The Daily Quest: It's all about the heals

Today we're talking healers. You know healers, don't you? The players who tend to stand in the back of a group and do simply terrible DPS? Damage meters aside, if you're not a healer, keeping your healer happy should rank high on yout to-do list, because who else out there is going to pull you from the brink of death over and over again? So while the non-healers in the audience are out buying candy and flowers for the healer in your life, the healers in the audience are going to sit back and look at some recent thoughts on healing from around the net.
- Blessing of Kings discusses healer hubris.
- Holypaladin.net talks about the Flash of Light build for holdydins.
- Tree Bark Jacket covers healing for Sindragosa -- some of it's druid-specfic, but some of it will be useful to anyone attempting Sindragosa.
- Wugan on Flow discusses healing for Professor Putricide for resto shamans. (If you're attempting the Professor and having trouble, you may be interested in reading Raid Rx and Ready Check on the same subject.)
- The Physician's Log covers solo-healing Sarh +3 as a paladin.
- Holyform offers some tips for discipline priests on Festergut.

I highly suggest you remove the holypaladin.net article on the FoL build. It is full of broken arguments and false information. Not only that, but it will spread these bad ideas throughout the populace. There's enough bad information out there, we don't need it spread.

Such as?
Kia Feb 26th 2010 10:57AM
Um...like...what? Seems pretty spot on to me.

I think, just like the author of the article, that it's a good and bad idea haha. The author basically states that over and over again. It's very situational. Being able to go back and forth from HL and FoL as your filler can make you the highest HPS healer everywhere you go. It's "triage" like the author says, and knowing who to heal and when and with what for the maximum output.

This guy is dead on. The article is BAD. The advice is gives is terrible. Anybody who looks at that and thinks its good advice either doesn't play a Holy Pally or plays one terribly.
Actually, that entire site is awful. The writer is clueless.

Please post the URL to the article you wrote and clear things up with clear and concise arguments full of demonstrateable facts? Because I'd totally love to see you do better.

There's spectacularly hilarious flame war over Rankwatch in that Blessing of Kings link. I haven't seen someone nerd rage that badly in a long time.
Possum Feb 26th 2010 2:07AM
I know, apparently if you use rankwatch you're scum, the reason Wow sucks and probably eat babies and puppies for breakfast. It's the most hilarious thing I've read all week!

I zoned into a LFD group on my lesser geared druid. Someone had just ragequit over being rankwatch spammed, and I was the replacement. I laughed and told them I thought it was a good mod, usually helps people who don't realise they haven't trained something, or that their bars haven't updated.
We started pulling, and suddenly I got the whisper: You are using Rank 1 Wild Growth!
:P

I love rankwatch and have it installed but really when you're leveling up and running places like maraudon you should really shut it off. People level so fast these days that it's not unreasonble that they are chain queuing for instances and haven't visited a trainer for a level or two. At those levels it's not going to hurt anything to cast a lower ranked version of a spell that you could be eligible for.

They appear to have removed the last of the guy's posts. I'm heartbroken... he was off to such a good start!
My facist tendencies and desire to look down in scorn upon the unworthy masses have been revealed to me tonight.
Seedcake Feb 26th 2010 4:07AM
SERIOUSLY. That dude is completely out of control. o.O
Hollow Leviathan Feb 26th 2010 5:15AM
I use RankWatch and love it, but it doesn't make sense to me to have it whisper anyone who isn't level capped. I still have it tell me, so that I can decide if I should tell the boomkin that they're using rank 2 motw...
Long story short, I will always treasure when the priest in good gear who could not keep me up defiantly whispered me, "I highly doubt rank 1 Inner Fire would give me 315 armor." and then ragequit. Seriously lady? You are kind of my hero, only the opposite.
Keith Feb 26th 2010 8:01AM
I use RankWatch, although I have auto-whispers turned off. I manually whisper them during a lull in the instance. My WAG is 30% ignore me, 30% thank me, 20% tell me I'm wrong, and 20% tell me I'm wrong and then sheepishly whisper me a few minutes later to thank me. The only time I've gotten abuse was when RankWatch was forgetting its config for some reason and it auto-whispered.
When I whisper, I now usually phrase it like "Just in case you didn't know, you're downranking . I'd check your UI if I were you, because sometimes it doesn't get updated due to a bug in dual-specs", and people seem to get less defensive that way.
Steven_pub Feb 26th 2010 10:09AM
I don't mind rank watch when it's set to whisper. I have on a few occasions, however, encountered someone spamming it to the party ... both clearly intentionally because I asked them to switch to whisper and they said the group has the right to know.
I treat those people the same way I treat gear score Nazis in beginner heroics ... they go or I go.
Keeva Feb 26th 2010 2:13AM
Hey hey hey, I resent that.. I hurricane with the best of them. Damage done might be terrible, but my DPS is great!
dapriest Feb 26th 2010 2:19AM
The Sindragosa link is broken. You can still get to the site if you edit out the additional characters, but it might be confusing for those like me up at the wee hours of the night. :P
Wugan Feb 26th 2010 2:49AM
As a new blogger just getting started, the link is much appreciated.
I removed RankWatch a week or so ago. I'd 80% of people were genuinely thankful and appreciative that you just helped them improve their dps/tanking/healing by visiting the trainer. 18% just ignored you, and probably didn't visit the trainer afterwards. 2% would get irate for no clear reason and start raging at you and your horrible mod, demanding that you turn it off. To me, that 2% just wasn't worth the hassle, which is sad, given how many nice people are playing with low ranks due to a bug in the game.
Possum Feb 26th 2010 3:01AM
I'm glad blizzard is removing ranks in cat, I was healing dungeons with a flash heal 3 ranks out of date and didn't even realise it because I always went to the trainer while in shadow spec. >.< I wish someone had rank watched me. While I probably would have been kinda mortified that I was that stupid at least I wouldn't have been sitting there wondering why my flash heal healed so little of the tanks health.

Anyone know of any blogs out there that talk about Warcraft from a disabled persons perspective? A few quick searches on Google didn't turn up any blogs dedicated to that angle, just a few stories on this site and some others.
