Around Azeroth: Collateral damage
After kiting Thrym the Hope Ender down to K3, Jayenn of <Sauce> on Khadgar had to destroy the city in order to save it. Well ... actually, he probably could have saved the city by not kiting Thrym there in the first place, but where's the fun in that? Nothing wrong with wiping out a whole city of NPCs in WoW. They'll respawn in a few minutes anyway, which kind of takes the fun out of the whole death-and-destruction thing.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

That's an impressive example of kiting! Not *quite* as impressive as the Fel Reaver in Shattrath or Doom Lord Kazzak in Stormwind, but impressive nonetheless. I wonder if this is why Blizzard put Dalaran in the air - so people couldn't cause havoc by kiting huge things into it?

Some people on my server, Area 52, decided one day to kite Anachronos from Tanaris all the way to Orgrimmar several times. It was funny seeing a huge yellow dragon in the middle of Org.

For the forgetful like me, it's the huge guy who pats on the road in Zul'Drak:

When I saw the smaller picture under Around Azeroth on the right, I thought the title would be "Thrym making snow angels".

Damn, this guy is big!

So why don't mobs like this break off and reset?
peon47 Mar 4th 2010 11:34AM
Mobs don't break off and reset when kited properly; That's the challenge of long-range kiting. :)
The trick is to keep them in combat with you the entire time, without doing so much damage you kill them before gettting to your destinaton.
Aeltyra Mar 4th 2010 3:34PM
@peon47 there are some mobs that are 'leashed' though - kiting them too far away from their original location will have them reset, no matter how good a kiter you are.

Thrym fails at making a snow angel.

One of the best pics yet! This one made my day. Props to the work that went in to this (I wonder if he got him to fall just right on the first try? I'd guess it took a few attempts).

Great picture.

Kiting ...
I have yet to reap the benefits of Fame in that. I once tried to kite a diseased wolf into SW, and antoher time tried to kite a scorpion into Ogrimmar ... but the blasted animals just wouldn't game.
(I almost got a boar into SW once, but I was "saved" by a 80-something oneshotting it).
Well, I got a 80 retadin and I just any day now try to kite, uhm ... a GHOUL into Icecrown!
No, wait ...
(I envy the kiters. They're so much more savvy than me, a mere grunt hero amongst the truly Epic Heros ... *sob*)
Paurixote Mar 4th 2010 10:34AM
80-something?
Are you posting this from the future?!
What's Cataclysm like?
Imnick Mar 4th 2010 10:35AM
It's often HARDER to kite weaker enemies like you are just because they can't take any punishment.
You basically require a constant stream of DOTs just to keep them interested and on a diseased wolf... that's not really possible.
Kakistocracy Mar 4th 2010 2:29PM
I once kited the shark into the middle Dalaran, but then someone killed it. The trick to kiting low health things is to polymorph them from time to time and hope no one kills them (polymorph is also the trick to getting the shark out of the water in the first place).
Dragonrose Mar 4th 2010 6:24PM
I think the something was meant to replace the class, not say the guy was over 80.
