The Queue: Little things
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
I feel I've done one of these far too recently to do another one so quickly, but we're going to do another listening music day anyway. In yesterday's Blood Sport, Colby introduced me to Pomplamoose, a musical duo from Youtube. Considering most of my procrastination hours are spent on YouTube, I am amazed I've never heard of them before, but they are great. Plus the girl is way cute. She practically emits that kitty face emote when she talks. Seriously.
So today's listening music is Pomplamoose's Little Things.
Grumbly Stuff asked...
"What's your (or anyone's, really) favorite proc or on-use effect for any piece of gear/weapon/trinket?"
Shard of the Fallen Star is the best item in the game, without a doubt. I don't care that it's effectively useless, you're calling a freaking meteor down from the sky with it and that's awesome.
Before I changed mains, it was also my raid's good luck charm for a few years. I always used it on bosses we were struggling on just when it started to feel right and would drop a meteor on the boss's head to let them know it's business time. This is what my raid leader wrote on our guild site after our first Illidan kill, no lie:
Kar asked...The power is undeniable.
We couldn't figure it out - we had been wiping, little things going wrong that turned into big things going wrong, people panicking, bad luck. All of it combining to thwart our attempts to defeat Illidan time and time again.
Then Alex equipped... THE trinket.
He died that go, and it wasn't even close. I swear to God, this is a true "I win" trinket. When we go into Sunwell, we'll be through it in about 10 minutes, tops.
"Why can death knights use maces? Maces aren't runeblades."
I'm pretty sure it's purely an itemization thing. It would be lame to make a class that primarily uses 2Handers, and then lock them out of a significant portion of those items. Pretty much the same reason they ended up giving rogues axes in this expansion.
Rofle asked...
"What's with your AOL Radio ads?"
None of us actually knew we had radio ads until you guys mentioned it. Who knows? Adam and I are currently on a quest to find it. I'm listening to AOL Radio's Game Scores station hoping to catch it. I didn't even know we had something like that.
You learn something new every day.
SomnambulistArygos asked...
"I have a question that I was musing on that I wanna see The Queue tackle - in the (soon) three expansions we've killed Arthas, Illidan, and (soon) Deathwing. Any predictions what might come for expansion four? I've seen Emerald Dream bandied about, but really, is there anything else besides that, or are they gonna run out of canon?"
They can pretty much do anything they want, including come up with brand new lore. Who knows, expansion four might be completely new villains that have been coughed up by the Cataclysm. But as far as the existing stable goes, there's still Azshara, more Old Gods, I don't think we'll be killing off all of the Elemental Lords in Cataclysm (though we might be), and the Burning Legion is most certainly not gone. Kil'jaeden is still perfectly alive, not to mention Sargeras.
The Emerald Dream seems... more and more unlikely to happen. Like, ever.

Someone didn't like the music and was trying to be clever. And their word of the day was apparently "Ubiquitous".
Eddy Mar 16th 2010 8:11PM
I mean, I think they're somewhat... generic alternative, at least their original stuff. But that doesn't mean they're bad- I think they're a pretty good example of a genre.
But I like watching their stuff, and some of their covers are really fun. I might like their covers better than some of their originals.

I enjoyed the song at the top of the post; it's a good pop tune with a good lyrical hook. In fact, it's refreshing to hear a song modestly stated about love that's going well.
Charging musicians with lack of originality is easy to do (it's ubiquitous, even); if one likes a musician, one calls it an "influence." Anymore I only really care if I enjoy it. Whether it's the music itself or the charm of their video presentation, I enjoyed this.
So, thank you for posting it, Alex.

