Patch 3.3.3 PTR: Revenge of the Warrior, now Improved

Protection
- Revenge damage has been slightly lowered, it now deals [ 31% of AP + 1636 ] to [ 31% of AP + 1998 ] damage at max rank. Down from [ 31% of AP + 2181 ] to [ 31% of AP + 2665 ] damage.
- Improved Revenge now Increases damage of your Revenge ability by 30/60% (up from 10/20%) and causes Revenge to strike an additional target for 50% damage.
- Vitality now increases your total Strength by 2/4/6%, Stamina by 3/6/9% and your Expertise by 2/4/6.(On live, this is Strength and Stamina by 2/4/6% and Expertise by 2/4/6.)
- Trauma now lasts 1 min, up from 15 sec.
As for Revenge, the baseline ability is being adjusted slightly downward from our original exciting 3.3.3 revelation. But Improved Revenge is being hugely buffed. Hugely. When we first heard the news that Revenge would be getting some improvements, we speculated in the comments that perhaps they'd throw some AoE viability in there, and now they have done exactly that. By baking it into the talent instead of the baseline ability (and by removing the stun from Imp Revenge, it appears) you cut back on prot warrior stuns in PvP while giving a strong new reason to pick up Imp Revenge for more damage and more AoE threat. It's a pretty solid change for a tanking prot warrior.

The revenge change sounds kinda nice, and it'll definitely make revenge worth using again. Not too thrilled about the apparent removal of the stun, but I reserve the right to change my mind once I see the damage numbers in a fight. Looks like ~4500 dmg before armor for me, raid buffed, if my mental math didn't fail me. And I'm only doing ~2-2.5k to mobs on live right now.

For endgame PvE, the stun is pretty well useless, anyway. Personally, the only thing I'm mad about with the current PTR changes is that I'll have to decide where to pull two points out of my current spec to pick up Imp Rev again.

what would be my rotation with my level 54 warrior if I have Improved Revenge as a tank in a 5 man.... trash and boss fights?
Tom Mar 3rd 2010 3:25PM
When Revenge becomes available... Press it.
VSUReaper Mar 3rd 2010 3:58PM
Should be the same as always (excluding the recent increase in Dev dmg) - use it as often as you can. Just dont miss out on a free shield slam proc (Sword n Board) in favor of a revenge.

Prot warrior tanking does not use a set-in-stone rotation. Any rotation you find will be thrown out the window less than 2 after engaging any enemy. It's all about instinct and split-second desicions, you really do need fast reactions to be a good tank.
Every time the GCD comes round you need to make a choice, 'do I use an offensive or defensive ability?', 'Do i use my free shield slam on this mob, or swith and use it on that mob?'. 'Do i have enough agro?', 'Am i about to die?'
No rotation can ever tell you these things. In short, don't use rotations. Learn your abilities, use them all and work our which one is good for which situation.

A-mazing. Trauma for 1 min helps so much for bleeds considering we have to move so much. May have some QQs in pvp

As a Feral, I approve of the Trauma Change. The discrepancy between Trauma & Mangle was REALLY annoying
J-bob Mar 3rd 2010 3:21PM
Mangle (cat and bear) & Trauma are getting buffed to 1 minute durations in 3.3.3. Part of the 'normalization' of buffs.

This might make me start playing my warrior again...although tanking has always stressed me out to the point of shaking. I need to find ways to calm myself down while tanking...any suggestions?
Darthbragg Mar 3rd 2010 3:42PM
I’m a level 80 prot warrior who had the same problem. I actually tried it several times and thought the stress was so much I just gave it up. What ended up working for me was running about three days worth of non heroic dungeons with the pug tool. At that point I was so over geared there was no way anyone was going to strip threat off me and it allowed me to work in the muscle memory of the new spec. If you’re like me it wasn’t not knowing what to do it was the disconnect between wanting to do it and making it happen. Also anyone running the non heroic was just glad to have an 80 there doing a faster run. I hope that helps some.

I know I in the minority..at least as far as this site goes, but I don't consider the guys at mmo-chmpions "fine folks" WTF happend to gamers that actually played the games honest instead of waiting for the next bit of data mining so they can see exatly what is going to happen next, it's really like that asshole who ran through the lobby shouting at the top of his lungs "Darth Vader is Luke father" during the ESB preimere. I guess it's all part of the quest for the everlarger e-cock.
Falcon6 Mar 3rd 2010 3:20PM
....you must be joking....
This stuff wasn't datamined. This stuff was on PTR, which Blizzard posted with all known intentions of spoiling this stuff.
And if you're complaining about how they've spoiled this stuff before....come ON.
You're complaining about stuff JUST to complain...and I may or may not be in the minority here, but that is a reeeeeeeally annoying character trait.
stormdragon_ Mar 3rd 2010 3:25PM
Acording to the article?
Yes it was datamined...unless the author is lying.
And folks who put way too many "E's" in "really" are even more annoying
jrizutko Mar 3rd 2010 3:33PM
@Stromdragon
I call trolling. I cannot believe anyone who wants to avoid WoW news would spend their time on sight full of WoW news.
Falcon6 Mar 3rd 2010 3:42PM
Nah, I was adding the "E"'s to try and match with just how annoying the complaining just to complain people are to me.
I probably should've added more.
In any case, if you are someone who doesn't want to be spoiled by story elements, you shouldn't be going on a site that specializes in data-mining in the first place. To put it in your example, that would be like going to a Star Wars story discussion without knowing the spoiler in Empire Strikes Back, and then acting all shocked and angry when they start talking about it.
And MMO Champion has been doing fairly well in warning people about spoilers before posting about them. So really, the people who are going to be reading MMO Champion and getting those spoilers are most likely wanting the spoilers in the first place...and being angry about it after a warning is just being silly.
And if you're saying that they shouldn't datamine in the first place, then that's just, as I said before, complaining just for the sake of it. There's no reason to complain about it. WoW is not some sort of huge book release like Harry Potter, where all the story spoilers simply CANNOT be released to the general public until the book is out.
And if you're saying they're bad because the information is released to people who would gladly spoil all the information on Trade Chat, then honestly, this should really be the case where you DO shoot the messenger...
Eh, well, I guess I came off too strongly on it. Just like you have a pet peeve on people who spoil, I have one for people who tend to complain without a lot of reason behind it...I guess I have a pet peeve for pet peeves.
...
Weird.
Darkleeroy Mar 3rd 2010 5:27PM
Wait... Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father? WTF!!!!
Falcon6 Mar 3rd 2010 3:23PM
I love...love...LOVE the Imp. Revenge change. I cannot WAIT to mess with it on live.
