"pick Loch Modan" only works if you pronounce Loch incorrectly. It isn't pronounced "lock". The "ch" is a harsh throat sound, like in Scottish Loch (meaning lake) or German Bach.

Not so fun any longer when there is no lock to pick...

And I must say, this really didn't come off as Mathias Shaw to me. I've always thought of him as a sophisticated academic. Much like the higher up assassins in the Assassins' Guild of Ankh-Morpork.

Did you see the way he was speaking? The only thing he pronounces 'correctly' is kill. Because of all the practice, maybe.
