Breakfast Topic: This is my quest
A little musical interlude for your morning, courtesy of Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren. On with the topic: quests, of course! With the upcoming expansion, there are going to be a lot of changes happening all through Azeroth, both to the way the world looks, and to the quest givers and quests that we've all grown so familiar with. Some quests will stay, some will change, and some will simply go away, never to be completed again.
There are two quests I recommend that people do now, just in case they vanish into the nether when Cataclysm hits. One is Alliance, and one is Horde, in the interests of equality:
Alliance:
Sully Balloo's Letter: This one is entirely too easy for Alliance players to miss, as there's no indicator on the minimap that a quest even exists. If you go to the bridge over the Thandol Span and jump off into the water below, you'll find the skeletal corpse of a dwarf crushed by a boulder. In his hand is a note with a gear icon if you mouse over it -- clicking it gives you a Waterlogged Envelope that will start the quest. While the chain that starts is interesting enough, it's the letter itself that's noteworthy -- be sure to read it before you turn it in. For history buffs, yes, this is a reference to Sullivan Ballou, the Major from the Civil War.
Horde:
Test of Faith: This quest is pretty straightforward and simple, but players sometimes miss it both because it's in Thousand Needles, and because it's so far off the beaten path in Thousand Needles. You get it from Dorn Plainstrider, who's off in a little cave in the side of the cliffs just northwest of Freewind Post. Dorn gives you this quest, it's really quite simple: He teleports you to the top of one of Thousand Needles peaks. The quest objective? Jump off. I won't say what happens, but it's a long way down.
So here's my question for you Breakfast Topic types: If you were asked to recommend just one quest to someone, one that really stuck out in your mind, what would it be?

Wrath of the Blue Flight.
Is it hard? No. Is it filled with Lore? No. Does it make you laugh like a madman after it happens? Hell yes.

They'd better keep Take Down Tethyr! (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11198) That's one of my favorite old-world quests, especially since it's one of the few where you can solo an elite with relative ease.

A remember the first time I flew past this quest boss and thought I have to kill it!
When I got around to doing it, fortunately it still had the knockback on his water spray, without the knockback now it doesn't feel quite as epic fighting this guy.

It's not old, or easy to miss, but the Crusader Bridenbrad questline stood out for me as something special.
Also, for fans of WC3, the "Lazy Peons" quest in Durotar never fails to make me laugh.

"Me not that kind of orc!"
Yeah, well, me is. Rawr.
An old-world quest that I always try to do on characters? Well, Horde-side, there is "The Lady's Necklace" in Ghostlands, the short chain to get it back to Sylvanas, after which she treats you to "The Lament of the Highborne."

Absolutely second this comment. I thought that I was tough, that crying over a video game was for babies... I got through Sven Jorgen and Morgan Ladimore, Pamela Redpath and even Mosswalker Village saddened, yet without a physical tear... but dangit, when I finished with Crusader Bridenbrad's questline, my cheeks were waterlogged and it was all I could do to choke back an audible sob.
I don't know why it affected me so much when so many other emotional quests haven't (at least not to that degree), but IMHO anyone who skips Crusader Bridenbrad's quests in Icecrown is absolutely cheating themselves.

Zug zug! :D
I howled the first time I did that quest, because peons might have been my very favorite unit in the game just because of the noises they made.

Finding Mankrik's wife. Everyone has gotta do it at least once.
Metatron Feb 24th 2010 10:16AM
Everyone should have done it before the advent of Questhelper/Built-in game guide...
loreaddict Feb 24th 2010 2:45PM
I see your "Mankrik's Wife", and raise you the "Sweet Amber" chain
Possum Feb 24th 2010 4:13PM
I like to find Mankriks wife too, especially that I've now read You Awaken in Razor Hill http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=20677329926&sid=1 if you haven't read that, go do it now.

The Tirion Fordring quests in Eastern Plaguelands outside the Terrorweb Tunnel. The old quest line from Blood Tinged Skies to Find Myranda-which will have you transform into a member of the Scarlet Crusade to help bring Tirion's son out of Hearthglen. I won't say how it ends so as not to spoil it, but be sure to hang around for the entire story.
Also, The Battle of Darrowshire was awesome, and I highly recommend for the players who missed a lot of the vanilla content.
For Love Eternal that you pick up from the NE on the docks in Darkshore-is still one of the saddest quests in the game, IMO. As is the Little Pamela quests in EPL.
shard Feb 24th 2010 10:51AM
Yeah, the entire Darrowshire chain, especially when you are of correct level, is amazing :D
Mr.C Feb 24th 2010 8:25AM
i'm usually a horde player, but whenever i've levelled an alli toon i've always done sully baloo's letter.
it's made of pure win
as for quests that people may miss, but i have always done
chicken escorts :)
Blacksheep Feb 24th 2010 10:29AM
I am definitely finding this Sully Ballou quest chain when I get home, never heard of it till now. I am a native Rhode Islander and the real Sullivan Ballou was from my state, I've always known about his story, how touching he is mentioned in a game as big and far away as WoW is from us.
Vahan Feb 24th 2010 11:24AM
@BlackSheep
W00t a fellow Rhodey!!
Blacksheep Feb 24th 2010 12:01PM
Hey Vahan! Good to see another Rhody WoW player! I'm sure everyone reading this is saying "what's with those nuts" but finding other Rhode Islanders out there in the world (or the net) is always fun for us lol. It's like we are members of a small, exclusive club or something lol.

Ahab Wheathoof[Horde only] in Mulgore gives a quest to find his dog Kyle.
The quest is fun. But you need to listen to all the voice emotes of the quest giver.
Ahabs voice emotes are the voice of Ezra Chatterton, a 10 year old WoW player who passed away in October 2008. He toured Blizz as part of a Make-a-wish event. Tigole created the quest in his honor.
While it is just a simple quest. I always complete it on all of my Horde toons to honor the boy. Sappy, yes. But, as my wife says, I'm a soft touch.
