New achievements on the 3.3.3 PTR revealed [Updated]

WARNING: This is pretty big news. If you'd like to avoid spoilers regarding the upcoming patch and pre-Cataclysm information, I totally would recommend against clicking the link. But if you're excited to see what's coming, click click click!
Gnomeregan may be recovered a heck of a lot sooner than expected. MMO-Champion just released the following information gleaned from the 3.3.3 PTR files, two new achievements:
- Gnomecoming King - You assisted High Tinker Mekkatorque and the Gnomeregan Exiles in the recapture of Gnomeregan's surface.
- Gnomecoming Queen - You assisted High Tinker Mekkatorque and the Gnomeregan Exiles in the recapture of Gnomeregan's surface.
That's right, the gnomes are going home! Or are they? While the achievements are in the files, it'll take gameplay on the PTR to see if the achievements are actually active in the new patch or not. The one note that brings a question to my mind is the text of the achievement -- it's the recapture of Gnomeregan's surface, leading me to believe that maybe Gnomeregan proper will be left for a future patch. Who knows?
In addition, Horde players have not been forgotten: It looks as though trolls may play a big part in the pre-Cataclysm events to come, according to some taxi nodes that have been uncovered:
- Durotar - ET - CC Prologue Troll Recruit End (#439)
- Durotar - ET - CC Prologue - Troll Battle End (#440)
- Durotar - ET - CC Prologue Troll Taxi Bat Start (#438)

"Are we waving signs around about Deathwing's imminent arrival, or are we just that annoyed about Garrosh's possible takeover?"
I lol'd hard

I would guess this will be part of the "world event" leading up to Cata. Maybe Deathwing breaks free, causes the earthquakes which in turn allow the Gnomes to retake part of Gnomer.

I'm happy about the gnomes and all... but i wonder what will happen with Tinker Town?
Puh Feb 19th 2010 11:38PM
Well, there's a dwarven district in SW, why not a Tinkertown in IF? =)
Mike Feb 19th 2010 10:58PM
Because it takes almost 3 expansions to figure out how to kill some troggs ;)
pookmaestro Feb 19th 2010 11:07PM
mind you that it also took 5 years and that the trogs are around level 30 ;)
devilsei Feb 19th 2010 11:22PM
Well, the radiation must of kick-started some evolutionary processes, in which those lvl 30 Elite troggs developed a hyper-active sexdrive that would make bunnies and rats pant and pass out from exhaustion, in order to counter-act the flow of characters 30+ entering and killing them all.

My pet theory is that it was the gnomes who, so curious about the scourge plague and intrigued by their Argent allies, turned to the light and discovered the cure by happenstance while researching how to counter the scourge, and in the process becoming the gnome priests.

You know what, we were busy. Gnomes lead very active and productive lives and we can't always be bothered to do things like clean up a huge mess or kill some level 30 troggs.
We tried a couple of times, but no one wanted to run us through or group up for the instance. Oh sure we tried to solo it at 80, but before we could get rolling raid time came up. Who wants old world achievements when you can get ilevel 271 fat loots.
Also, gnome porn doesn't shoot itself
RogueJedi86 Feb 20th 2010 2:13AM
At least the Gnomes' home wasn't taken by a single level 11 non-elite. In that regard, the gnomes are much more justified than the trolls. Even level 80's in iLevel 261 stuff hate to go to Gnomeregan. It ain't about the troggs' levels. And again, Echo Isles were being squatted by a level 11 non-elite, so what's the trolls' excuse?

>Also, gnome porn doesn't shoot itself
But we do tend to shoot ourselves when we are forced to think about it.

Daco Feb 19th 2010 11:43PM
FOR PONY!!
Sorry.
lemur Feb 20th 2010 12:27PM
SQUEEEEEEE!
I mean, for Gnomeragan! For science, progress and things that explode!
Sedirex Feb 19th 2010 10:59PM
Well it's good Blizz learned their lesson from AQ about the whole "funneling huge numbers of players into small areas" thing.
Juneau Feb 20th 2010 2:09PM
I'm pretty sure there will be a LOT of phasing.
Sedirex Feb 20th 2010 2:45PM
You clearly have no idea how phasing works. The server still has to deal with every mob, PC, and object in every phase, it just doesn't send the info about half of them to the clients.
bdew Feb 21st 2010 2:49AM
No YOU don't know how phasing works.
The problem with lots of people in one place is that the load on the server grows exponentially. For example:
Lets say there's 10 players in a room, each of them generates some event, so the server has to send 10 events to 10 clients for a total of 100 events.
Now put 100 players in same room... the server now has to send 100 events to 100 clients for a total of 10,000 events.
10 as much players generate 100x server load.
Now for phasing if you split those 100 players into 10 "phases" you only need to send 10 events to 10 clients in each "phase"... which sums to 1000 events, an order of magnitude less than without phasing.
