The patch 3.3.3 PTR has a bunch of cool pre-Cataclysm content added to it that was datamined by MMO-Champion. Massive spoiler alert, so don't click on that link or follow us after the break if you want to avoid spoilers!
We covered some of the achievements and abilities being added before, but the latest update has a bunch of new information in it. Specifically, there are a whole whack of quests being added that relate to the Alliance retaking of Gnomeregan and the Horde retaking of Echo Isles! Also, both Alliance and Horde will be able to do a Twilight's Hammer cult quest line. Click through for an exhaustive list. Also to note: they traced out where the new flight paths for these events will take you. Here's the Alliance map, and here's the Horde map.
It looks like the Alliance are going to get to:
- Drop complex radiation detection equipment from a flying mount
- Learn to use Mechano-Tanks
- Retake the surface of Gnomeregan
- Launch eavesdropping frog spies from a flying mount
- Enlist the help of some sort of super-tiger
- Retake Echo Isles

"Unreachable places" will become a thing of the past, with the next expansion. They are redesigning the old world maps to allow for flight capability.

Actually if you count the monument in Dalaran's center as a sign of Arthas already being dead then it's more like, "Well, now that that dirty business is over with we can finally get down to some back-burner projects. Hm, trolls need those islands, eh? Hey you, strong adventurer! I need you to motivate people to start this minor war since they are way too relaxed from the whole... scourge... thing"

Oh wow... just reading about the Lady of da Tigers thing. New abilities? We've had shapeshifting trolls for a long time in instances as enemies, but it sure sounds like here we're going to have players taking tiger form or something like that for this quest. Prelude to the trollish version of druidism in Cataclysm?

My thoughts too. Remember the gnomes and trolls are all getting new classes come Cataclysm. We're already seeing minor quests involveing some of the other races. This content can in fact be lore lead ins to the new class/race combos, on top of being new daily quest hubs for 80s, and new content for high level players leading into Cataclysm. It's also content to "bring us back home" from Northrend, where we can better experience the world event content leading up to Cataclysm.

And Echo Isles, too, I guess.
I've always wondered why the Gnomes didn't just go and make their own cities. What's stopping them? Low level elites and a crazy guy in a mechsuit?

Actually if you read the snippets from MMO Champion they explain that the gnomes have been waiting for the radiation to subside. Nuclear decay can go on for an annoyingly long time...

Isn't 5 years actually a surprisingly short time for radiation? Aren't parts of Chernobyl still uninhabitable due to radiation and that happened over 20 years ago.

This makes me so so so so so so so so so happy! Vol'Jin is getting cooler armor and we are getting our own city?!?! I will wear everybit of troll themed gear and do this quest.
Do Gnomes have fanboys like Trolls? I mostly play horde.

This is prologue? You mean.. trolls and gnomes are causing cataclysm someway?
I never trusted those damn gnomes!
.. ok maybe not but that would be bizarre. Deathwing going mad from retaking gnomeragan or appearing IN gnomeragen going all "You are not prepared, this city shall be mine"... kinda like lich king appeared in various places in north..ok I stop now.

it does seem that bliz has some sort of frog fetish, tho. they have us kissing frogs, confusing frogs with shiny blades, and now using frogs to help take back the echo isles.
what next?
"Brave Dwarf, before I craft your lvl265 elite weapon, I need ingredients. Please gather 20 frog droppings for me."
at least, that would also be consistent with their excrement quest fetish, too...

Not only does this sound awesome, but I have to say that "Gnomecoming King/Queen" is the best damn title ever. EVER.
