Zarhym -- Battleground experience in patch 3.3.3There is a change going into patch 3.3.3 that will double the amount of Honor gained for completing objectives in Battlegrounds. Because experience gains directly correlate to the amount of Honor gained for completing such objectives, the change would double the amount of experience gained. While we do want to double the Honor gained to make obtaining PvP gear through Battlegrounds more on par with the rate at which players can obtain PvE gear via the Dungeon Finder, we are happy with the current experience gain rate and do not want it to change. For this reason we're decreasing the experience awarded by 50%. The net result is the same.
As an example, here are some made up numbers for completing a Battleground objective:
Current - 300 Honor, 500 experience
Increase Honor gains by 100% in 3.3.3 - 600 Honor, 1000 experience
Decrease experience gains by 50% in 3.3.3 - 600 Honor, 500 experience

The industrious gnomes and goblins at World of Warcraft: Official Magazine are currently working on issue two. One of its regular features is "Battlegrounds Back to Basics" - this time around covering Warsong Gulch.
As part of that feature, we're looking for hints and tips from WSG veterans. Is that you? If so, please feel free to post your favorite Warsong Gulch one-line strategies, tactics and tricks that help give you the winning edge. They can either be team oriented, or even class specific. The best suggestions will be incorporated into the feature as quotes - and of course your character will be fully credited. Remember – these should be straightforward one-liners – we're not looking for long paragraphs packed with intricate details.
Thanks in advance to all!

We occasionally see requests for us to open pre-TBC realms, or classic realms if you prefer. Lately there have also been requests for pre-WotLK realms, and I am sure that once the next expansion pack is released there will be requests for pre-Cataclysm realms as well. We have answered these requests quite a few times now saying that we have no plans to open such realms, and this is still the case today.
We have no plans to open classic realms or limited expansion content realms, and you should not expect to see the opening of such realms with the launch of Cataclysm either.
We realize that some of you feel that the classic game was more fun than the current game, and as a result would like to revel in nostalgia; the developers however prefer to keep the game moving forward as they want the game to continuously evolve and progress.

Before when the normal flight speed was 60%, for me I think it did feel mandatory as it was a little painful to move that slowly. Now with the normal speed being 150%, I don't feel it's something of extremely high priority when leveling new characters, but something I always end up getting.
I mean 130-160% (depending on your flyer), increase is pretty significant.

We have made no announcements about BlizzCon at this point in time on either the date or the location. We'll let you know when there is something more to share.

Wryxian -- Have you ever let someone die in WoW?When I was more active on my healing priest this kind of question did cross my mind a few times and yeah sometimes a person's attitude towards me or others in the group influenced the quality of the healing I provided them. I'm not sure I can outright say I let someone die though. But I certainly might have left someone with low health just long enough so that they might reconsider their attitude (well, if they're smart enough to realise what's going on and wise enough to learn from it.)

Wow.
I have respect Wryxian.
Recipients of my annoyance rarely survive.
Possum Feb 26th 2010 11:43PM
I'm with Wryxian. Leave the dps who can't control his aggro or pulls before the tank at 30% and he suddenly becomes a whole lot more cautious. Outright letting someone die just slows you down.
Terethall Feb 27th 2010 5:27AM
Someone else does their job poorly.
In response, I'm going to do my job poorly.
The sad part is that the DPS who is an idiot and pulling mobs and standing in fire isn't paying attention to the fact that his health bar is at 30%, and if he is, he's likely not realizing that it's his (indirect) fault. Immature players, if they DO realize this, will likely become petulant in response to your not healing them, as opposed to becoming more cautious. Failing to perform the best at your job doesn't do anything but make you feel more powerful (and make you look like an ass).
Possum Feb 27th 2010 6:47AM
Terethall your experiences will of course be different from mine and generally I will always heal everybody as best I can, but it's something I've found that situationally works and makes the runs smoother.
As I pointed out I try not to hinder the group out of pride but repeatedly healing the over aggroing dps takes away from my ability to heal the tank and normal group damage, increases downtime and the possibility of a wipe.
Why should I waste my heals on that dps when it could lead to the tank dying or another dps who has made a single mistake or become a victim of encounter mechanics die? If that tactic makes them more cautious hooray, if not *shrug* i'll put them on ignore and continue as best I can, I won't have to group with them again. But if I can make the run easier on myself as well as others, I'll totally do it.
Sleutel Feb 27th 2010 12:23PM
@Terethall:
IME, death is a very good instructor. On my tank, VERY rarely, I've let people die. The only recent example I can think of is from probably at least six months ago. A DPS kept running ahead to pull more mobs, and after telling him repeatedly to stop it without effect, I decided to stop peeling the mobs back off him. He pulled a pack, and I sat back and watched him. As did everyone else. He, not surprisingly, died. After the run back to join us (he didn't get a rez, either--the healer was just as sick of him as I was), you bet your ass he toed the line.

