Breakfast Topic: This is my quest
A little musical interlude for your morning, courtesy of Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren. On with the topic: quests, of course! With the upcoming expansion, there are going to be a lot of changes happening all through Azeroth, both to the way the world looks, and to the quest givers and quests that we've all grown so familiar with. Some quests will stay, some will change, and some will simply go away, never to be completed again.
There are two quests I recommend that people do now, just in case they vanish into the nether when Cataclysm hits. One is Alliance, and one is Horde, in the interests of equality:
Alliance:
Sully Balloo's Letter: This one is entirely too easy for Alliance players to miss, as there's no indicator on the minimap that a quest even exists. If you go to the bridge over the Thandol Span and jump off into the water below, you'll find the skeletal corpse of a dwarf crushed by a boulder. In his hand is a note with a gear icon if you mouse over it -- clicking it gives you a Waterlogged Envelope that will start the quest. While the chain that starts is interesting enough, it's the letter itself that's noteworthy -- be sure to read it before you turn it in. For history buffs, yes, this is a reference to Sullivan Ballou, the Major from the Civil War.
Horde:
Test of Faith: This quest is pretty straightforward and simple, but players sometimes miss it both because it's in Thousand Needles, and because it's so far off the beaten path in Thousand Needles. You get it from Dorn Plainstrider, who's off in a little cave in the side of the cliffs just northwest of Freewind Post. Dorn gives you this quest, it's really quite simple: He teleports you to the top of one of Thousand Needles peaks. The quest objective? Jump off. I won't say what happens, but it's a long way down.
So here's my question for you Breakfast Topic types: If you were asked to recommend just one quest to someone, one that really stuck out in your mind, what would it be?

I know the lyrics don't say "quest" in them, but as soon as I saw the title I thought:
I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was.
To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause...
I will travel across the land, searching far and wide,
Each Pokemon to understand, the power that's inside.
Pokemon...gotta catch 'em all!!
It's you and me...
I know it's my destiny
Pokemon...Oh..you're my best friend,
in a world we must defend.
Pokemon...Gotta catch 'em all!!
A heart so true--Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me and I'll teach you!
Pokemon!
Gotta Catch 'Em All!
Gotta Catch 'Em All!
POKE-KE-MON!

Tooga's Quest in Tanaris. I always take it with both mains and alts (even if I change servers), and I always want to abandon it halfway across the desert when the turtles "are we there yet?" and "I got sand between my toes" starts wearing me down.
It's an endurance test. If you can escort a turtle, you can take on anything.
Then again, I don't have kids, so maybe I'm just not used to the constant repetition of silly questions :)

I freaking love that turtle. If I could pick one NPC to survive the Cataclysm, it'd be him.
Of course his wife is a pain in the bum....

I love this quest for a couple reasons. He's funny, but the main thing is that he follows you.
It's the only escort quest I can think of where you set the course. Like in Zangermarsh where you finally get an escort-escape where the damn person runs instead of walking.

The Drakkensryd is absolutely awesome, one quest I always look forward to doing.
The dialogue between Thrall and Saurfang the Elder after the retaking of Undercity always makes me feel a little sad :-(
The Turtle escort in Tannaris, nothing special except for the barracking he gets from his wife when you get him home :-)

Hero of the Mag'Har.
Extra goodness if you played through the WC3 campaign. Whenever someone turns it in, I rush over to the Nesingwary camp so I can ride alongside Thrall and the Horde guards.

I look forward to The Missing Diplomat every time.

I always have to save Mr. Floppy. NO wolves will be hurting him on my watch.

There is a book in Thousand Needles with an Alliance quest. It was the one I needed for Kalimdor Loremaster.
That's why I remember it.

The Pamela Redpath quests in Eastern Plaguelands. I suspect lots of people skip over them now with Outland so close at that level, but they're worth doing.
I'm not a particular emotional person, and I get a little giggly when I hear people talk about their emotional attachment to plotlines in WoW, but helping that little girl's ghost find her doll (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5149) and connect with her aunt and uncle honestly made me a little weapy, and even thought I've done it on a dozen characters now, I still get a little choked up at the thought of this little girl waiting for everyone to come back home. :-(

If it makes you feel, better she doesn't understand that she's dead, probably doesn't even know / remember how she died. And you can obviously bring the happy ending about with setting right what was once made wrong, reuniting the family even after death. Many people say the questline is sad but in my opinion it is one of the most heartwarming questlines in the game.

While doing the Valentines day quests and hitting Culling of Stratholme, I decided to look around. Pamela is alive and well upstairs in the inn, along with Joseph and her entire family. I actually sat there for a moment, happy to see her alive (even if it was a Caverns of Time flashback) and couldn't resist dropping a quick /hug before I left.
And yes, I still have the tea in my bank.
Along with Sully Balloo's Letter. I /salute his wife whenever I run past in Ironforge.
And yes, I occasionally stop and /kneel at Bridenbrad's grave.
And if I could remember his resting place, I'd probably stop and pay respects to Stalvan, too.
Thanks Blizz, I really hope you continue to put things like this in. "Kill 20 of (creature) and come back" gets the job done, but is forgotten once the loot's in my bag.

If you love the Darrowshire quest, you have to watch Cranius' Darrowshire video.

I guarantee you'll get choked up.

Its all about the 40 man raids on hogger

The questline involving Morgan Ladimore in Duskwood. Easily one of the best quests I've ever done. I'd recommend it to any Alliance player without hesitation.

Kriegle Feb 24th 2010 5:52PM
This. I was reminded of this recently when the Breakfast Topic about bank-hoarding came up. I've still got "The Story of Morgan Ladimore" and his sword "Acherus".
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=227
Looking back I'm not sure why this affected me so much. It's sort of a poorly designed quest that has you hoofing it back and forth across Duskwood (though now with level 20 mounts it's much more enjoyable). Still, something about the writing and overall forlorn feeling of Duskwood gave this quest's ending a bittersweet satisfaction I've yet to feel again.

The Legend of Stalvan.
If you are Alliance, I rest my case. If you are Horde....then you have the option to roll alliance and go on this quest chain.
Aruhgulah Feb 26th 2010 11:12PM
I *love* the Sully Balloo questline -- the only time I've ever gotten teary-eyed over WoW, I swear. I second the writer here, if you haven't done it, DO IT.
I'm still mourning the loss of the Onyxia attunement for alli -- it was a rite of passage to walk the walk thru Stormwind and take on the Dragon In The Throneroom, it meant that your toon was now "grown up". The game lacks any kind of similar rite of passage for high levels, and that's a shame.
There's quite of few of the Plagueland quests that I recommend; most folks have already mentioned them. They gave a true epic, yet this-is-how-the-war-affects-the-people feel to the game -- the find-the-doll quests, saving the spirits, Blightcaller. I also really like the Defias questline in Westfall; I hope that Blizz DOESN'T do away with the lowbie questline and VC instance when they make VC a heroic. It's the rite of passage for low levels on alli side.

tower of althalaxx
Vibram Feb 24th 2010 10:45AM
Tower of Althalaxx.. that brings back some memories. Trying to solo your way through that Tower was fun but also really expensive. That quest may be why I changed to Horde actually.