The point is you can listen to dozens of alternative bands with female vocalists who sound *just* like she does. Their lyrics aren't terribly thoughtful or catchy and she always looks like she's deliberately trying to look bored/tired/who knows. I said ubiquitous because it applies here, both concerning her look (I live in a city so I see enough hipsters to choke the Grand Canyon and 90% of the females look like this) and her voice, which I've already stated, seems to come from everywhere alternative radio is played. It's also quite a popular vocal style for commercials which speaks volumes about its appeal. There. Straightforward enough? I ratcheted down the clever so as not to seem like I'm trying to be clever. Did it work? /eyeroll
p.s. there are plenty of male vocalists out there as well that I share the same detached dislike for, for very similar reasons. they're neither challenging or exciting to listen to. it's like listening to paint dry.

Is there a way for Horde characters to attack Horde NPCs? I'd like to pay my respects to Garrosh sometime.
The only way I knew of - the Test of Lore debuff - was patched out ages ago.

PFCx2 IMO

Ooh - what if in the 4th expansion they went *into* Azeroth? As in, Journey to the Center of the World kinda thing? Discover a new race of (playable?) deep-deep dwarves who have never even considered such a crazy thing as "outside". Instead of flying about above Azeroth, mounts would tunnel or phase through the very earth and stone of the world itself. We would battle the essence of the elements themselves, awaken sleeping ancients and discover strange and amorphous new beings who dwell deep within the earth, or the bottoms of the sea.
Of course, I'm a dwarf lover so I dig this.

Fortunately for you, it seems Cataclysm will have underwater exploration and I'm pretty sure that one of the zones is underground (please someone confirm/deny this).
Also, the archeology profession should make you feel like a real live Bronzebeard.
Oh yeah, and I'm assuming "dig" was an intended pun there. ;)

At the risk of aggroing WoWPETA trolls, here's a question that's popped into my mind each time I fly into Stormwind:
What's the story behind the gryphon nested right outside the Stormwind City flightmaster? Does it even have a name? The poor guy (or girl) seems to have no purpose other than serving to break the fall of every toon that comes flying off the wall above it (one never takes damage if you land on it). If you look closely it seems it's eventually been smooshed into it's nest from all the flying leaps from which it's absorbed damage. What's up with that?
Zhiva Mar 16th 2010 3:18PM
And then there is that well right in front of descent from gryphon roost. No wonder the nobles didn't pay the Defias.
Kriegle Mar 16th 2010 5:40PM
The Gryphon's name is Henry Hodgekiss, he's 36 years old (in Gryphon years) and a Libra.
He enjoys long flights over the beach, eating rodents, and being made out of two animals. His wife Penelope left him recently because of his crippling titmouse addiction, so he was forced to take the job of security guard outside the Stormwind Gryphon roost. Every day Henry stays still... motionless save for a slight movement of the head or wings, so small that even the keenest-eyed observer will swear he didn't move at at all. Patiently he sits, absorbing the g-forces of the Alliance's collective ass as it plummets onto his head from above. What is he planning? We'll have to wait and see.
Sorry.

@Kriegle

I had a real life chum give me grief after rolling on and winning Mag'hari Chieftan's Staff during a PuG'd ICC-10 run. I had beat a healer for it and his argument was that DPS casters get to roll on +hit gear and regular caster gear, while healers only get to roll on regular caster gear, so I should have given the healer priority on the item (even though it's perfectly itemized for Shadow Priests).
I asked about healers getting priority on mp5 gear and his response was that it was completely useless and that he never runs out of mana. I understand that mana is pretty much a non-issue these days, but are healers actively avoiding rolling on mp5 gear? Is it really that useless a stat these days?
Neirin Mar 16th 2010 2:46PM
While healers don't avoid MP5 like DPS do, they will pretty much always go for other stats. It's a little like hit rating once you're 5% above hit cap anyway - all it does is drain your gear's item budget.
Cyrus Mar 16th 2010 3:09PM
I think I'm using that staff on my balance druid, for both dps and healing. I have all the hit rating I need from other gear - at ilvl 245, for a balance druid, druid, it only takes like three pieces of gear to get to the cap - and it has more spell power and haste than my ToC items, so it was definitely a strict upgrade.

I agree, I love how much of a gem the reference is to people who like the movie!
