Stormrage novel hits the best-seller lists

Stormrage by Richard A. Knaak has made USA Today's Top 150 Best Selling Books list, coming in at #126 of the best selling books based on sales through February 28, 2010. Apparently the ebook community is embracing the new story as well: Stormrage hit #8 on the best seller list for ebooks from BooksOnBoard.
The latest offering in the World of Warcraft line of novels, Stormrage continues the story of events that the green dragonflight have been dealing with since World of Warcraft's launch: Nightmares have invaded the Emerald Dream, Malfurion Stormrage is nowhere to be seen, the Dragons of Nightmare are busting out of portals, and it looks like the whole of the Emerald Dream is in danger of permanent corruption. With Stormrage, we finally get to see what's been brewing for five years now -- no wonder it's popular!
You can pick up a copy of Stormrage at the Blizzard Store for yourself. Check out our full review of the novel, and our refresher course on the history of Malfurion Stormrage.

Always nice to see more and more people diving into the lore of warcraft
Jay Mar 6th 2010 8:27PM
Just a shame their dive isn't into more well written water.

So it's not gonna win the Booker or Pulitzer prizes. Who cares? Just read it and enjoy it, like eating packet of potato chips.

@uncaringbear
There's accepting lesser quality entries to an established lore within reason, and then there's blindly gobbling up whatever crap is shoveled in our face. The former is fine--I think we've all come to accept the sudden, seemingly arbitrary shoehorning of Varian and Garrosh into the forefront of the lore for the sake of justifying more in-game PvP--but the latter is Knaak. He proved that when he screwed over the War of the Ancients and Illidan Stormrage in order to toss in his all-knowing, all-powerful, hot elf banging borderline self-insert (with a vaguely Japanese name for extra dork "cool points," no less!).
Is Warcraft lore some high art that shouldn't be stained with anything short of epic, mature high fantasy? No. In fact, the comparison to potato chips is quite apt; it's literary junk food. However, just because Warcraft lore is junk food doesn't mean there are worse things than junk food, and I don't know about you but I don't like my potato chips dipped in shit.
I prefer ranch.

I have really enjoyed Stormrage so far, just reaching the last chapter now. It isn't the best book I've ever read, nor was it meant to be. But I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

Umm, either you:
1. are a cunning detective to find out the USA Today + BooksonBoard
2. got emailed by Richard, to learn of this.
3. borrowed it from Blizzplanet/WoW:IncGamers
He informed me those two top lists personally. =)

...check the source link?
Threa Mar 6th 2010 8:52PM
Sorry if this is a double post but the links the author provided to the Blizzard store prompted a warning from my web browser and the URL doesn't match the Blizzard store url that I'm accustomed to. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Good catch. Here's what I got when I added it to my cart and then went to check out:
You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to www.warcraft3center.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
When I went back into it through BLIZZARD.COM, I found that my shopping cart was EMPTY.
A "whois" search brought up Blizzard for the registrant of "warcraft3center.com", so it's probably okay, but just to be on the safe side, I'd go into the store from:
http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100000882
Here is the full "whois" data on "warcraft3center.com":

Oop - I had a weird link. It's been corrected to the right one for the Blizzard store, thank you for the pointer!
clankoh_site Mar 6th 2010 9:20PM
I think I have seen the Warcraft3center link before, is it a Blizzard domain name or was it a fansite at one point? Rings a bell.

Can we get a KYL with the major plot points from the book? I'm stuck on page 82, and I'm considering filing charges with the International Criminal Court for 117 counts of ellipsis abuse.

Has anyone received their signed collector's edition yet? I ordered mine the day it became available and haven't gotten it yet. :(
Rmschoir Mar 6th 2010 11:30PM
We must take action! I've dispatched some barely-peripheral lore figures with self-confidence issues to investigate. I have no doubt that they are up to the task set before them. If only they would believe in themselves. . . .
. . . .
Orbs. . . .
Leviathan. . . .
. . . .

I'm trying to force myself to finish this book, but I just can't. There will be parts that are nicely written and enjoyable, but then I'll come to a couple pages that just seem to grind the whole book to a halt. It is probably the most frustrating reading experience I've had in years.
Possum Mar 7th 2010 5:03AM
He wrote it during nanowrimo ;)

Welcome to Knaak's World of Crap.
Enjoy the ride, you may not live through it.
Kia Mar 6th 2010 10:20PM
Hint: You don't actually need to sell -that- many copies to be even fairly high on the bestsellers list, let alone -#126-. Is that even something to brag about?
clankoh_site Mar 6th 2010 11:21PM
I disagree. It's not easy at all to be in the TOP 150. Specially USA Today's list. Add to that, it's a novel based in a video game. To make the TOP 150 within 5 days since it was released, now that's interesting. That list was for sales done by February 28. The book went on sale the 23rd.
splodesondeath Mar 7th 2010 8:25PM
From the looks of current literature, you can get on a list for virtually anything. This book proves it.
