Although I agree with you that Nevermelting Ice Crystal is more of an upgrade for a shadow priest or the other insignificant class, I have to also agree with Archmage Pants that a mage does not HAVE to pass the trinket to you. Just like Archmage Pants said, it provides a nice damage bonus to a fire mage's Living Bomb if it is used before the LB cast.
That said, I think most Arcane mages who knows the game and/or have better trinkets will pass it to you if you asked nicely since Arcane benefits marginally from the on-use crit bonus. However, expecting people to pass the trinket that might be an upgrade without explaining to them why seems a little unreasonable. After all, this is the price we pay to play an online multiplayer game.
Just be glad to know that if there is a warlock in your group, then he/she will DEFINITELY roll on that trinket. Let us unite and hate warlocks together!
