Breakfast topic: Your biggest regret?

There are some things in World of Warcraft I wish I could have done differently. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like had I rolled a different class other than a priest. There are bosses that I wish I had killed before they became irrelevant. Alas, it all boils down to time that I wish I had. As both a GM and a player, it is difficult to foresee the results of your actions and you never know what the correct choice is. Even when killing bosses and healing my raider group, I've made crucially wrong decisions. And it sucks when I realize a global cooldown spent on a Pain Suppression instead of Power Word: Shield would've saved a wipe.
Have you ever experienced a moment or made a decision that you've regretted since?

Being part of the Alliance and not picking the Horde

It makes me slightly sad to see this comment so highly rated, I love the Alliance. It's a shame that the Alliance has such a bad reputation among the WoW community.

I never regretted that I left my SSC-TK raiding night elf druid (back in BC) to reroll a bloodelf warlock on a brand new server. I was sad leaving her, but finally Blizz realized they want more money and I could transfer her to be a proud tauren druid. I was glad to pay for them :D
I regret only not buying all the frozen orbs until they were 6g.

I'd pick a server in my time zone, if I could go back.

Alliance doesn't want you anymore. GTFO

.....The fateful day I was at Target, looked through the game section for my brand new laptop.....and said "Hey, what's this game?". And now....now I'm camping in the middle of a Gamestop, with employees continually nagging be bout something like "Sir, Cataclysm isn't coming out yet" or "Where are you getting all this food sir" and even ".....you rolled Alliance?"

@jealouspirate: This.
I'm a through-and-through die-hard alliance fan and I fully expect players to be absolute cretins that I play with, if you're main is a human retribution paladin, arguably one of the most common classes in all the game, you're bound to come up against a lot of stick for your race/class choice.
But I play Alliance because I love their lore and want to kick some Horde butt, I recently took a couple of days break from WoW because I was getting tired of the groundhog day which had become doing random heroics (just because it's easier now, doesn't make it any more fun) each day which is all I have time for, so I took on trying some free MMO games, WonderKings, DDO online, but neither of them could provide me with the statisfaction of being part of the Alliance, it just makes me proud to be part of the ideal, so much so I forget about the players who make up the player base (and in which case most of them aren't half bad!).

Ironically, I regret picking Horde instead of Alliance.
Well, actualy I don't regret it, since I want to know both sides of the story (lore is one of my main interests in WoW), but I like to play more Alliance than Horde (though in a PvP realm where Horde outnumbers Alliance 3 to 1 is not a good idea)

@Eternauta,
I am currently saving time to switch one of my alts to Horde so I can see the Grizzly Hills quest chain, the Wrath Gate quest chain, and Sylvanas in FoS etc., then switch back. BTW, if anyone has any suggestions for other must-see Horde lore, I would welcome them.

@aduyaa
If you're really interested in the horde lore and are jumping factions just to check it out. I'd suggest doing a series of quests in Nagrand. Eventually you get a quest chain that you're trying to make Garrosh not pity himself anymore. It takes you through the beginning of the Orcish clans there (Frostwolf I believe - the one that Thrall's father was the leader of.) It is time consuming due to all the quests you do to unlock it. However, at the end you do bring Thrall back to his home for just a few minutes. It's pretty cool I think.
Also - I don't know how much time you're going to play on the Horde BUT. If you are able to. PUG if anything ICC up to Saurfang. The intro going into ICC for horde is pretty cool. Along with the dialog that goes on between Saurfang and his son. If you've done it as Alliance it's one thing. On the horde side - it can be alittle tear jerker.

I regret all the times I forced myself to try raiding, for the only thing I got out of them was the realization that I am just not a raider, and yet I kept trying to fit into that mold, for that was the only thing "left" for me to do once I out-geared heroics. That is time I will never get back, time that only made me realize that the very things I found boring or frustrating were the bread and butter of raiding (meaning running raids repeatedly to gear up and facing progression bosses, respectively).
Cuddles Feb 23rd 2010 8:49AM
Same place I am at /sigh
peagle Feb 23rd 2010 9:36AM
That sounds like a very rigid old raiding structure. These days when pugs can raid 25m without difficulty, I'm unsure why you're not able to raid casually and enjoy the experience.
Killik Feb 23rd 2010 9:39AM
Out of interest, what difference do you see between raiding and heroics?
Gamer am I Feb 23rd 2010 10:07AM
@Peagie: I know that 25 people can PUG raids these days, but when runs are successful, I never enjoy them more than once. The second time I ran a successful Naxx PuG, I was already a bit bored because I had done all of the encounters before, and that made me more irritable every time someone made even a little mistake. I can't imagine what it would be like to have run it the multiple times once necessary to gear up for Ulduar. As such, no matter whether a run is successful or not, I will likely not enjoy it.
@Killik: Heroics are fast, so I can do them without a serious investment of time, which, considering how my schedule is, is a good thing. I just can't invest the hours it takes to beat a raid, which is why I have only been able to do single-encounter raids like Onyxia and Sartharion. Heroics also place less pressure on the player, since the encounters are simpler and there is less to keep track of, whereas I always feel more of that pressure in a raid setting, and while some people thrive on that pressure, I don't.
