In-Game Fixes for March 4th, 2010

- In the Lord Marrowgar encounters, the boss will no longer reset threat after a bone storm and will now wait a small amount of time before attacking at the end of a bone storm.
- In the Deathbringer Saurfang encounters, the boss is now less likely to cast Blood Nova on targets affected by Mark of the Fallen Champion.
- In both normal and heroic versions of the 10 player Rotface encounter, the mutated infection ability will not be cast as quickly while the fight progresses.
- In the 10- and 25-player heroic Festergut encounters, the malleable goo ability should no longer target pets.
- In the Valithria Dreamwalker encounters, the duration of Emerald Vigor and Twisted Nightmares were slightly increased.
- In the Sindragosa encounters, the duration of the instability debuff was slightly reduced.

part of me wants to QQ.... then I start thinking of the PUGs I've been in that can't handle the transition, and that part shuts up

All it takes is a hunter to perform not even a supremely well-timed couple of Misdirected Shots on Marrowgar at the end of the Bone Storm and, yay, a raid is saved. Any hunters, PuGged or otherwise, that can't handle that should be told, even helped, to delete their character and roll something a little more suited to their sheer lack of ability. (*coughpaladincough*) :p
Speaking as a hunter, I'm going to miss that little sliver of responsibilty there. Stupid huntards, and stupid PuGs. :(

Personally, I liked having Marrowgar as a very basic metric of how fail the PUG was. If the DPS couldn't handle watching their timers and stopping a second or two before the end of the WW phase, they weren't going to be able to get through the later bosses, either. Better to find that out on the first boss than to get saved to a raid ID that you'd be lucky to get through Saurfang with, let alone any of the later wings.

I personally am happy with the important part of this. If they had just delayed the attack it would have been fine, but I can't tell you how many times I have grabbed the boss and watched the clothie he just finished bomestorming get saber lashed. Seriously, there was maybe a one second delay from the end of bomestorm to the first lash. Now I can eat a single lash solo, but the Mage who didn't know which direction to go yet as I rotate him didn't deserve to act like a tank and eat that.
Making him delay would have been good enough the threat dump is just to let those PUGs trying to get their 5 badges a break.

Marrowgar was in need of a fix IMO. If he happened to stop next to a healer, especially a druid, that healer was dead.
aisenfaire Mar 4th 2010 10:14PM
I'm curious. Why "especially a druid"?
Eregos ftw! Mar 4th 2010 10:22PM
@ aisenfare Because druids are constantly hotting the raid, thus they will draw aggro faster.
Stilhelm Mar 5th 2010 1:10PM
Yep, happened to me more than once. I think the threat reset was fine, but tanks should have had a couple seconds to pick up Marrowgar before healers get one-shot. Alternatively, they could have just had a lack of healing threat for the encounter, because really, how long has it been since healing threat was an integral part of an encounter? It was part of this encounter, but only because of the instant one-shot swings (even with Barkskin up) at the end of bone storm, and obviously the encounters aren't designed around the random one-shotting of healers.

Honestly, I don't see any reason that these changes should be subject to the whole "LAWL BLIZ MAKES DIS GAME 2 EASEH" type of QQ. It's not like they are drastically changinng the mechanics of this fight, Marrowgar is for convenience's sake, as Kondin mentioned, if he happened to stop near a healer, that healer would me munching floor in a matter of seconds, at least now the tanks will have an easier time picking Marrowgar up (especially in those pugs with trigger happy dps).
The saurfang change make this fight much easier on the healers, if someone got the mark and then boiling blood, it was game over for them, and Saurfang would eat their faces.
Some people are acting like these changes make it so you can walk in, /slap the boss, and it dies, and drops loot that goes straight to that filthy warlock in the group who always steals your awesome gear. I welcome this change, as it will make ICC an easier pug for people, which makes it less stressful if there's alot of trigger happy dps, or the heaers are busy topping up other members of the raid, only to have someone get marked and have boiling blood on them and not even be able to get a Lesser Healing Wave, Flash of Light, Flash heal or Nourish onto them before their face gets ripped off, bounces around the room, and kills your tank for whatever reason

For those who think this is a nerf, compare pre and post nerf Magtheridon.
Noid Mar 4th 2010 10:26PM
I am excited for the aggro changes on Marrowgar. I have been having nightmares about him for weeks. I have downed him before, but the nightmares still continue. I am getting tired of them.
I hope you dont think i am kidding. I am being dead serious.
talkingmike Mar 4th 2010 10:42PM
Yes, but can we call you Shirley?
Noid Mar 4th 2010 10:43PM
call me whatever you desire i guess...
Aedilhild Mar 4th 2010 11:46PM
I had a nightmare the other night about being Cannon-rushed by Protoss. It happens.
As for the article, any guild or group that could legitimately take exception has already downed Arthas. For the rest of us, the changes are just fine.
Rob Mar 4th 2010 10:28PM
I, for one, welcome our new nerfed overlords.
Sheqeri Mar 4th 2010 11:10PM
Am I the only one that noticed? Festergut doesn't cast malleable goo, that'd be Putricide.
Haji Mar 4th 2010 11:31PM
Nope, I was getting ready to make the same comment... you just beat me to it.
Monketron Mar 4th 2010 11:54PM
Festergut Heroic has PP throwing Malleable goo at players from his balcony.
Sheqeri Mar 5th 2010 1:48AM
Holy cow, I feel dumb
Kaeleb Mar 5th 2010 4:30PM
Mmm...free goo.