I just wanted to say that, while the RTS games have their own Community Managers, the only blues to post on the StarCraft II Beta US forums have been WoW ones... While not a surprise, apparently the WoW blues are spending a fair amount of time playing StarCraft II as well dealing with the WoW community :P
DuceWild Feb 27th 2010 1:00AM
we are happy with the current experience gain rate and do not want it to change. For this reason we're decreasing the experience awarded by 50%.
??????????
Possum Feb 27th 2010 1:02AM
Because your exp from HK will go up, thereby remaining the same (hopefully)
Darasen Feb 27th 2010 8:24AM
Look at it this way, with made up numbers. Imagine in a battle ground 10 Honour equals 10 experience. Killing one member (honourable kill) of the opposite faction awards 10 Honour. Thus one Honourable kill equals 10 Honour and 10 experience. Blizzard decides to double the Honour gain in battlegrounds so that now one honourable kill gives 20 honour. Since we already said 10 Honour = 10 Exp. each honourable kill would also give 20 Exp. now.
Blizzard changes the formula so that 10 Honour = 5 Exp.
So now An honourable kill grants 20 Honour and 10 Exp. Honour doubles and Exp. stays the same.

In regards to the "Vaneras -- Vanilla WoW realms" post, it would be interesting to have such a realm *IF* they had it truly vanilla (or even pre-patch 3.0 TBC, for that matter) . That means:
1) No Stormwind port - yes, that means a boat from Darkshore to Menethil Harbor and hoofing it through the Wetlands, Dun Morogh and into Ironforge - I always felt like that was a sort of a "right of passage", really.
2) Mounts at 40. Let's actually use that travel form or Aspect of the Cheetah :-)
3) Things in the 1-5 starting area that will attack you and can kill you - like all of the freaking imps while you're trying to get that medallion of the Burning Blade cultist.
4) Starting with food and water, but no money.
5) Heirloom items? What are those?
6) Molten Core. 'Nuff said.
7) ...
...well, I could go on (for a long time, really), and perhaps I am being just a bit nostalgic, but because I started out in Vanilla, all of these changes they've made to rush everyone through to endgame content has become a bit off-putting at times.
So, how about it, everyone? What do YOU remember about Vanilla/pre-3.0 TBC that you kinda miss or would like to see a server/servers dedicated to?
Calebe Feb 27th 2010 1:36AM
Actually mate tbh - Blizzard have done a really good job regarding starting zones. Having played from Beta, i hadnt seen any old content properly for like 4 years - always power leveling not paying attention, always having loads of gold on all the character, the biggest bag and more recently all the boa stuff it was a chore to level to end game.
However, due to moving house and internet problems i froze my main account until everything was up and running, and after 2 weeks of no wow i decided to test the net - so i got a trial account. I was shot back 5 years but the difference was it was easier some things i spent half of beta working out was pointed out to me, and with a lack of people now a days starting (so for any new players would be a nightmare and pretty damn boring) Blizzard still gives you everything but a little quicker ready for level 68.
Ok i know what you mean about mounts and stuff but with the end being at 80 now and almost 300% more stuff it makes sense. It needs to be about new players as well as the oldies. Yes I would love ZG back, but also i want my shiny new T10. Blizz is right its important to move forward as well
zweitblom Feb 27th 2010 2:37AM
It's 'rite of passage', by the way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rite_of_passage
Tokkar Feb 27th 2010 3:43AM
@zweitblom: DOH!!! You're correct, I know better as well, I'm exhausted, and I think beer and sleep are in order. Beer first.
Kudos for chalking one up on a fellow Grammar Nazi! :-)
Tokkar Feb 27th 2010 5:43AM
@Calebe: I have a friend who is just over 30 on her new character and had never played before. She is still learning the ropes, and found the starting area to be a good primer, as it were, so I can see where you are coming from. I guess I'm just a bit jaded in that I dealt with several toons (I'm an altoholic in many respects, but primarily trying to find out what class/race combo worked better for me at that time) and as a result, dealt with a more hostile environment in the starting zones, so I was a bit taken aback when I saw the neutrals instead of the hostiles upon starting a new toon to level up with my friend.
Seeing it through her eyes, though, I can understand what you were writing about there, but I still feel that they made it too easy. Meh...
T10, huh? Um...yeah...about that? Um...I still have some greens...hey, what can I say? I don't do battlegrounds. That may change, though...been thinking about it...did a raid the other day (my first) and it was freakin' fun...who knows? There's hope for this old, decrepit orc yet! :-)
thebitterfig Feb 27th 2010 11:27AM
pretty much exactly. you can cap your experience at level 60 these days, plus find a guild which does oldschool raiding. what would be a great change, however, would be the addition of achievements for old-world raids based on doing them at-level in at-level gear. kind of like the achievements for doing ulduar 10 in only ulduar 10 (not 25) gear. that way, those who go through the work of using pre-bc gear and level 60s can get honest credit for it, rather than the exact same credit a fully-geared 80 who rofls through stuff.
let's not forget that one of the major reasons doing level 60 and 70 content are a lot of fun these days is that the mechanics have been cleaned up and fixed extensively. i mean, a druid could realistically do something other than heal a level 60 raid in the post 3.0 world.
Alja Feb 27th 2010 2:59AM
sooo glad they are working on that second issue - since I STILL haven't gotten the first issue - even though I've contacted the magazine customer service people four different times about it, how something gets "lost in the mail" this many times is beyond comprehension. Has anyone else had issues with getting it or haven't received it at all?
Morius Feb 27th 2010 5:46AM
Adam,
Is it just me, or does the 'Wryxian -- Have you ever let someone die in WoW?' source button just link back to wow.com? Haven't noticed anybody else comment on this!
