As you know,
today was maintenance day and the background downloader is downloading
more data for
patch 3.3.3. However, that doesn't mean the patch itself is today. In fact, I know it's not because I logged on to my home server of Norgannon without having any of the patch data downloaded yet, and checked to make sure
Revenge wasn't improved yet. It's not. No patch today. Sad face.
This is standard procedure for the weeks leading up to a patch: as much of the data as can be loaded before it actually drops is sent out to reduce the strain of thousands upon thousands of people all trying to log on and download the whole patch in one go. While it does mean we're possibly close to seeing 3.3.3, with me personally willing to bet before the end of the month, that day is not today.

"This is standard procedure for the weeks leading up to a patch:"
While this statement is hyper-technically accurate I honestly can't remember when, if ever, we have seen this type of activity for a *minor* patch. For a major one, like 3.1 or 3.3, yes. But for a minor patch it's a head scratcher.
I can only think there is more to this patch than is being let on and Blizzard doesn't want to call it patch 3.4 out of respect to the lich king.

The last push contained some of the building blocks for 3.3.5, so this one probably does too.
I'm guessing 3.3.3 is just due some final tweaks and we'll see the patch next week if the bugs are all ironed out. I'm also guessing the 3.3.5 PTR with the new raid will go up pretty quickly once 3.3.3 is out.
One last prognostication - 3.3.5 will go live around the end of April and the Cataclysm beta will start to appear mid-June...

Mmmm...Beta...hope I get in again!

3.3.3 going live the week of my birthday, (it's the first weekend of April) would be a nice bday present.. :D
Here's to hoping...

This patch changes many small technical things, e.g. the BG marks change. There's a lot that can go wrong there, as seen by the many PTR builds and the apparent bugs on there.
Then again, most of what is preloaded is static data, most prominently the sounds of the Echo Isles/Gnomeregan events, which just happens to be included in the game with this patch, though is probably intended for 3.5 or even a later patch (to not collide with the release of the Ruby Sanctum)

Ok, this was supposed to go below Daniel's comment, but a reply only takes me to the #thankyou page, a press on the back button cancelled the reply mode :B

aww... Norgannon. my old realm. How I miss you...
Jaddedyn Mar 16th 2010 6:26PM
Still loving me some Norgannon. :D Havn't left it yet.
MightyMuffin Mar 17th 2010 12:43AM
That's what I was saying when I read that statement. Norgannon is awesome, have 3 of my 4 80s on it. The other one I moved to be with some friends on Misha, but my mains will always be on Norgannon.
*sigh* too bad I'm taking a break from WoW in order to focus on school work...real life is a bummer when you are enjoying the game :'(.

Good, now I have another week to figure out which glyph I'm going to drop for the new Icebound Fortitude.

Can I just ask who is on the Blizzard logo, I know the two on on the outside are The Lich King and Azshara but who is the one in the middle? It looks like a mutated orc of somekind.
Leviathon Mar 16th 2010 5:02PM
Uh...that's Kerrigan not Azshara and that's Diablo in the middle.
Hollow Leviathan Mar 16th 2010 6:41PM
The man with my name misspelled is right. Blizz has other worlds, you know!
the_rage_of_trebor Mar 16th 2010 5:14PM
oh my bad

I play on a MAC: is it just me or do these patches repeatedly try to redownload for othermac users too? I am aware these patches come in parts but what I mean is the single part will keep popping up the background downloader even after I have it.
