifts off, leads a raid on Wyrmest Temple, killing Krasus, and altering the timeline such that Eregos is never born, and Malygos remains a gibbering wreck into the present day. Pleased with both himself and his new Azure Drake, Anub'Arak is now the king of the ground and of the sky.

Poor Anub. I assume he isn't going to get the Mulligan that Eregos got...

"I still have to say I'm unhappy with Eregos' victory over Loken, and now over Anub'arak. In terms of scope, he's just another dragon..."
He's "just another dragon" who happens to be graced with 3.8 million HP and attack abilities that hit for anywhere from 6,000 to 43,000 damage. There are LITERALLY raid bosses - IN WRATH - that are weaker than him. He's anything but "just another dragon," he is essentially the Sartharion to Malygos' Deathwing; a trusted guardian of the lair and one of the most powerful members of the entire flight.
As presented in the game, Eregos is far and away the most powerful of the heroic bosses. He's a colossus, one we can't even attempt to fight on our own - we'd get slaughtered. The only way we can even engage him with a chance at victory is to bring our own drakes into the fight.
I voted against my own personal favorite, Keristrasza, when she ran into this guy, and I was a bit annoyed when people fell back on the "well Loken's a Titan guy so he wins" explanation during their matches (during most of Loken's matches really) when battle and warfare aren't even part of Loken's profile.
As far as I see it, Ley-Guardian Eregos is the right and proper champion of the Wrath heroic season, and kudos to him for it.

I do! I especially remember playin a video game they made for NES. God I love nostalgia.

Will we ever see a raid version of two bosses enter? I wanna see Arthas take on Sarth 3d. Or Maly. Or even maly vs yogg-saron.
lisapoisso Feb 17th 2010 6:55PM
Absolutely! We're working our way upward towards that content now. The timing works well that way so that more readers can have time to experience the new ICC raid content by the time that season arrives.
itsthebrent Feb 17th 2010 8:01PM
I can see that season already..
ToC Anub'Arak - "Eregos was merely a setback!"
robert Feb 17th 2010 10:03PM
Lol setback.
Josin Feb 18th 2010 9:24AM
My money's on Algalon.
Sarah Bee Feb 17th 2010 7:04PM
I wonder, would it be possible on some private or edited server(not that I approve of those, just for argument sake) to ACTUALLY have these bosses fight ingame? I meant to actually see, for example, the ingame Thorim dishing it out against Kel'thuzad? Would such a thing be possible without the assistance of Blizzard tools or help?
Noid Feb 17th 2010 7:07PM
Quoted by me "Eregos is the worst boss" is allowed to be said. I believe i am entitled to my opinion just as you are. So thank you for your reply. I will laugh at your face all day Dreamstorm. Am i allowed to say that? Yes. Yes i am. Please don't post here if all you have to do is rip on other people. :)
Thanks!
Highstrung Feb 17th 2010 8:06PM
Adam West killed you therefore voiding your right to have an opinion.
Noid Feb 17th 2010 8:16PM
I like that comment. Thats funny.
Descender|LE Feb 17th 2010 7:23PM
What, Eregos? Even after the whole burrowing explanation?
WoW.com community, I am disappoint.
*sigh* Poor Anub'arak. He got so screwed over by Blizzard. I wanted more lore on my favorite bug!
Reis Feb 17th 2010 7:31PM
oh my goodness i quit.
j/k but seriously, this stinks. Oh well, there's always next season. :)
Perhaps we could have a rule that the winner of season one is busy touring and speaking to young people about the advantages of living right and staying in school etc. and therefore is unable to be Miss America I mean a Thunderdome competitor in the following year? Just a thought, u know, for all us blue-dragon-hating-type people out there.
Jason Feb 17th 2010 8:14PM
I can't believe it's been over a year since the 5 Man Wrath competition started. What a long, strange trip it's been.
toxicrwk Feb 18th 2010 5:39AM
Eregos was voted winner because everybody went: Ohes Noes he is a dragon and can fly and shit...
Most of the people who voted for him neglected BOTH style and story, which is the 2 main parts that wow.com asks us to weigh upon.
>8< spider pride anyone?
Leelad Feb 18th 2010 9:17AM
Next season going back for some TBC bosses?
Just for me wanting to see ickriss choke keal with trinkets!
