WoW Moviewatch: World of Gnomecraft 2.0

Michael Gray is feeling a little under the weather, so I've kidnapped his column. He can have it back in exchange for his puppy. Moving on, we've got one of the winners of the Alienware Rise to Power contest who's name should be familiar -- Baron Soosdon, who's delightful works such as T for Thunderfury, No Point: Stretching Time, and Sex, Gnomes And Videotape: So I Went To France have been featured before here on WoW Moviewatch. World of Gnomecraft 2.0 is another solid addition to his stable of machinima videos, and honestly, it's no wonder it was a winner.
World of Gnomecraft 2.0 is presented as a movie trailer of sorts about... well, gnomes. Gnomes that have had enough. That's really all I am going to say so as not to give anything away. This is quite possibly the most gnomes I have ever, ever seen in a machinima. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, I haven't decided yet -- but the whole piece had me cracking up about thirty seconds in. I could not stop giggling. There was no voice work to speak of, just the music and the text -- so let me point out, I love fonts. I collect fonts. I want whatever font he was using in this thing, and I am surprised I don't have it yet.
Typography geeking aside, the video itself was simply fun to watch. The effects were clean and smooth, the transitions were well done, the music went remarkably well with the subject material, and it had every ounce of visual flair I've come to expect from Baron Soosdon. Plus, gnomes -- and a cameo from King Varian Wrynn that had me in stitches. Congrats to Baron Soosdon on his prize -- he earned it.
P.S. Dear Baron, do you give lessons? I want to make pretty things. I may have a puppy to trade when Michael gets back!*
*I won't really have a puppy. :(

Normally I'm not particularly fond of the baron's work. It's generally a little too strange and my simple mind can't wrap itself around it. This one I loved. It was simple, amusing, and presents itself as a trailer, which is nice in the sense that it's short but manages to pack a lot of content in.
And yes, it would be great if gnomes could be paladins.

My train of thought: Aw come on, hasn't he been beat up enough? He spent time as a gladiator-slave, he's probably been beat up more than almost any lore char. Well, wait, so was Thrall.
Ultimate question: How many years was Thrall a slave in gladiator training, and how long was Varian overseas getting beat on?

Being gladiator was merely one of many setbacks. You conveniently forgot to mention the First War, in which Stormwind was ransacked, the murder of both his poppy and mentor etc.
Bashing King Chin is meaningless if you have no knowledge of the lore surrounding him.

Ahhh!! that was awesome indeed. If Gnomes were like that in game, I'd roll one....like right now! Seriously, fel reaver mount? Roflcopter platoons? I'm so there!

@Anne - I cant' remember what the fonts name is, but check out www.dafont.com - I might have gotten it there. I am too a big font fan and an extreme typography fascist (MS Comic Sans is a crime!).
Lessons, well - all the basics about making machinima can be found from the internet. The best place to start is to look at the "WoW Machinima Basics" here on WoW.com, it was posted sometime in 2008. I always tell every newcomer who's interested in making machinima that trial and error is the best way to go - that's how I learned. The thing I can not teach is creativity, that is something that is different for everyone.

Aw, thank you for the tips! I'll have to check that font site out - I've literally got several hundred different fonts on my computer that I use for various things, and I've never seen that one. A hunting I will go!
