The fact of the matter is that security is a non-trivial problem and you can't expect it to have a trivial solution. You can install good virus-scanning software, practice safe browsing, and yes you can use a Mac or Linux since they present a smaller (and faster moving... and armored...) target but the fact still remains that security is everyone's problem and it can't be solved by any simple fire-and-forget method.
