Phat Loot Phriday: Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand

My favorite aspect of this epic blade is that it's blade from the Silver Hand, which is a more than significant bit of game lore. Since this weapon drops from Arthas, I think it's fairly clear that he somehow had been hoarding it (and other weapons) after having captured the weapon in combat.
For retribution paladins, this blade is especially attractive. I mean, the weapon is great for all of the two-handed DPS classes. But the weapon has a lot of strength, critical strike rating, and expertise, yet completely avoids wasting itemization points on armor penetration. This aspect makes it wonderfully suited to the class that has almost no use for ArP.
Sadly, though, Glorenzelg continues the trend of duct tape. Apparently, when the Lich King stole the weapon from the Silver Hand, he had to bind it back together. He chose to repair the weapon with skull-themed duct tape. That's okay. There's not much that the liberal application of some duct tape won't fix.
Name: Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand
Type: Two-Hand Sword
Damage: 895 - 1344 Damage (311.0 damage per second)
Speed: 3.60
Attributes:
- 181 Strength
- 197 Stamina
- 2 Red Sockets
- Socket Bonus: +6 Strength
- Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 115 (2.51% @ L80).
- Equip: Increases your expertise rating by 99 (12.08 @ L80).
How to get rid of it: If you're not about to pick up a Heroic version of the weapon, or perhaps Shadowmourne, don't. That being said, it breaks into an Abyss Crystal or sells for 31 gold, 57 silver, and 15 copper.

When I saw that, I thought it was the sword that drops off of Morrowgar-10. I was like, "Sweet! I have something from Phat Loot Phriday!"
Alas...I only have something that looks like phat loot...which is still actually kind of cool.

This even has the same horned skull that adorns much of Arthas' gear. When I asked about what creature it was to The Queue a while back they sugested that it was a creature from the Neather, since it is the Nathrezim are who crafted it. (I have since thought about this more and I think the skulls are those of Dreadsteed, the racial mount of the Nathrezim)
Was this sword reforged by Arthas to bear this symbol(because I could not see the Silver Hand putting demon horses on their swords), in wich case he should have reatached the hilt a little more securely, or did Blizzard say, "Damn lore, let's give pallys something to make them feel like they are swinging Frostmourn!"

I believe that this, as well as all the other weapons Arthas drops, are made so evil looking despite the original owners being good in order to show that they have been corrupted from being in the possession of the Lich King.

Or it could be from a former paladin turned Death Knight - that's how the Lich King's original death knights were created, not saying it's the only thing, but it's a possibility.

i don't mean to say this as to knock the weapon, but it's horrible for arms warriors. on just about anyone else, it's amazing. arms, it kinda stinks due to the weaker sword specialization, plus that expertise isn't really a hot stat for arms (arpen is, on the other hand...). of course, arms has oathbinder ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50425 ) and that's loaded with everything to make an arms warrior happy, particularly that it sets off poleaxe specialization.

Arms also has Shadow's Edge/Shadowmourne. If you can get it, anyway.
MightyBurebista Mar 12th 2010 9:55PM
IIRC, they remade the sword black and red, so it would no longer look that much like a blatant reuse of Citadel Enforcer's Claymore model?
Matthew Rossi Mar 12th 2010 10:12PM
That's the heroic version.
RetPallyJil Mar 12th 2010 11:24PM
Ugly sword, ugly name. Forgive me if I don't get excited.

Shame about the chatter 'copy text' button on the sword. :D
Besides, I feel like my mage will get pwnd by every retadin that walks by with that in his hands.. *sigh*

Lich King weapons blow chunks. They're nearly all recycled models.
Ontop of that, my pet peeve with weapon is having Hit or Expertise on them, once you upgrade said weapon you suddenly have to find a lot of Hit/Expertise to rebalance your cap.

Shadowmorne not being usable by shammys makes me sad, not for any lore or gameplay reason, just one personal one
shadowmorne + windfury weapon= BG fun!
just to remind me of the fun i had with the arcanite reaper
Cryssy Mar 13th 2010 1:14PM
It makes me sad. I have that weapon off of the Lich King but the healing mace I've come to adore.. :(
