Breakfast Topic: Meet Sylvanas, she snores

Meet Sylvanas. She's about ten weeks old, and she awfully likes to gnaw on bones and my slippers. I'm aware that makes me a giant dork. I probably should have thought twice about naming my puppy after Sylvanas, but it's an awful lot of fun to point out things like "Sylvanas snores." My favorite is "Sylvanas has been sleeping with me and my wife all week." I know, I have the sophomoric sense of humor of a twelve year old.

But, really, Sylvie's adorable. However, I couldn't make this post if all I were doing was saying I named my dog after World of Warcraft. No, no, I'm going much further. Instead of telling her to "sit," I'm training her to plant her butt when she's told "Lok'tar." (That's not a very Orc-like use of the phrase, I know, but it's still very endearing.) "Ogar" is her command to "heel."

I'd like to pretend I'll eventually have Sylvia trained to a precision level like any good hunter pet. But for now, I'm just going to be satisfied if I can get her to stop chewing my slippers.

For the slipper chewing thing: bitter apple spray (will make things sticky, but bad-tasting) on outside of slippers/other things not to be chewed on. I would include absolutely any wires she could get at on that list. Then replace chewing desires onto nylabones and other positive things to chew on. She is absolutely adorable!

Awwww puppy! When my husband and I have a house with a fenced yard someday I want a dog-- a west highland white terrier, specifically. Maybe Magni would be a good name, as a nod to the Scottish origin and the smaller-but-really-sturdy (seriously, cinderblock with legs) build that Westies tend to have. :D

Shouldn't heel be loktar and sit be ogar? So you can command loktar ogar and have it make sense?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who named a pet after a character. My mini doxy's named Jaina.

It makes for some interesting vent conversations. "Aww. Jaina's barking in her sleep." "Hold on. Jaina needs a walk." "I think Jaina's trying to hump my throw pillow." x)
