Upper Deck comments on loss of WoW TCG license

This announcement comes at the heels of the Yu-Gi-Oh! counterfeiting controversy revealed a few short weeks ago. Upper Deck has been caught printing hundreds of thousands of counterfeit Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and managed to settle with Konami. We're not sure if the two are related but it may have had an impact on their agreements. Who knows?
There is no information right now as to which company will partner with Blizzard in regards to the WoW: TCG. I tried out the game myself at BlizzCon 2009, but I had recently gone back into Magic: the Gathering, and there is no way I can afford to get into another hobby at the moment.

I think about half the sales on Ebay are going to disappear now.

look for EBay card sales to disappear, soon to be followed by the birth of EBay sales of accounts that won the big love rocket drop, lol

If the TCG is handled the same way they treated the RPG books, then woe to the fans of the series.

I hope to see you guys apologize for the "great exaggeration" that other sites reported. :)

The situation changed. The TCG wasn't dead back in November.
Otherwise, you could predict that WoW is consolidating servers and not be wrong because eventually they will, even if it's years from now, which is clearly goofy.

3 months is awfully fast for something like this to change.

As someone stated before, Rawrcast broke this newz long ago...last November I believe. WoW should give credit where credit is due.

I guess I'm a little lost as to why it's considered counterfeit? Are they not the original creators of the Yu-Gi-Oh tcg?
mike Feb 17th 2010 8:18PM
No, Konami is.
xeiw Feb 17th 2010 8:23PM
ha, and this is something they thought they could get away with? whaaaaat
trefpoid Feb 17th 2010 8:38PM
this would never happen... in America!

Upper Deck's attitude can be summarized as: Screw the rules, I have money!
These are super special awesome references!

No they are not the original creators of the yu gi oh cards, that is konami. I remember those fake cards, they didn't even have the correct names of the monsters on em. Now no kid will ever have to suffer the pain of getting horrible knock-off cards when they expect the real thing

Did Blizzard just lose a cash cow?
Moonkinmaniac Feb 17th 2010 9:48PM
Not exactly. I'd bet that we'll see wow tcg turn into something like chaotic and have online gaming. Blizz has its own plans for it.

One thing I haven't seen addressed is how long you have to spend your UDP points and whether you'll still be able to collect your loot card in-game items once the partnership expires. I have a spare turtle mount as well as a hippogryph pet I haven't collected and around 10k UDP points however my main character is currently not well loved in Booty Bay...

If you have the code to be put in on the WOW site at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/misc/promotion.html You will be fine as Blizzard maintains that site and the code function of it.
If you have "points" that come from the points cards in the packs, cash em in for codes.
So in short, your turtle is safe, all the loot card codes are safe. But spend your points and get the items you want ASAP. You can even store the codes for use later.

I'm going to go out on a limb here
but with the loot cards I think we will be fine as it is really a WoW PROMO
and on the tcg forums Ry has given us a help thread of tips when we are trying to claim our loots and one part says
"Please be aware that once a code has been entered through Blizzard’s Promotional page and informed a customer of the Region and Realm that the code has been redeemed on, Upper Deck no longer has any power over the item. Upper Deck can not move or replace items inside Blizzard’s online game."
UD has no power over it once it has been claimed. I'm guessing all they can do if fix a jacked up loot card if you can't read it..
as for the points I was told that we still have some time to spend them in the store, so get them quick!! or pass them on over! ;P

My TCP points are stronger than your UDP points.
Daikaiju Feb 17th 2010 9:37PM
Tim raises a good point. I have a Soul Beacon card still unused. Do i need to "cash" it in ASAP?
