As with GearScore...
Hate the abuser, not the addon.

If the addon is giving them incorrect, possibly very incorrect numbers in an authoritative manner that leads them to believe they are absolutely correct, then that addon IS a problem.

Finnicks is spot on. Recount provides useful information. People that kick people for not providing XYZ DPS are jerks. People that blame recount for people being jerks are misguided.

Recount works off your combat logs and as such is restricted to what is coming into them.
If you find it heavily off. Run this in game:
/console SET CombatLogRangeParty "150"
/console SET CombatLogRangePartyPet "150"
/console SET CombatLogRangeFriendlyPlayers "150"
/console SET CombatLogRangeFriendlyPlayersPets "150"
/console SET CombatLogRangeHostilePlayers "150"
/console SET CombatLogRangeHostilePlayersPets "150"
/console SET CombatLogRangeCreature "150"

I'll continue to hate on GearScore, thankyouverymuch. It only looks at item level, sometimes armor type (if you configured it for such). This is a problem with the addon itself, not the people who use it (or easily fake their scores).
GearScore doesn't factor in your enchants. Mages, put Blade Ward on your swords!
It doesn't factor in your gems. Hunters, gem for spellpower!
It doesn't factor in trinkets. Everyone, grab an ilvl 264 PVP trinket!
It doesn't account for awesome trinkets with low ilvls. Screw you, rogues, who are using DM Card: Greatness!
It doesn't account for PVP gear! Quick, run to VoA and pick up as much of the 264 gear (that is only suitable for 232 content)!
GearScore is just a terrible addon for what it's supposed to do, as it doesn't properly rate your gear. You can't pin this bad design on the people who use it.
You know what addon does rate gear more properly? ElitistGroup: http://www.wow.com/2010/02/11/addon-spotlight-elitist-group/

Actually you're incorrect. I use BOTH EG and GS.
if you type /gs , gear score WILL tell you if someone is in PVP gear, fi their gear is wrong for their spec (healer in ret gear) will show you all their equipped items, has a greater weighting for the greatness card and will show you that toon's experience in raids.
I love EG but GS does many of the things you say it doesn't do.

Ignorant people like you, Avan, are what's keeping the GearScore debacle going.
Look back into it. GearScore has been doing all those things for weeks. It penalizes your score if you have stats on your gear that don't benefit your spec/role, INCLUDING GEMS AND ENCHANTS.
People need to stop spewing that old argument.

Regarding GS, I don't use it because it comes out with a wildly different numbering system then wow-heroes, which is the de facto website for checking a person's gear. A really good GS on wowheroes might be... oh lets say 2800, where-as on GS it might be 4500. If they could get their GS numbers to match and be the same, then I would love to use it as a quick "check on this player" sort of app. You know, just to get a quick overview of where they are at in instances they can likely tackle and so forth... not to have it be the end all tool on if we should invite playerX to our raid or not.
I'm sure many will disagree with me on this, but that is my opinion on the matter.
