You're underestimating Subtley rogues. They are not many, but considering the next patch when the spec is going to be buffed... Expect to see MANY more around. Especially from those who only do BG's and open world. I wouldn't be surprised that eventually Subtley would become cookie cutter spec with the introduction of rated BG's. Subtley is very deadly against cloth classes just because he can spam Ambush which has 75%+ crit chance (thats with very bad gear). I'm talking about Shadow Dance. If in 1v1 you don't CC or teleport away from the Subtley rogue in the 2-3 seconds during his opener, you're dead beyond the hope of recovery. It's actually with the plate classes the Subtley has more trouble, because added dodge chance simply doesn't help - magic, dots, stuns and attacks from behind - Subtley rogues don't use stun often and rely on killing the target in first 10 seconds or so. If they fail, they just reset the fight. I've seen some not even specing in Ghostly Strike because it's really not that useful for a GCD. At least not in the current patch. Also, for you information, kiting the rogue doesn't work. You will have slowing poison on you all the time and if you spend time dispelling it, you are going to simply die, because it will be reapplied faster than your GCD finishes. The rogue will shrug off any of your snare with CLOS, hit Sprint and by the time they close the gap again, you are dead, unless you outgear him by a horrible margin. Thats from a priest/arcane mage viewpoint.

As a long time Sub rogue, I agree with you on many points. With one exception, I think the tree has such a long history of being "weak" and such a brief history of being cool (I still have to explain HaT) that I doubt too many people will spec into it. Hopefully this buff will get us back into "acceptable" territory. Also, I'm surprised no one mentioned the power of Shadowstep? When I'm working a group of players, they constantly use their AoE's far too close together. I'm nowhere near the group, but I close that gap instantly with ShS. I think in general most classes assume we're stalking them much closer than we really do. Perhaps those other classes stay at a closer ranger.
