Gnome and troll starting zones to be revamped

It's been a long time coming for two of the game's original races who got the shaft when Burning Crusade introduced two new races with their own capital cities while gnomes and trolls continued to squat in Ironforge and Orgrimmar, respectively. Over the chat, developers mentioned that they were looking at revamping all the original starting zones, with particular focus on the two races. Now that Cataclysm is on the horizon and Blizzard plans to introduce two more races with the worgens and goblins, it only seemed fitting that gnomes and trolls get their due.
However, the developers were quick to point out that the zones won't get as "epic" a feel as the two new races in Cataclysm. They did reveal that they have "big plans" for the two races, hinting at the events set to come in a future patch, if not Patch 3.3.3. Blizzard also reminded everyone that they planned to overhaul all the starting zones with Cataclysm, which improves gameplay, quest flow, and overall experience. Now that these squatter races are finally getting equal status with the others, maybe Blizzard will finally let us see a gnome in the Cataclysm cinematic?

I just want my troll priest to wear shoes!
Marcosius Mar 2nd 2010 3:40PM
"Thank you for the new shoes!" -GLA Worker
But if trolls would get shoes, I'd want intact clothes for the forsaken.
Possum Mar 2nd 2010 8:17PM
I love my lack of shoes. Troll feet freedom!

Taz dingo!

Silly, gnomes have been in every cinematic to date! They're just so darn short that they don't make it in frame!

In the lich king cinematic those are actually gnomish skeletons. You just don’t realize it because there’s nothing of a comparable height around. But yeah, that’s actually a howling, frozen horde of two foot tall miniature skeletal warriors the Lich King is rallying.

No wonder Sindragosa looked so gigantic then...

Retaking Gnomeregon sounds awesome. Trolls taking back the Echo Islands... not so epic. Doesn't seem like it's going to be much of a city, too. I hope they plan on building more there.
To make Echo Islands seem epic, they'll need to go all Swiss Family Robinson with steroids.
Gnosh Mar 2nd 2010 3:16PM
Maybe they'll just... make them bigger.

'bout time, mon. (Troll's have to be the best race to RP as :D)
The Darkspear Trolls are epic.
Noff said.

All of my experience with Troll RPers has basically been "hey, I can type with a Jamaican accent."

Yeah it's unfortunate that they get stuck into that. They have an amazing back story, one of the oldest races of Azeroth, once the ruler of most of the world in a huge Empire, original race to lock away the bugs of AQ, now just a bunch of small tribes trying to survive their harsh skirmishes with elves and each other. The Darkspear being the smallest of these tribes is now rising to glory as members of the Horde.
So much potential all wasted, just so people can say "Gwan on rudeboy?"

I'm sensing a twinge of jealousy there, Braundo. 8D
(cutaia) Mar 2nd 2010 4:46PM
Jealousy? It's easy to type with a jamacain accent. Watch:
Ze rain een spain falls mainly on ze plain, eh? Pip pip, cheerio!
Crap.

Gnome in the cinematic? Don't hold your breath.
I'd love to see it, but I can't imagine that they're quite THAT ready to accept gnomes.
Juggynaut Mar 2nd 2010 3:25PM
The only way I can see a gnome in a WoW cinematic is as follows:
A gnome warlock, with an evil grin, stands in the middle of a road holding his arm in front of him with the palm and fingers at a 90 degree angle. He starts to cast a spell at a monster, when out of nowhere a wagon driven by a tauren accidently runs the gnome over and continues on his merry way.
At least in the BC trailer, trolls were given a moment of raptor-riding glory.
RIding a mechanical turkey...not so much.
Khremloc Mar 2nd 2010 3:31PM
Oh wow, Juggynaut. I'm still brimming with awe after that troll/raptor silhouette hurtled towards the camera.
Henrah Mar 2nd 2010 3:54PM
There's a gnome with purple hair in the Wrathgate cinematic.

20 seconds in, you'll see her in the background.
Be amazed.
Josin Mar 2nd 2010 3:56PM
Yeah. She's not even geared up for combat. Civilian casualty. Great.
