The Queue: I want a siege tank IRL
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Today's edition of The Queue is brought to you by my bruised ego after a half-dozen rounds of crushing defeats in StarCraft II. Seriously? Twenty mutalisks in my base while I'm still trying to figure out where my dragoon buddies went? I hate everyone and everything. Yes, even you. Especially you, Taylor. You know who you are.
Tethra asked...
"Any idea when we're going to get our Olympics pets, other than 'soon'?"
We've heard absolutely nothing about Olympics pets this year besides a (probably) goofy comment in the last Twitter dev chat. There's no guarantee we'll even get one, so I wouldn't hold my breath. If it comes, fantastic. If not, what can you do? The Spirit of Competition pet was rather specific to the country that was hosting the Olympics that year, it was a Chinese dragon. We've seen no Canadian equivalent. Of the pet, I mean. Not a Canadian dragon.
If there is a pet, it will be something very generic, but since we haven't seen one yet... I don't think one exists this year.
Beruza asked...
"Will we ever get to kill Mal'Ganis? He keeps running from us whenever we try to kill him! And I'm kinda confused... does he work for the Lich King? Or did he used to before Arthas took over?"
Since I am neither a seer nor a fortune teller, I do not know if we'll kill Mal'ganis. I can talk about his allegiances, however. Mal'ganis does not work for the Lich King, he works for the Burning Legion. The Lich King was originally the Legion's creation, placed on Azeroth to weaken the mortal races for a Legion invasion. The Lich King betrayed the Legion, only sticking with them long enough for them to guide a champion (Arthas) to him.
As soon as he had the power to pull it off, he betrayed the Burning Legion. Mal'ganis was a jailor of sorts to the Lich King once upon a time, but now he wants him dead.
Valt asked...
"Is there an addon, external program or macro that would turn my keyboard into a 'turbo' controller? You know in NES times those turbo controllers where you could press button and it would 'spam it' in reality. I ask this because I'm leveling a druid as a tank and my finger is feeling numb already from spamming swipe for hours in dungeon. And is using that against ToS?"
There are no addons that will do this, but there is hardware that will do it, as well as software. They are against the Terms of Service, so I won't be naming or linking to anything. The general rule is one keystroke per action. If you're multiboxing, it's one keystroke per action per account. So a turbo button is a no-go. If you push one button and it's executing multiple actions until you tell it to stop, that's against the rules.
One of my druid friends has actually bound Swipe not to a number key, but rather the scroll wheel on their mouse. Instead of slamming their finger on their '1' key all day long, they just roll the wheel while doing other things. It's an option you may want to consider.

I have cleave/devestate and heroic strike/devestate bound to up and down on my mouse wheel on my warrior and swipe and maul on my druid.
Lornicide Feb 18th 2010 3:41PM
I vote for an off-hand item instead.....How about a can of Molson?
Darthregis Feb 18th 2010 3:41PM
I think they should have 13 Canadian Olympic Pets. One for each province and territory. :P
Thodin Feb 18th 2010 3:42PM
My friend said it best: Canada is America's hat.
Holgar Feb 18th 2010 3:45PM
So that would make mexico america's...............
Sky Feb 18th 2010 4:00PM
Well let's see America has a trillion dollar debt, has lost two wars to third world countries and have the worst health care system in the developed world. How exactly is Canada, who has none of those problems, America's hat?
Frank Feb 18th 2010 4:01PM
except that america is canada's mexico.
Tim Feb 18th 2010 4:07PM
@Sky Canada is on top of America, and as they say "the hat makes the man" Being a hat isnt a bad thing. A professor at my school says that society as a whole went downhill when men stopped wearing hats.
Let me be the first to say "Thank you Canada (for Ryan Reynolds)"
Felix_NZ Feb 18th 2010 6:16PM
Mexico would be America's anorexic waistline silly.
Brazil would be the Hips...
Mir Feb 18th 2010 4:17PM
@ Sky
You're either too young to have ever needed health care, or just an ignorant fool. The truth is Canada has great healthcare if you're willing to wait for it, and America has great healthcare if you're able to pay for it. As long as you have a job, I'll pick America's version everytime.
Want a simple example? A few years ago my doctor told me it was a 6-12 month wait to get an MRI done...or I could drive to Buffalo and get it done Tuesday. So my choice was to stay in crutches for two years (MRI wait, then specialist wait, then wait for surgeon to have opening...) or have everything taken care of in less than a week for a few grand. Easy choice.

Holy crap people! On a standard map, Canada is on top of America. Hats go on top of a person's head. Figure out that it's a silly ass joke and shut the hell up about how much you hate eachother's countries.
Sky Feb 18th 2010 7:08PM
@Mir
I don't know what you're talking about. Canada's health care system has never failed me or anyone I know. And while it is true that there might be some wait time (the most I've heard is 3 months), I have never heard of anyone dying while on the 'waiting list'.
In your case, its either pay and get it now or wait and get it later. I would definitely take that over pay to get it now or don't get it at all.

>Well let's see America has a trillion dollar debt, has lost two wars to third world countries and have the worst health care system in the developed world.<
Trillion Dollar? I WISH! It increased by that much over the past year. But whether or not that is a problem is another matter, it's not wrong to be in debt, it's how much debt, and in terms of potential income the US isn't in dire straights.
Lost two wars to third world countries? I'm sorry, but you're confused. The war hasn't been lost to those countries, it's been lost to ourselves. Personally I think we lost by even going in there, and we can at least salvage a win by getting out, but there is no question of the US being defeated by any military force. Any loss was simply political, not one of warfare.
Worst health care system? Depends. The quality of care available is quite high. The US has some of the best hospitals in the world. The problem is the quality of coverage, which is scattershot.

I do the same scroll wheel thing for Heroic Strike (scroll up) and Cleave (scroll down). Just make CTRL or ALT + scroll wheel zoom if you still need it. Should save on medical bills for your wrist and hands later down the road :P

Questions:
Will Frost badges ever become the default badge ala the current triumph badges?
Will we see Strength based SLOW one handed DPS weapons in the future or will DW Frost DKs be stuck with Agility based weapons that have no AP value (come Cataclysm when direct AP will be removed from gear) to a STR based class?
Randomize Feb 18th 2010 7:31PM
Assuming tier 10 is the last tier of wrath, then no, frosts would never hold the same position that triumphs are now. Considering that Blizz has planned for ICC to be the last long raid in wrath (any further ones will be short and simple, like onyxia), frosts are just too valuable to allow tier 10 to be easily claimed.
The question about slow 1-handers is a mystery to me, but I would bet that enhance shamans and frost dks will share weapons, and that means that they will have some strength to boost shaman ap and dk ap.

Yes they will, in cata

I had a laptop with built in "turbo" on two of the keys. I used it during Vanilla when Autorogue still worked, in BC when all I had to do on my BM hunter was one-button macro my way to top 5 dps, and again in Wrath for a short time when my Unholy DK was a button and a macro for top dps. Talk about sleeping through progression.
Tristan Feb 18th 2010 4:04PM
I once had multiboxed on an extra account I had. The keystroke software I used acted as a "turbo" button. I liked just being able to hold down my space by are constantly jump.
This was a really random comment & I hope you enjoyed it.
