The Queue: In which vacation was taken

Most of last week I was on a nice vacation to the Washington, DC area. Some very cool sights, one of which is pictured above. All I could think of?
But I am le tired. Well, take a nap. Then fire ze missiles! (NSFW and all that.)
Swifteye asked...
"On the way to Ambassador, is it worth doing quests for a faction you're already exalted with?"
You'll get some spill over rep gains from whenever you gain rep with another faction-city, so no need to do more quests to make the bars line up. They will eventually.
Tusker asked..."How does a rogue poison his enemies using a mace, or a hammer? How does he apply poison to a mace in the first place?"
A lot of the time poisons are placed on weapons for a lasting effect, one that will end up killing the enemy no matter what the outcome of the immediate battle is. With a poison it'd only take one hit to kill someone, while a weapon would take several (on average). Rogues are no different in this regard, they just need to get the poison on their subject and let what happens happen.
And with this question, it's my chance to use this image of Sting, who carried poison tipped daggers in Dune. Watch for more Sting tomorrow morning.
Tim asked...
"Do instance portals work if you don't jump?"
No.
Mollyrazor asked...
"Are any wow.com columnists going to PAXEast?"
I know that Sacco is going, and since I'm on notice here's his phone number: 555-632-9127. But he's the only WoW.com person that'll be there, I think. Joystiq, our sister site, will have a crew out there, and they'll be rocking the place with the best coverage on the net (for real, their event coverage is amazing).
Andrew asked...
"When WOTLK went live Wow.com posted starting zone upgrades for each class. Will we get another starting zone upgrade when Cataclysm goes live? If so will there be a more detailed guide covering the different zones or it will focus on just one zone?"
We have a ton of content planned for Cataclysm, and a ton of great staff to do it. There are several of us who are going to be doing nothing other than focusing on Cataclysm guides soon, and starting zones are on the list. Some of the highlights: videos (tons), strategy guides (for everything), talent guides, glyph guides, zone guides (including pictures and videos, before and after Cataclysm), and hopefully some live dungeon running when the beta is up. We'll probably use something other than Ustream as well, so we can get you guys a really good picture.

My two cents on the poisoned maces:
Sure, maces don't go into the body, but they sure as heck draw blood. A LOT of blood. All you need to do is get poison in the bloodstream, and maces can accomplish that, even if they're blunt objects.
Besides, most mace models these days aren't actually hammers. They have pointy bits all over the place.

You can never go wrong with a Simpson's quote:
'Uh, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that... a wizard did it.'

And don't forget what the guy from the sewers says when you turn in the bottle of poison quest...."If even a single drop of this were to touch your skin, you'd have died an agonizing death."
Pemberton Mar 15th 2010 7:34PM
If you're not drawing blood with a mace, you aren't hitting hard enough.

Sure, blunt trauma can break the skin. You could also just factor in contact poisons. I'm imagining a cute little atomizer. :D
Ignus FireSpirit Mar 16th 2010 8:14AM
Actually a weapon wouldn't necessarily even need to break the skin, it could easily be a contact poison.

yeah I guess poison on maces is the most unrealistic thing in the game. Doesn't matter a mage shot a fireball out of his palms at the rouuge, that stuff all the time in the real world.

What's your (or anyone's, really) favorite proc or on-use effect for any piece of gear/weapon/trinket?
Docp Mar 15th 2010 6:25PM
Deathbringer's will is awesome 90% of the time and the bane of my live 10%. I love turning into some ancient creature (especially the giant Taunka) but when you quickly want to mount up and run away from something (or jump back to the safe boat on the Boat boss in ICC) and you can't because you're in shapeshift form, you'll curse that trinket.
Thyrial Mar 15th 2010 7:43PM
or you'll make a macro that cancels those buffs =P lol
and I agree.... DBW is definitely my favorite so far... Taunka ftw lol

My favorite?
"EARRRRRRTHSHAAAAKERRRRR!"
God, I loved that stupid hammer. Still do.

TENTACLES! (I imagine they come from my face:) )

Easily the cannon or dancing flute from Stratholme. Also the Furbolg one you get from getting Exalted is fun.

I wish Blizzard would make more fun trinkets.
Shapeshifting, tiny valkyrs that follow you around breaking CC and aggroing random mobs, dancing, all that stuff.
+hit with on-use increased chance to crit? BORING!
+INT with on-use increased haste? BORING!
Leave that stuff for regular gear plz, trinkets are supposed to be fun!
Honestly any trinket in game should make me be like Talon Lord Ikiss, "trinkets yesssssss pretty trinkets!"
Enough with the lame disco ball that simply shows shiny lights.
I propose a REAL disco ball that you put out during the Lady Deathwhisper encounter and for 30 seconds EVERYBODY including all mobs and the Lady stop fighting and start dancing!! Then you can go back to killing or being killed or whatever. Now THAT would be EPIC!

I always wanted to make a Blood elf rogue called Feyd, but the name always seems taken.
Croe Mar 15th 2010 6:42PM
Actually, this is a good question as many names that don't exist appear to be taken. Even completely unique names which don't appear at all in the armory will say they are taken. I've noticed this from the start.
I've tried several of them and for some reason it just doesn't work. Is there some kind of rule that when you create a name, it can't be something?
A case in point would be, for example xerraphoenix.. it tells you that name is unavailable but it is not in the armory, and I'd doubt it's a name someone has used at any time.
Anyone know the answer?
Murdock Mar 15th 2010 6:52PM
The armory only shows characters above Lvl10. So they may not show, they are being reserved or being used by bank toons.
You can always random a name, log into a server then try to add the name to your friends list. If you can, they are low level and on your faction. If you get an error 'Player must be a member of your faction' or something like that they are on the opposite.
If you want a particular name and IF that name is being reserved but the toon has NEVER logged in, you can create a ticket to a GM and you MIGHT get them to release that name for you.
Gemini Mar 15th 2010 6:56PM
Characters that are under level 10, or are inactive, don't show up on the Armory. If you don't find the player name in the armory but you REALLY want the name, petition a GM. They might free it up for you if the character has gone inactive.
