Breakfast topic: Your biggest regret?

There are some things in World of Warcraft I wish I could have done differently. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like had I rolled a different class other than a priest. There are bosses that I wish I had killed before they became irrelevant. Alas, it all boils down to time that I wish I had. As both a GM and a player, it is difficult to foresee the results of your actions and you never know what the correct choice is. Even when killing bosses and healing my raider group, I've made crucially wrong decisions. And it sucks when I realize a global cooldown spent on a Pain Suppression instead of Power Word: Shield would've saved a wipe.
Have you ever experienced a moment or made a decision that you've regretted since?

Gamer -
I'm genuinely curious... what do you do in game? Because to me everything in WoW has an element of repetitiveness. Quests are*, heroics are, even PvP is to a degree. And all of the PvE content is, really. I get that raids fights are scripted so there' s more deja vu tthere, but if repetitiveness bored you...
OH hold it, that's why I don't play as much anymore. Amusingly, except to raid. It's the people in the raid that bring me back.
*There's no real difference between "bring me 20 Undamage Murloc Fins" at level 19 and "Bring me 20 Magantaur Feet" at 73).

@Clevins: Yes, all of the things in the game are repetitive, but some repetitivity is more bearable than other repetitivity. I find leveling, fishing, and doing dailies to be a relaxing form of repetition, and even heroics fit that description to an extent, but raiding (and PvP) is stressful. Given the choice between relaxing repetivity and stressful repetivity, I'd take the relaxing one any day.
I actually mostly level alts now because dailies and heroics have become too repetitive for me to enjoy them any more. Leveling a character, however, is different, because that repetition is rewarded with new moves and talents that make the experience different as you go through it. Those new moves and talents break up the repetition, whereas dailies and heroics are the same thing every day without any progressive rewards. Sure I get money and gear, but those rewards don't tangibly change the game-play in any real way. Fishing isn't any less repetitive, but since I haven't gotten bored of it yet because I haven't done it nearly as much as I have done dailies and heroics, I still fish on my main. And that's why *I* don't play as much any more.

I am feeling that same pain Gamer. /pat /pat
Raiding isn't for everyone guys - you don't have to try and convince them it can be a pain in the hiney. :)

You're dead right about the time commitment. I guess I hadn't really thought about the pressure side of things, as I raid with a really nice, laid-back bunch of people who aren't looking for world firsts :)

I regret not getting a ZA bear mount :****(
Letharginator Feb 23rd 2010 8:38AM
Yeah, this is probably it for me too. I've got a proto-drake, I'm ok not getting the ironbound and what not, but the other bears really don't compare to voodoo bear.
Expo Feb 23rd 2010 8:41AM
This. Missing the mount in our fixed group by one week ... oh so close.
Rapskallion Feb 23rd 2010 9:34AM
I'm with ya. We had a farm team getting them and... wouldn't you know... once people got their bear they stopped showing up to help farm it. Can't do bear runs with nine people, so we brought new folks in. I lost the roll on that darn bear more then a dozen times.

I regret not taking the time to look up what a PvP server was, four years ago.
Sinnh Feb 23rd 2010 8:39AM
oh my god THIS. i started on a pvp server cause that's where friends played (friends that end up ditching the game relatively quickly). looking back now, i can't believe i endured that for 72 levels. i finally switched to a normal realm when WotLK came out and i couldn't move 5 minutes in the new zones without getting ganked. i didn't pay to transfer the character so i rerolled from scratch. lost so much progress because of it. and, again, looking back, i can't believe i didn't switch sooner.
along those lines, i regret that when i rerolled i picked up leatherworking instead of engineering, which my original toon had. LW is such a waste of time, and i regret not having the cool engineering pets on my now-main. i got LW at 447 so i'll keep it...plus engineering is hard to level :(

This. This, this, this. I seriously regret allowing a friend who had played before to talk me into a PvP server "because it gives it that little extra edge of excitement." That "little extra edge" has been a source of serious irritation and frustration, especially when going through the mid-levels in high-traffic zones (like Stranglethorn) where 80s piloted by bored 13-year-olds seem to have no interest in anything in the game any longer except for ganking people 30-40 levels lower than them.

I actually regret NOT rolling on a PvP server.
I was scared of PvP for a long time, and only started trying it when my warlock had hit 80 (also a regret). Needless to say, that didn't go very well. I sucked. So, I decided to roll a small warlock on a PvP realm to learn from the ground up. And it turns out... I LOVED it. I wasn't so bad at PvP after all, and walking around with the chance of always being attacked gave me a huge thrill. Especially after my first 'world' PvP kill, when a rogue 6 levels higher decided to gank me and I beat him, to my own amazement :) I really love that feeling of 'anyone can attack you, at any time..!'
Though I must say that my PvP realm seems relatively nice and I have very, very rarely experienced any ganking. I stay away from lowbies myself as well, I don't see the point of killing them. But ok ok... I might throw some fears and curses of exhaustion at them for a minute and /grin at them ;)
That being said, I also made my little warlock horde because I didn't want to go through all the alliance started quests again. I always got a little irritated when in threads like this people would say 'I wish I would have rolled horde lol'. But now.. I can say that I am really a hordie at heart, and the only reason my main and other alts stay alliance is that I know too many nice people on alliance side.

This. PvP servers are great. i love the excitement and I love the feeling of not knowing what the other person is going to do. like if a high level of the opposite factions helps you when you pulled too many in a mob, then not knowing if running is appropriate and he will kill you, or if you should risk it and try to be friendly. It makes interesting little scenes and keeps me on my toes. Its a nice break from the monotony of questing.
Then i get ganked.

My husband and I started WoW at the same time with no idea what the differences were between servers. He saw 'PvP' and immediately assumed that all of the other servers were campaign modes without other players. So, that was that. I rolled one of every class, they're all well in their 50s now, and I regret it so, so very much.
Blizzard should have a feature on the create character page for PvP servers that has an ENORMOUS pop up saying 'You will be ruthlessly ganked, camped, and generally have a godawful time. You will spend less time playing WoW and more time doing dishes while waiting for the ganker to get bored. You will have zero fun on this server and see that some humans have no empathy. If you're the type to take your frustration out on an innocent someone that never did anything to you, I suppose you can suffer through 80 levels and be a jerk with the rest of them.'
Spankus Feb 23rd 2010 8:12AM
I wish I had rolled a human for my main - would've saved SO much time grinding rep.
Steve Torpey Feb 23rd 2010 8:49AM
I was going to say the same thing...
But then, I wouldn't be a dwarf, and Frostheim would have to have words with me...
IvanP91 Feb 23rd 2010 8:12AM
For me, starting to play WoW earlier, I mean I started in early 2009. I missed all the fun of TBC and raiding that. And due to play time constrains i only yesturday hit 70, not even 80.
I've always regretted that.
KT Feb 25th 2010 12:15AM
This exactly. My main just hit 71 and while I'm having a fun time enjoying the ride and discovering new things for myself, I always wish I could have discovered it earlier so I could have been doing stuff like holiday bosses, Argent Tournament, and whatever other stuff 80s are doing and also had the opportunity to experience certain content when you could still get groups for it. At the same time, I don't want to hurry my first character to 80 because I am enjoying the leveling and questing experience for what it is.
Thank goodness for the LFD tool, I can now do instances that I thought I would have to wait until I could solo - I have that, at least.
