WRUP: GDC edition

The Game Developers Conference is in full swing this week. There's been a bunch of interesting news out of it, so in addition to telling you fine folks what we plan on playing this St-Patrick's day weekend, the bonus question is what we are most excited about seeing from GDC 10.

Can I answer stout ale drinking games to both questions?

  • Adam Holisky (@adamholisky): I'm in DC this weekend taking my first real vacation in years (although I'm still checking emails, /facepalm). Azeorth is beautiful, but nothing really beats overlooking the US capitol from a restaurant 14 floors up. My SO also used to live here, so we've rented a car and already braved the highways to head out to a few of her old haunts; including a great Chinese place called Duck Chang's, Today's adventure? The metro.
  • Amy Schley (@wowlawbringer): This week I will be playing in the real world at a church retreat. Any other gaming time is being split between leveling the family Horde toons (pally and hunter with my husband's mage and shaman, respectively) and test driving the Lego Universe beta.
  • Brian Wood: [ed: all I got was some hard to comprehend mumbling about rolling a rogue and shopping for friendship bracelets]
  • Basil Berntsen (@outdps): I'll be recording both my podcasts again, and then participating in and recovering from St-Paddies day. As for GDC, I'm pretty pumped about Civ V.
  • Chase Christian (@madsushi): More attempts on the Lich King on Saturday, followed by a good deal of the Starcraft 2 beta.
  • Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb): In addition to the usual WoW badge gathering shenanigans, I'm going to try to finish up my Dwarven Noble playthrough on Dragon Age Origins in preparation for the Awakenings Expansion (I have my Dwarf Commoner and Human Noble ready to go already). As far as GDC Announcements, I'm a fan of adventure games, pirates, and silliness, so I am totally drooling over the Lechuck's Revenge special edition.
  • Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives): Since I finally finished Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2, I'll be playing Final Fantasy VI (while at work) and Final Fantasy XIII (while at home.) I am frankly not really sure what's getting announced at GDC, but I am looking forward to PAX in two weeks!
  • Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen): With all these ridiculous raids out of the way, I'll FINALLY have time to pick up Final Fantasy 13 and play the damn thing. And catching up on the sleep I missed because of these ridiculous raids that last until 2AM. If I do play WoW, it'll be to do some dungeon runs on my level 30 Druid and level 46 Shaman, which are proving to be surprisingly fun.

As for GDC: Does it make me a bad MMORPG gamer to be most looking forward to Civ 5? It looks pretty, and if I'm going to rule the world, I need a game to teach me how.
  • Joe Perez (@Lodurzj): Getting ready for the st patrick's day goodness that my city rolls out every year and spending time with the lady. Looking forward to the new Mass effect DLC, but from the GDC what I'm most looking forward to, the announcement of multiple playable factions in STO. The idea of having more than 2 or 3 factions is pretty awesome in a game like that, and can make for some interesting PvP encounters and missions, and the inclusion of the player base in the decision is exciting as well.
  • Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): Hoping to get a small handful more of frost badges, and starting questing in Storm Peaks again. Thinking about dipping a hoof into the Argent Tournament as well. :) Other than that, planning to pick up Zeno Clash for the PC. On top of all that, I'll be drawing comics like a madwoman and adjusting to my new furry and purry housemate.
As for GDC? I've been pulling overtime at my full time job, as well as moving offices, the cat, etc. I...don't even know what day it is anymore. *_*; I'll sniff around to see what catches my eye.
  • Matt Low (@matticus): I kept my Mass Effect saved games (I think). After a fairly pleasant drive nuking experience and installation of new hard drive, I can grab more games to play. Will need to find time for some ICC 10 action and maybe dive back into Dragon Age again. The thing I'm looking forward to the most? The Mass Effect 2 paid DLC: Kasumi's Stolen Memory! Not many titles have caught my eye.
  • Michael Gray (@writegray): Arena and some raiding on Sunday. Mostly, I'll be spending some quality time with Sylvanas.
  • Michael Sacco (@mikesacco): Taking care of business and waiting for payday so I can whet my appetite for new (and old) games. Though our political opinions might differ, as a Massachusetts boy born and raised, I'm pretty excited to see what Curt Schilling's 38 Studios can do with their two projects. Runic Games tried a similar approach -- make a single-player game to test the waters for an MMO -- and it appears to have worked for them, and with EA backing 38S, they'll likely have a surfeit of money for development.
  • Rich Maloy (@stoneybaby): Reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, and getting this guild off the ground! Unfortunately the PM's sent via the forums do not also trigger an email notification, so I have to find alternate ways to reach people; if you applied please check your forum inbox. In other news, my girlfriend is back from her 2 week Asia trip so we'll be spending Saturday together. I'm out of the loop on GCD so have no idea what expect.
  • Tyler Caraway (@Murmurs): Hoping to get over being sick in times for some St. Patrick's Day celebrations which means lots and lots and lots of some heavy medications. Inbetween being knocked out and only barely keeping my eyes open, I hope to get a bit of work in on my Hunter which I failed to get to 80 last weekend.
That's it for us. What about you folks? What are you playing this weekend? Also, what was the coolest thing to come out of the GDC, in your opinions?
