More Ruby Sanctum information: loot, lore, and more

- While the instance has a similar layout to the Obsidian Sanctum philosophically, the three sub-bosses (Saviana Ragefire, Baltharus the Warborn, and General Zarithrian) will each be own encounter all their own. The "drakes-up" functionality of Sartharion will not carry over into the Halion encounter.
- Heroic difficulty is likely to be toggled in the same way that heroic difficulties are handled in ICC (a UI toggle).
- Saviana, Baltharus, and Zarithrian will each drop an Emblem of Frost, but probably not special loot.
- Expect loot in the instance to be "about the same item level" as the Lich King items on their respective difficulties.
- The loot from Halion will be offset pieces as well as trinkets and other items "of that nature." So, basically, Sartharion loot.
- The instance is intended to be a prelude to Cataclysm and should provide some advancement for the new expansion's storyline before the 4.0 patch, drawing on Deathwing's desire to weaken the Wyrmrest Accord prior to his emergence from Deepholm.
- Arthas is still considered the final boss of the expansion -- this is merely a complementary raid, like Onyxia with ToC, with ties to Cataclysm.

Hopefully people will read this and not yell "OMG THEY'RE DOING A SUNWELL AGAIN!"

I wish we got another Isle of Quel'Danos with exciting dailies that progress the plot of the MMO, that was stupendous fun.

@hollow
Tol barad, the new WG come cataclysm, is also the new IoQD. That is, if you have won the territory!

Like I said before, is it only me that feels that this 3.3.3 and 3.3.5 stuff comes like an explosion? It's like HEY COOL PATCH 3.3.5- "HERE HAVE SOME INFORMATION GO ON PTR OH NEVERMIND WE'RE ALREADY DONE DL THE PATCH NAO HAVE FUN BUY OUR T-SHIRT BAI BAI" and I'm like...
... what the ---- just happened?
Hollow Leviathan Feb 19th 2010 7:36PM
My God this is all coming out in a rush! Did Ghostcrawler just turn the Publicity Dial on his diabolical crab console to 11?
Fletcher Feb 19th 2010 8:25PM
Upvoted for "diabolical crab console". :D

Despite your being downvoted, I do wonder about the non-raiding precludes to Cataclysm. Will 3.3.5 have some world event-y stuff alongside the Ruby Sanctum? Give us some Twilight and Black Dragons attacking SW and Orgrimmar from the sky or something, with High/Blood elf ranger reinforcements coming in to shoot them down. Something that gives the feeling of the Black Dragonflight making its move.
WAIT, I have a good idea. Change the blue drakes around Wyrmrest to Black drakes, and reword the daily so we're protecting the Temple from a black dragonflight assault. With the Ruby Sanctum description of the Blacks trying to dismantle the Accord, an assault on the Temple itself makes sense, with them ignoring the Holy Ground nature of the Temple in their efforts to bring down the accord. It'd be a great way to tweak existing quests to fit the upcoming Cataclysm's preludes.

Yeah, non-raiders got nothing in 3.3 at all. I remember this because there were no new 5-mans or anything like that. Yup, the game only ever caters to raiders and nothing but.
Tethra Feb 19th 2010 7:43PM
A prelude to Cataclsym, eh? Sounds cool and I can't wait to run it. I wonder if it'll have mount drops like Sarth?
jam Feb 19th 2010 7:50PM
Interesting, but I guess this means there won't be a troll raid WOTLK.. :-(
Cataclysm better have one, ZG and ZA are among my favorite instances.
Eregos ftw! Feb 19th 2010 9:49PM
I hate ZA, I hate ZG, I hate ZA, I hate ZG.
Did I mention I hate ZA and ZG?
They are the worst instances ever. Ever. Ever. Worst. Ever.

What about ZF?

Now I really hope this wont be loot pinata. There, I said it.
I hope it wont be. Most likely will be in some ways.

This would be a great time to fill in the big holes in ICC itemization, like the lack of a 25-man DPS gun. (It turns out one race of hunters has a racial that needs a 25-man gun; trolls are already covered with the 25-man bow.) Trinkets only would be a huge disappointment, especially considering that ICC has plenty of interesting trinkets already.
Valt Feb 19th 2010 9:18PM
And some bloody expertise tank plate.
Fletcher Feb 19th 2010 8:24PM
What flavour mount would you like? The red drake is a Wyrmrest rep reward, the black one is a Sarth drop ... I'm not sure that other flights would apply in this case.
I'm interested to know if "a similar layout to the Obsidian Sanctum philosophically" means that the extra bosses will be skippable. I'm not a fan of skipping bosses, so I'd actually like it if you had to kill the other bosses to get to Halion. Fight your way through the Black Dragonflight rearguard to get to their general at the front sort of thing.
Qot Feb 19th 2010 9:39PM
Burning drake.
Like a normal drake... Only on fire.
