Patch 3.3.3 PTR: Companion pet and mount updates

Mounts
The Celestial Steed has been added into the game and it looks to be an all around mount that can function is a ground mount in the old world and a flying mount in Outland or Northrend. There are no screenshots of it yet, but my guess is that it's a horse with wings that could double as a constellation. Check out the picture above for an idea.
Tailors also get another Flying Carpet to create. The Frosty Flying Carpet is purely a flying mount. It's only usable in Outland and Northrend (until Cataclysm.) In order to ride it, the tailor needs to have at least 425 tailoring.
Companion Pets
The Celestial Dragon has been added to the game files, but we're not yet sure where it comes from. It certainly looks pretty though. I'd speculate that it could be a seasonal boss drop, or maybe it is the next reward pet after hitting the Lil' Game Hunter achievement (the 100 pet mark, perhaps). Kudos to MMO-Champion for the shot!
Engineers, you may wish to stock up on the mats required to build a Pet Bombling and Lil' Smoky companion pets. Why? They won't be bind on pickup in the next patch.

Maybe Celetial Dragon is just like last year's Spirit of Competition, for the Olympics.
wutsconflag Feb 24th 2010 7:07PM
I was thinking the same thing, actually.

Possibly, but the patch isnt due for a few more weeks in my guess and this pet really has nothing to do with the winter Olympics, but time will tell though. Looks awesome anyway!
Henrah Feb 24th 2010 7:10PM
This was my first reaction.
It has the same model as the Olympic pet, and the stars possibly being in reference to the opening ceromony of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
It may seem like a long shot, but I wouldn't say it wasn't possible.

It says "Essence of Competition" on mmo champion if you click on it. So I am thinking its an Olympic pet
Mike Feb 24th 2010 7:26PM
@Creese5704: If you click the MMO Champion Steed link, it says the value is "Headless Horseman Mount"... So I don't know if the pet's 'value' indicator is really much to go on.
Mattimus Feb 24th 2010 7:43PM
Yeah, it only makes sense as an Olympic pet because the Summer Olympics were in China, which, if you ask me, is a pretty poor reason.

"Maybe Celetial Dragon is just like LAST YEAR'S Spirit of Competition, for the Olympics."
The Spirit of Competition was from the Beijing Summer Olympics, which was held in 2008, not 2009.

@Mike it could very well be an updated mount for headless horseman or a new mount that drops.
@Mattimus not really, they could have did another dragon since they are cooler than making a pet moose or a moose mount.
Either way regardless of how you get the pet I really hope its a reward of some kind or a purchase pet for the store and not a TCG pet that we will never get to see since they quit production of the TCG

Yeah I noticed that when I reread, but was too lazy to correct myself. So weird to think my Warlock's been max lvl that long, so I thought it was last year.
Kredia Feb 24th 2010 8:00PM
@ mike I would assume by the Headless Horsemen value it means it is a mount that functions in the same way. As in it changes its type depending on location.

@Creese I disagree about the moose being less cool than the celestial dragon. Put it in a Wassamatta U shirt and I'd have it out all the time. Of course, if you want a more violent pet, we could always go with a wolverine which makes a distinct *snikt* sound every now and then. :)

"@Mattimus not really, they could have did another dragon since they are cooler than making a pet moose or a moose mount."
That statement is entirely subjective. I, for one, would LOVE a Mini-Moose. In fact, Mini-Moose was with me the whoooole time. Yep.

If that pet's for the olympics, well, I was hoping for something better.
But I guess it'll make a nice constellation prize.

Complete LFD with 100 random people get a Perky Pug.
In 3.3.3 there is a new random battleground tool, so I'm thinking something like complete 50/win 25 random battlegrounds get a reskinned "Spirit of Competition" pet achievement (and title?)
Moomoo Feb 24th 2010 7:09PM
Oh my god. I hope that Celestial Dragon is either the 100 Pet Award or the 2010 Spirit of Competition. *Is absolutely in love* What's weird to me is I had a dream about a very similar beast in netherstorm a few nights ago. I'd be crushed if it were TCG loot.
Mattimus Feb 24th 2010 7:42PM
With the TCG discontinued at present, I doubt there's anything currently being made for loot cards.
Darksky Feb 24th 2010 7:10PM
Considering that, at the opening ceremonies for the Winter Games in Vancouver, there were "spirit animals" that appeared translucent with stars inside of them representing constellations, and that the dragon is the exact same 3D model as the Spirit of Competition from the last Olympics, I'm going to guess this is the 2010 Winter Olympics version of the Spirit of Competition, too.
Interesting about the mount, though... maybe a new addition to the event? Olympic event boss, perchance? /intrigued
Vaeku Feb 24th 2010 7:33PM
But Ghostcrawler promised me a pony... er, moose!
Darksky Feb 24th 2010 7:41PM
@Vaeku:
Maybe this is a Seamoose... the distant cousin of the Seahorse? ;)
