Patch 3.3.3 PTR: Companion pet and mount updates

Mounts
The Celestial Steed has been added into the game and it looks to be an all around mount that can function is a ground mount in the old world and a flying mount in Outland or Northrend. There are no screenshots of it yet, but my guess is that it's a horse with wings that could double as a constellation. Check out the picture above for an idea.
Tailors also get another Flying Carpet to create. The Frosty Flying Carpet is purely a flying mount. It's only usable in Outland and Northrend (until Cataclysm.) In order to ride it, the tailor needs to have at least 425 tailoring.
Companion Pets
The Celestial Dragon has been added to the game files, but we're not yet sure where it comes from. It certainly looks pretty though. I'd speculate that it could be a seasonal boss drop, or maybe it is the next reward pet after hitting the Lil' Game Hunter achievement (the 100 pet mark, perhaps). Kudos to MMO-Champion for the shot!
Engineers, you may wish to stock up on the mats required to build a Pet Bombling and Lil' Smoky companion pets. Why? They won't be bind on pickup in the next patch.

Maybe (hopefully not) the dragon or steed are another in game pet/mount that Blizzard plan to sell from the website?
Considering the popularity of transparent items in game now, they could make an initial killing....

imo... these are going to be some new items that may drop from Algalon... which could possibly mean one thing... he's going to become accessible to everyone in a patch in the maybe near future... O.o

I am thinking something for the lunar festival, only event that doesn't have any real rewards (besides things like pirate day).

I'm betting the celestial pet and mount are rewards from Algalon-10 and -25, respectively, which Blizzard has to have realized that not many people have tried, even with ICC gear.
Of course, I wish it was an Olympic event, even if it starts late. (It wouldn't be the first holiday to run at a weird time.)

I am thinking something for lunar festival. Only event without real rewards.

This feels like the $25,000 Pyramid...
clue - Celestial Steed
clue - Celestial Dragon
answer - Things Algalon drops!
While that would have made sense a while back, I know this isn't it where they'll come from. Sounds like the dragon is clearly an Olympic thing. Mount is anyone's guess.

I'm not to fussed about getting mounts, but I just recently hit 75 pets, trying to get more, and am thrilled to see there will be still more!

Judging from the fact most of the other mounts like this have been world event, that there's a pet and mount with similar names and styles, and that they just said they were fidgeting with the world event boss dynamics in 3.3.3...
What do these three things have in common?

If it's for Canada, why not do a Beaver, they could adjust the gopher model....

because of trade spam

Could the the Cata CE pet maybe?
I'm pretty sure Frosty was datamined months before it it was realised it was the CE pet.

So... Why not a new engineer mount too? We're still riding the BC version.
Gabbers Feb 25th 2010 10:12AM
It could be a heirloom mount?

Interesting. Blizzard recently changed this page (like within a few days ago).
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/events/spiritofcompetition/
It used to say "Every two years, the Spirits of Competition grow..." and now it just says "the Spirits of Competition grow especially..."
The dates used to be August 8 - August 24, and now no date is listed.
Maybe it is just fixing this to make it clear it it not happening again, or to throw us off the trail. Interesting none the less.

Deadly. Off. Topic. Feb 25th 2010 11:10AM
They could always be using the same model - like they always do for retooling - but it could simply be for a more mundane use. Maybe a rep grind or something similar.

I did not know there are mounts that can fly in outland/northrend but are still summonable as ground mounts in the old world...most flying mounts can walk but are not summonable in the old world. Is this new?
SpaceGoatPriest Feb 25th 2010 1:25PM
There are a few "fully" scalable mounts. The Headless Horseman mount is the first one that comes to mind. If you summon it in Dalaran (or old world) is a ground mount, but if you are on the "flight pad" of Dalaran (or anywhere you can fly) it will be a "flying mount". The only thing is (I think, I don't have one to know for sure) if you are flying and enter a no-fly zone, it does not scale down without being "re-summoned".

I'm guessing that it's a pet and mount drop somehow connect to the Lunar Festival Holiday. Those two rewards were strangely absent in my opinion when compared what you can get from other holiday events. The name "celestial" and using a dragon as a pet both fit with the holiday's theme as well.

A new flying Carpet? Really I allready crafted the epic flying carpet! So what now I can make another one thats a different color? Woo hoo nothing like getting something new ...oh wait its the same thing ???
