The Daily Quest: Responding to Catacylsm's stat changes

With today's information overload about changes to game stats in Cataclysm, everyone seems to be talking about how these changes will hit home. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you may want to catch up on the latest news before seeing what the WoW blogging community is saying about it: Eyonix's original post has most of the information, though there have been a number of clarifications since. We're working on our own analysis of all these changes, but in the meanwhile the blogoshpere is already abuzz.
- Flow talks about what these changes mean for resto shamans.
- Righteous Defense looks at things from a tanking perspective.
- HolyPaladin.net talks about -- what else? -- what this means for holydin gear.
- Big Bear Butt gives a rundown for bear druids.

Ok seems to be much argument about this and I haven't found a definitive answer yet. Have we got a confirmation of reforging?
You have 100 Hit on
You reforge the hit to haste do you end up with:
a) 50 hit and 50 haste
or
b) Just 50 haste
Or is it still pretty much work in progress?

Quite possibly c) neither of the above.
A given piece of gear has an item budget. Each stat has a cost. 1 point of hit may not cost the same itemization budget as 1 point of haste.
So for example if the item has 200 points of budget allocated to give you 100 points of hit (at 2 points per hit point - I am making these numbers up) but haste is worth 4 item points, the result may be that reforging 50% of your hit (50 hit = 100 item points) into haste only gives you 25-points of haste. It's extremely likely that this is the case because with the avoidance changes if 1 point of dodge is worth the same as one point of parry or block, everyone would want to reforge 50% of all their block and parry to dodge as an example.
Either way, I don't think it will wipe out the stat that you're reforging. Just reduce it by 50% and reallocate the item budget points to a different stat.

The post from today made it sound like B, but someone corrected me and told me it was A. It could be A, B, or C (something completely different) by the time 4.0 goes live. I do, however, think I went bat-crazy at some point tonight trying to figure it out...
Adam Holisky Mar 2nd 2010 12:49AM
It's very likely B, but there is no clear answer from Blizzard. I'll poke some Moose tomorrow and try to find out.

Has anyone considered all the Stamina incoming on gear is the fodder for classes to go about their reforging? I've read a lot of qq about this boost to stamina to move non-tanking classes allowance of this stat up to a hefty level. Does this sound like the stat that one could dump into spirit for healers intellect for caster dps, agi for melee DPS and soforth?
Hal Mar 2nd 2010 8:45AM
They've already said that they wouldn't let you reforge Stamina, and I can kinda see why. Given the opportunity, I suspect most DPS would go into a raid with 100 health if it meant having 5x more attack/spell power. I don't think Blizzard wants to introduce any "dump stats."
LSRGUNPEWPEW Mar 2nd 2010 4:16AM
you guys are retarded. It cuts the stat you have by half and adds another.
100 hit reforged turned into 50 whatever you can.
Reforging seemed like a cool idea. But only in extreme circumstances can it actually be useful, especially considering they are changing the caps per new tier of raiding.

is the link where it says
"what these changes mean for resto shamans."
broken? or am i just having problems with my internet?
berry Mar 2nd 2010 5:19AM
Try this:
http://www.restoshamanflow.com/?p=175
somehow the link there is wrong...
Wugan Mar 2nd 2010 11:43AM
There were likely a few hours last night and this morning where the link was broken. I moved to self-hosted overnight, and I believe it is working correctly now. So, totally my fault, and not WoW.com's. As berry said, I'm at http://www.restoshamanflow.com now.
easypeasy Mar 2nd 2010 5:28AM
ffs blizz ever heard the phrase "if it ain't broke don't try to fix it"?
agnoster Mar 2nd 2010 5:44AM
I guess you're saying Blizz shouldn't ever release new content, or make any changes? After all, if it isn't spectacularly terrible, how could it possibly be better?!
In all seriousness though, I'm somewhat bemused by people complaining about the stat changes/weapon skill removal/etc. and how it makes the game "too easy". Really? If you thought the challenge and fun of the game was figuring out what gear to equip, or whaling on a mob for hours on end to level your weapon skill, you are probably an exceedingly boring person, or a bigger nerd than me. (Yeah, I actually enjoy spreadsheeting gear sometimes, but I'm not going to cry when that goes away.)
Might as well complain that life is too easy if they simplified tax forms...

The one stat change which pisses me off is resilience - blizzard has single handedly given every single arena match over to warlocks:
Resilience - This will only affect damage done by players and critical damage done by players. It will not impact crit chance, mana drains, or other such effects.
martustheswordsman Mar 2nd 2010 3:22PM
What is meant by this change is that it will become a pure PvP stat. As far as the mana drain component being removed, if it's broken it will be fixed.

I don't understand why the hell they're giving more Stamina to clothies. Clothies such as Mages and Warlocks are supposed to be squishy because they deal very large burst damage ("glass cannons"). If they're given so much Stamina as to be "more on par with plate wearers", won't that fuck up class balance?
Same thing with Mail armor becoming closer to plate armor.
VioletArrows Mar 2nd 2010 2:04PM
People keep saying this, forgetting that Stamina = hp. Stamina only equals defense/armor on the tanks who stack it. Yes, everyone will have a ton more hp, but cloth/leather/mail wearers will blow through all that hp quickly because they're still squishy.
AoE burst damage for 20000hp:
On a Cata tank = 10000/35000
On Cata dps= 15000/30000
On Cata heals = 20000/25000
No one will die INSTANTLY, but now everyone's gotta be on their toes, maintaining aggro and getting heals up before another blast comes in and really does everyone in. Fights where a little mistake one-shots half the group (aka screw you, HoS) can be frustrating or boring, depending on who's role you're in.
