Dance Studio still "on the list," say developers
Still, the question comes up from time to time, and it came up again during the recent Twitter developer chat. The developers answered that it's still on the list of things to do, so it appears it hasn't been completely abandoned. They also mentioned that they always start expansions with more than they can do and prioritize from there.
This, of course, brings up another question all on its own: What can we expect to be late in Cataclysm? Should the developers really announce things they don't think they'll have time to implement? Of course, it's part and parcel of the MMO game that features are pushed back a patch or two, but after over a year, there might be a time limit on how long you can be expected to wait. Still, I'm all for more character customization, so I'm glad it's not completely abandoned. With any luck, maybe we'll finally see it before patch 5.0.

Holy crap, you must be new to the game then.
"New Dances" was one of the advertised features of the expansion. While it was in beta, it was nowhere to be seen. Months go by, it still isn't in beta. Then the expansion came out, there was nothing about them. Blizzard said "We are still working on them."
The name "Dance Studio" was slipped by a Blizzard GM, they kept saying they were working on them.
Some of the coding is already in the game.
Basically, it will let you change your race's dance, and save a customized dance.

Again, a fail reply. Meant for izzy b up there.
So sick of reply fails. If someone is replying while you are replying, it screws up your reply.
Jay Feb 28th 2010 5:10PM
A failed rely to a failed reply?
It's not hard. Just look at the original post and click that reply and your reply will reply under their reply.
Al Feb 28th 2010 6:38PM
Not always, so you have to make sure replies show the reply line. Or you'll have to reply to your reply.
"Yo dawg, I herd you like replying, so now you can reply to your reply about how it didn't reply."

Lol WTF with video?

I believe the feature was actually advertised as a new feature on the box of Wrath. Technically, isn't that false advertising?
I don't have my box lying around, or I would check to be sure. If so, I smell a bunch of Warlock lawyers using this to file a class action lawsuit.
John Vilsack Feb 28th 2010 2:45PM
The answer is no, it wasn't. I just checked.
Way to have a comment system that you can't delete things.
Khremloc Feb 28th 2010 2:49PM
It was advertised in the first trailer at Blizzcon.
Artificial Feb 28th 2010 3:23PM
Two reasons why it cannot be the basis of any lawsuit. First, it was never an advertised feature. In order to claim false advertising, the claim has to be made in an advertisement. A developer interview is not an advertisement, nor is even a trailer at BlizzCon. Second, it was not stated that it would be in the game on release. Many features of WoW appear in patches, and until Blizzard moves on to Cataclysm, they have not, in fact, broken any promises about what features will appear in WotLK, since they haven't finished adding features to WotLK. You said say, "You said you'd have this feature", to which they can respond, "We will!" If you respond, "But you don't have it *now*," they can simply say, "we never said we'd have it *now*."
John Vilsack Feb 28th 2010 4:09PM
@Artificial
I said "if" it was on the box, which would indicate is was used to advertise.
Then I said it was not.
Therefore, I'm not sure why you are clarifying what I made clear.
Gamer am I Feb 28th 2010 2:48PM
I am perfectly fine with dancing like Michael Jackson for now. In fact, the bear dance is really all I'll ever need.
Superthrust Feb 28th 2010 3:28PM
Seriously, New dances are cool. But come on...they can do a damn DANCE STUDIO but can't give us player housing or anything? Hell, why not make it something similar to second life where we can invite others in or something?
Like, a new profession to make furniture or something? Or maybe trophies or something to drop off mobs and you can display them?
AND WHERE THE HELL IS MY MOOSE!?
Snuzzle Feb 28th 2010 5:52PM
Yes, because giving people new dances won't make the cities ghost towns. Like player housing has a very real chance to.
Superthrust Feb 28th 2010 5:55PM
make the housing public or something...like one district. I'd rather not lag while trying to run to the bank and AH cause of all the people afking in dal, sw or Ironlag.
Plus, what IS the dance studio for? Just new dances? (i.e. Barber shop?) or a "create your own" dance?
I would support it and more bliz ideas if they had the chance to make us even more unique...cause in the end, almost everyone looks the same.
Armor coloring.
craftable costumes (or something)
Craftable Novelty items (or something of the type. See: Furniture for housing)
more "unique" looks?
I dunno...its all just farfetched i guess.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that this feature is going to be scrapped. It's been getting close to 2 (!) years since they announced this feature, it never made it in, and has taken a back seat to everything else released during Wratch. Truth be told, they probably see new character models and animation as more of a priority than choosing your own dances. If this feature ever sees the light of day, we might be well into or past Cataclysm.
TL:DR - Don't hold your breath.
Al Feb 28th 2010 3:57PM
"New dances" is the new "Everyone in the Valley of Heroes will appear in-game."
So we'll still be asking about it two expansions later.
RetPallyJil Feb 28th 2010 4:12PM
"Hinted at"? It was in big block letters in the trailer. That's not "hinted at' that's "announced."
Here's another hint for Blizzard: Give us the damn dance studios.
