Breakfast Topic: Favorite names

The Warcraft universe is full of names, some strange, some familiar. We have the parody names: Vana Grey, Xiggs Fuselighter (above), Linken. There are the homages to literature: Morgan Stern, the putative author of The Princess Bride, and Commander Falstaav, a joke on Shakespeare's Falstaff. There appear to be family names like Anduin. There are the cultural patterns that allow for easy guessing of an NPC's race -- who's the gnome? Bloodhoof or Mechatorque?
So what names from the World of Warcraft would you a) be proud to name your own children, or b) refuse to inflict upon an innocent child? Calia or Jaina wouldn't sound too far out of place in the real world, but I can't imagine meeting a Garrosh or Brann. (Especially, God forbid, a Brann Muffin.) Leave your thoughts! Warning: This is not a raffle to name Gregg's baby, as Lyssa Rhiannon has a name.

My family is full of D's, and I fully plan on having a Darion or a Daelin when I decide to procreate.

Liadrin, I think, would be OK for a middle name on a female. First names are a bit harder for me to get a grasp on, unfortunately.
If I had quadruplets, I would probably have to name them after the four Amani spirits in Zul'Aman: Akil'Zon (Kill, for short), Nalorakk (Nal, for short), Jan'Alai (Jan, for short), and Halazzi (Hal).
Or you could name your son Dranosh. it means "heart of Draenor" in orcish.

That's just cruel. O_O

Don't let the warlocks take him. Your boy should be safe, hidden away by the elders of Garadar, imo.

Ugh! we know Dranosh means "heart of Draenor" WE'VE BEEN HEARING THAT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! DAMN YOU SAURFANG!!! X_X

Not warcraft related but I quite like the name Maldred (made me think of it when you said Nal, Nal - Mal, anyway) from Dragonlance - The Dhamon Saga.
As for Warcraft I would definitely say Shandris as a middle name for a girl. Earthfury for a boy definitely.

What's funny with Garrosh, is that in Canadian-French, it approximately translate to "throw something". especially if we add a 'er' for Garrosher to make it a verb. A kid with that name would have a real fun with other kids at school, i can tell you.

There was a guy I went to high school with named Bran (one "n" though)... Middle name was Nightrain... no one named Garrosh though.

Brann is close to the welsh name Bran, but it's not pronounced like the cereal grain, the 'a' is like the 'a' in 'barn.'
Kizzik Mar 9th 2010 8:08AM
My two favs are Calthodian and Kizzik. I'm also quite happy that no one else can use them for fears of copyright infringement. BWAHAHAHAHA!... What's that? They aren't copyrighted? Dang.... Oh well, FIRST!

My husband kept trying to get me to name our third child (which is due any day now) Arthas or Thrall (or Arthas Thrall) if it was a boy. Thankfully, it's a girl, so he's stopped bugging me about it.
pitch Mar 9th 2010 3:29PM
Christ, your husband's a nut. He's probably also oblivious that thrall is a real world, and of its definition.
Todd Mar 9th 2010 12:38PM
Might I recommend Jaina?
Hava Mar 9th 2010 1:34PM
While I'm as big a Thrall fan as any, your husband is aware of the fact that his name means "slave," right? And not just in, like, other languages, but in English as well. Not exactly a positive name for a child.

Enthralla? ;)
