Patch 3.3.5: Assault on the Ruby Sanctum

A powerful war party of the Black Dragonflight, led by the fearsome Twilight dragon, Halion, have launched an assault upon the Ruby Sanctum beneath Wyrmrest Temple. By destroying the sanctum, the Black Dragonflight look to crush those that would stand in the way of their master's reemergence into Azeroth and to ultimately shatter the Wyrmrest Accord – the sacred bond that unites the dragonflights.
The battle that is to come will surely deal a crippling blow to the Red Dragonflight, however, it is up to you to stop this unprecedented offensive and defend the Ruby Sanctum. First you must face the assault of Halion's servants, Saviana Ragefire, Baltharus the Warborn, and General Zarithrian, before squaring off against Halion the Twilight Destroyer, a new and deadly force in this realm.
From the text, it sounds like we're getting four bosses in the Ruby Sanctum, unless they've taken a Northrend Beasts gauntlet-style approach to the encounters, or perhaps even another council-style battle. Later in the thread, Zarhym suggest that this may only be the beginning of Deathwing's attempts at shattering the Accord, so we may see the other Sanctums open before Cataclysm's launch.The Ruby Sanctum will feature 10- and 25-player content, Heroic difficulties and all-new rewards! Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to its release.

If you think about it, this could actually a pretty clever do-over on Blizzard's part with Wyrmrest Temple and those 4 sanctums that have sat idle since Wrath dropped. Or maybe it was part of the original plan, I'm sure they'll never tell. But either way, it's a good way of bridging the world we've become used to in Wrath to the things to come in Cataclysm. Rather than just a random new world event, it sort of slowly shifts our attention from where we've been for two years to the dragons and Deathwing's trouble-making. I don't imagine they'll do all 4 sanctums, but even 1 or 2 will provide a nice bridge into Cataclysm later this year. Plus I want more loot.

Jarvis, adding other instances to the Wyrmrest Temple was always part of the plan, at least as far back as the Obsidian Sanctum. Think of the tower as an analog to Caverns of Time, though perhaps less enduring.

C'mon new dragon mounts for everyone!
Wulfkin Feb 19th 2010 3:52PM
I've been thinking this ever since they mentioned a lead-in experience to Cataclysm. Those portals under Wyrmrest Temple are just begging to be explored. Perhaps the Black Dragonflight will launch an attack on the sanctuary of each Dragonflight in turn, raiding the lost magical treasures of the Blues, sabotaging the Greens so that Ysera can never wake up and creating a distraction for the Bronze's so that they cannot see the Cataclysm coming in the future.
It'll happen. *nods*

I don't want to protect the bronzes...I want to fight a confused bronze dragon with some buttnuts crazy time travel based attacks. Something that uses phasing to really mess with our heads during the fight.
Docp Feb 19th 2010 5:22PM
Like halfway through the fight he could send you back in time to say one of five key bosses from the past but smaller versions of them, so one week he could suddenly send you to the past and suddenly you're fighting Ragnaros and everyone's gear gets changed to look like T1, the next week it could be Kael'Thas and everyone is in T5. The bosses would have their signature moves but not all of them so it's a little easier.
Think Argent confessor from TOC5 but on a larger scale and as only one phase of perhaps a 3 phase fight.

Thumbs-upped (cutaia) simple because "buttnuts crazy" is hilarious.

It may be patch 3.3.5, but we've gone from 3.2(.0) to 3.2.2, 3.3(.0) to 3.3.2 and most notably, 3.0.3 to 3.0.8 The numbering system is internal for Blizz, not for us.
Matthew Feb 19th 2010 3:56PM
It sounds like a new Hyjal type instance, with waves and bosses
Methuus Feb 19th 2010 4:14PM
I hope that story wise the ease us in to Cataclysm a little more gracefully.
I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but *in game* we haven't had any indications yet that Deathwing is stirring. (Well, maybe those earthquakes in the city, but no NPC have talked about those or mentioned Deathwing.)
So I hope this "omg! Deathwing's forces are attacking the ruby sanctum!" isn't done quite that abruptly.

Gruuls 2.0 go go

@Spazmoose,
Thank you for correcting me, I was just as excited as Alex about the new wing.

@Cutaia
I like your idea. Even better if maybe the bronze dragon was Chromie and was only fighting us because the Infinite Flight was messing with him/her. So we get all these phased wibbly wobbly timey-wimey fight mechanics. Then we knock some sense into him/her and the real infinite villain appears, who once defeated drops an Infinite Drake mount.
Just as long as I never have to see Future Me again, for she is an idiot who thinks meleeing with a mace is better than chain heal.

Well, esplain all the weirdness out in Darkshore. You can't be safe on a boat anymore.....
David Feb 19th 2010 4:47PM
I don't know if this means anything, but it is now letting you copy your characters to the test realm on WoW website.
Joester Feb 19th 2010 7:15PM
Finally. Another Raid in Wyrmrest Temple. Wonder if it will drop ilvl 251 and 264 Gear and Frost Badges.....
RobertHMayfire Feb 19th 2010 6:36PM
