The Daily Quest: Changes and reactions

Yesterday's hot discussion topic around the web was news of Cataclysm's upcoming stat changes. And today? There's still a lot of chatter, so let's toss out a few more links:
- Killing 'em Slowly reviews warlock changes.
- Flame Shock looks at the changes from an enhancement shaman perspective.
- The Hunter's Mark is here to give us a hunter's perspective.
- Gray Matter -- as always! -- talks Moonkins.
- Herding Cats thinks it's too soon.
- Cannot be Tamed wonders how many guilds will make use of it.
- BobTurkey thinks that future ICC kills will leave raiders asking "did we push ourselves enough to do it, or did they just nerf it down to our level?"

Herding Cats doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "optional buff".

Do you know how folks talk about "downing pre-nerf M'uru"? No? Well, at least that has some kind of date and acknowledgment that you did it in the progression logs at those sites. This buff? Invisible to achievement trackers and the like. So it really -does- knock down your sense of accomplishment. It's not as huge a nerf as the 3.0 was, of course, but at least that could be tracked. Here, if you kill a boss after the nerf/raid-buff goes live, it's going to be assumed that you used it.

No, it DOESN'T knock down your sense of accomplishment. A sense of accomplishment is an internal thing where you get to say "I did this". It has nothing to do with what other people think.

Optional buff isn't so optional when half the guild wants it, and the other half doesn't. That is one of the decisions the guild leadership will have to decide. And no matter which way it goes, there will always be people who think the opposite was the correct way.
Too soon is too soon.
Unexpected EOF Mar 3rd 2010 1:43PM
No, people would be crying REGARDLESS of whether or not it was "too soon." If your guild wants it on and you don't, don't raid with them. Find a guild who wants it off! I mean, clearly with all the complaining people will be forming buff-free guilds.

Will the be different achievments based on whether or not you had the buff on when you down the Arthas.
RayRay Mar 3rd 2010 2:54AM
What is the matter it is an optional buff you can take it or leave it it does not effect the normal achievements but guess what kids it does not effect hardcore mode so who cares. If you don't want the buff turn it off

Just goes to show how many elitist pricks there are in the blogging world. Don't like the buff? Click it off.. It's not like us casuals will be getting your hard mode e-peens anyway. What we WILL get is a shot at seeing the most anticipated encounter in the entire Warcraft lore.

Nerfed difficulty deserves nerfed loot as well

I personally like the new buff to ICC. It will give a little boost to smaller guilds to help get them past the second wing of ICC.
Also I have a blog I would like to share with the daily quest readers: http://jedsguildinfo.blogspot.com/ it has a few blogs on how to play as different classes and is regularly being added to.

I think this buff came too soon as well. I understand you can click it off, but for everyone who's been progressing through ICC as it was meant to be done, it does cheapen it a little bit. We've just gotten to the LK last week and spent a few hours figuring out the encounter etc. Now this week, even if we were close to downing him before and even though I'll suggest to my raid that we don't use the buff and beat it like it was meant to be beat, I'll still feel a lesser level of achievement and I fear that everyone else will as well. Yea it's optional, but this could have been postponed a few weeks easily to let everyone learn and tackle the encounters at the levels they were meant. They gated ICC progression and it seemed to serve its purpose at drawing out WOTLK content a bit. Now this buff is going to push people even quicker to finish the content and take their summer breaks while we wait for Cataclysm.

You aren't who choses how it's meant to be done.

This is a game right? Or .. am I interviewing for a job that will be paying me where I should put forth 100% effort?
The way I see it, I know I don't need the buff, but I can not rely on others to do my job for me. There will always be the weaker links in your raid and for some guilds on many servers, you don't have much options. For example, I'm a raider on a RP server. What choices do we REALLY have aside from those (like me) who made the mistake of moving to a server where ppl walk by and tell the gryphon rider that they'll see them tomorrow?
Joking aside, who gives a hell if you use the buff or not. You still need to have some form of motor skills to know the strats of the fight. At least they didn't nerf the boss and gave you something to do still. I think the raid leader should use these buffs as treats for their raiders if they are doing a good job or think they may need a bit of a push. I know we need a bit of a bum boost for Putresside 25man.
For me, a buff or no buff doesn't make a difference, I'll enjoy the game and know I put my best effort in regardless!

You know whats sad. Blizzard always nerfs raid content, usually just before the next batch of content. There is always some grumbling but with this buff available in icecrown nearly EVERYONE is complaining and this is the one time they gave people the option to not use it. WTH? It's like actually having a choice for once pissed everyone off. Alot of what I am reading is that some people in a guild/raid want to use it and some do not. Then maybe you are not in the best place for you if the rest of the guilds goals do not match with your own. Find a bleeding edge guild and be happy you did content pre nerf or unbuffed or shut up and enjoy seeing the "last boss" of current content. If this were pre-BC then most these guilds complaining they just need a few more weeks would be stuck at BWL/first couple AQ40. As for me I will accept the buff and play with people that are not able to do more than 4-6 hours a week raiding and no time to read strats and watch videos but whom I have a good time with and are good friends.
Goradan Mar 3rd 2010 12:46PM
Blizzard really needs to give some warning before pulling something like this right out from under our noses.
If we'd known the buff was coming this week, I'd've added another night or two of raiding to try and get Sindy and LK down. Ugh. I know it's optional but it's just not fair to compete in a handicapped manner either.
Unexpected EOF Mar 3rd 2010 1:44PM
Why are you "competing" with casual guilds?
RayRay Mar 3rd 2010 4:50PM
You are talking about fairness when Blizz has given you the utmost of fairness. They are allowing you to choose and you are not handicapping yourself if you don't take the buff you are playing it as blizz originally intended and to my knowledge the buff does not exist in heroic mode so stop acting like blizz pissed in your cornflakes they could have just not given you a choice and just nerfed the damn instnace
Goradan Mar 3rd 2010 1:50PM
It no longer matters if you're casual or not. And I'm not in a hardcore guild either, I'd say we're in the mid-range, mostly just doing 10s, but really, since there's no way to tell if another guild at our level is getting a kill ahead of us based on using the buff or not, it is a handicap.
I'm not saying it shouldn't have been done, all I'm saying is, it should've been announced a week in advance at least so those wanted to get stuff done without the buff in game AT ALL would have the option of pushing their schedule to try and do so.
