Western Plaguelands not so plagued anymore in Cataclysm

Twitter developer chatQ. With the Lich King defeated, in Cataclysm, will the Plaguelands be green and beautiful again?
A. Western Plaguelands will finally be free of the plague in Cataclysm. It's hard for the Scourge to survive without their beloved Lich King. I guess this means we need to rename the zone?

Just awesome. This is the kind of change I was hoping for in Cataclysm, to be honest -- not just earthquakes and floods, but actual passage of time and logical storyline progression post-defeat of Lordaeron's traitor prince. Wonder what this means for Scholomance or Andorhal!
But, also, what does it mean for the name? I guess Eastern Plaguelands will likely become just The Plaguelands, but what will WPL become? East Lordaeron? New Lordaeron? Or, given the zone's proximity to the zone that's basically Azeroth's armpit, they could just go with the one that makes the most sense: Pennsylvania.

I'd live in Sylvania.
Cephas Feb 26th 2010 9:40PM
Latin nerd swooping in here to tell you that "Sylvania" basically just means "Forest" (Pennsylvania, for example, means Penn's Forest). I really hope they don't name it that, because then every time I zone into Sylvania, I'll think, "Great, thanks for telling me that I'm in a forest. I couldn't have figured that out from, you know, those trees?"
Al Feb 26th 2010 10:39PM
It's my experience that a lot of people can not tell the forest from the trees.

Good call on the Pennsylvania reference, but Ohio is the armpit hellhole, not New Jersey.
Worst state by a large margin.
Quark1020 Feb 26th 2010 10:51PM
Well, people normally have two armpits, so.....

So all those cauldron repeatable quests I did actually worked?
leo810 Feb 26th 2010 9:23PM
i wonder what will happen with scholomance. You really don't need a school for the dead anymore.
Cephas Feb 26th 2010 9:31PM
Scholomance is actually a school for necromancers, and I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think that necromancers should still be able to raise the dead even without the Lich King. I mean, Horde and Alliance Death Knights do it all the time, right? I would expect those crazy cult of the damned guys to keep doing their thing down there. They might even be driven to get a little more on the offensive to avenge their fallen leader, or something.

I am really looking forward to seeing all the changes to this zone. Out of the two, WPL and EPL, WPL was more fun. But I do wonder what it'll be like with the scourage now gone! Does it mean the zones enviroment will look more..lively? And for Scholomance and Andorhal they could become active towns? Andorhal and Scholomance I can see having quite a nice bit of quest-hub action! I also wonder what mobs will now inhabit this zone...as for the name, New Lordarean sounds really cool! =)

Considering the history of Scholomance (the School of Necromancy), I see it probably remaining as an instance, maybe being retuned for lower level players.
If Andorhal is rebuilt, it could certainly make for a nice quest hub.

He *could* be referring to Caer Darrow, the town outside of Scholomance....
Cephas Feb 26th 2010 9:27PM
Isn't that a screenshot of Eastern Plaguelands?
Transit Feb 26th 2010 9:34PM
Rats you posted it before me. Yeah I don't think thats in Western Plaugelands.
zweitblom Feb 27th 2010 2:42AM
It is. 'East side, west side, it doesn't matter to me...'
Riari Feb 27th 2010 2:56AM
Looks like Caer Darrow. The ghosts were the only way I could tell that from the rest of Eastern Plaguelands apart.
elfennau Feb 27th 2010 11:47AM
Looks like the island Scholomance is on, maybe?
Cyanea Feb 26th 2010 9:30PM
I can't imagine it's gonna be all flowers and perfume over there. From what I'm getting, Cataclysm is gonna be happening pretty soon after the Fall of the Lich King. With Arthas dead, and there a longish period before *spoiler* takes up the mantle, I can totally see some questlines involving pockets of Scourge resistance who pulled a Forsaken and pulled free of the mainstream Scourge that need to be taken care of. Maybe Scholo can exist as one of those dungeons where some Scourgelord has taken control and is plotting to become the next Lich King, etc etc.
slartibart Feb 26th 2010 10:15PM
I was under the impression that the mantle was picked up almost immediately after Arthas died.

Well if they go with PA then there's going to have to be a Puxatony, which only means one thing: GIANT RAVENOUS GROUND HOGS!

I imagine that it might be a zone revolving around helping the Orcs and Tauren of the Earthen Ring revitalize the landscape, since this image seems to suggest it will still be Horde-aligned, and I don't see the Forsaken having any interest in growing flowers.
Maybe some Twilight Hammer cultists could have stormed Scholomance looking for something and replaced the Cult of the Damned?
