The Queue: Little things
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
I feel I've done one of these far too recently to do another one so quickly, but we're going to do another listening music day anyway. In yesterday's Blood Sport, Colby introduced me to Pomplamoose, a musical duo from Youtube. Considering most of my procrastination hours are spent on YouTube, I am amazed I've never heard of them before, but they are great. Plus the girl is way cute. She practically emits that kitty face emote when she talks. Seriously.
So today's listening music is Pomplamoose's Little Things.
Grumbly Stuff asked...
"What's your (or anyone's, really) favorite proc or on-use effect for any piece of gear/weapon/trinket?"
Shard of the Fallen Star is the best item in the game, without a doubt. I don't care that it's effectively useless, you're calling a freaking meteor down from the sky with it and that's awesome.
Before I changed mains, it was also my raid's good luck charm for a few years. I always used it on bosses we were struggling on just when it started to feel right and would drop a meteor on the boss's head to let them know it's business time. This is what my raid leader wrote on our guild site after our first Illidan kill, no lie:
Kar asked...The power is undeniable.
We couldn't figure it out - we had been wiping, little things going wrong that turned into big things going wrong, people panicking, bad luck. All of it combining to thwart our attempts to defeat Illidan time and time again.
Then Alex equipped... THE trinket.
He died that go, and it wasn't even close. I swear to God, this is a true "I win" trinket. When we go into Sunwell, we'll be through it in about 10 minutes, tops.
"Why can death knights use maces? Maces aren't runeblades."
I'm pretty sure it's purely an itemization thing. It would be lame to make a class that primarily uses 2Handers, and then lock them out of a significant portion of those items. Pretty much the same reason they ended up giving rogues axes in this expansion.
Rofle asked...
"What's with your AOL Radio ads?"
None of us actually knew we had radio ads until you guys mentioned it. Who knows? Adam and I are currently on a quest to find it. I'm listening to AOL Radio's Game Scores station hoping to catch it. I didn't even know we had something like that.
You learn something new every day.
SomnambulistArygos asked...
"I have a question that I was musing on that I wanna see The Queue tackle - in the (soon) three expansions we've killed Arthas, Illidan, and (soon) Deathwing. Any predictions what might come for expansion four? I've seen Emerald Dream bandied about, but really, is there anything else besides that, or are they gonna run out of canon?"
They can pretty much do anything they want, including come up with brand new lore. Who knows, expansion four might be completely new villains that have been coughed up by the Cataclysm. But as far as the existing stable goes, there's still Azshara, more Old Gods, I don't think we'll be killing off all of the Elemental Lords in Cataclysm (though we might be), and the Burning Legion is most certainly not gone. Kil'jaeden is still perfectly alive, not to mention Sargeras.
The Emerald Dream seems... more and more unlikely to happen. Like, ever.

Before the recent Darrowmere exodus, there was a guild on there called . I never got around to it, but anytime I saw a member in Dalaran, I wanted to ask to join and then show my Six Demon Bag as proof that I belonged! Yes sir, the check is in the mail.
jeffbr Mar 16th 2010 6:55PM
Oops, tried to enclose the guild's name in angle brackets... muttering...damn noob commenters. Anyway, it was call 'The Porkchop Express'.

The best proc in the game is the Arcanite Ripper...hands down.
That thing will always be in my bank for those times I want to rock peoples' faces off.
8-)

Question:
Do we know what infrastructure changes may be made to smooth out connectivity issues which invariably hang around a month or so after an expansion launch? Have they said anything on the subject at this point? My guess is no, but thought I'd ask, since the comparatively un-sexy infrastructure part doesn't get discussed much.

Deathbringer's Will has to be my new favorite proc, especially once I added it to my heroic tanking set (tank with 5-6k dps lol). Nothing says

I would like to start a petition that we all refer to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm as MEOWCAT, which is an evolution of the still funny WoW-Cat.
Please sign below in the affirmative or negative to support MEOWCAT. Only one response is needed to pass this measure.
Thank you.
This message brought to you by the "MEOWCAT is the 3rd Warcraft Expansion Committee"

Alex, you prove that not all WoW gamers are nerds. Thanks for sharing Pomplamoose. I'd never heard of them before, but I think I'm in love. P.S. You have good taste in music. :)

Theres SO MUCH stuff yet to be added in Vanilla wow. While doing the explorer achiev ive seen some crazy stuff like all the emerald portals, the huge entrance to Timbermaw hold (no not the lil blocked off passage, i'm talking about the HUGE gate in Azshara), tons of ruins with blocked off entrances (Grim batol in wetlands). Blizz added tons of places for content but have yet to "add" it in, who knows! maybe that one crappy area that seems like nothings there will be a whole new raid! (Remember that ZG area before it was a raid?)
Maybe even revamped BWL, AQ, or MC? why kill off good content when you can make it playable (as in not lv60) for those who never got a a chance to experience it?
There was already tons of content in the old world that has yet to open!

I'm really hoping for more to do with the Silithids and Quiraji.
They are just too much fun!

I have no idea what this post is about, but I'm getting a little weirded out seeing a band that played at my local laundromat (BrainWash, no joke) on this site twice in two days.
They're amazing for a youtube cover band. it's almost a shame they're not interested in being anything "more" for now, I think they could be really successful.

"The Emerald Dream seems... more and more unlikely to happen. Like, ever."
Sounds like a challenge to me.
Blizzard, if you are reading this....I dare you to prove him wrong!
Brendan Mar 16th 2010 2:51PM
What's with these 2 beatnik's and their off key music?
Hangk Mar 16th 2010 3:51PM
"Beatniks"? Seriously? Are you connecting to the Internet from 1958?
Hey, spoiler warning, but Kennedy beats Nixon and then he gets shot. And then we go to the Moon. For reals!

I really hope the Emerald Dream/Nightmare/whatever will not get an expansion of its own.
All the lore says that it's druid-only, allowing warriors, rogues, mages etc. go there and stroll around would be like taking a huge dump on the lore.
Not to mention, from a gameplay perspective, the Emerald Dream can only be reached by... dreaming. So whenever you "woke up" you would not wear and of the cool stuff you got there etc. Unless they also f*cked that part up too.
If they really want to implement the dream, make it a raid encounter with the stuff only dropping from the real body of the boss that you reach once you defeat him in the dream, or whatever.
As for other baddies... I don't know, taking on Azshara AFTER Deathwing would feel like a huge step back. I really hope they don't do that.
Arthas feels more powerful/epic than Illidan, Deathwing feels more epic than Arthas even. Azshara, imo, is around the Arthas/Illidan level, it makes no sense to have her pose a real challenge after we defeated Deathwing. He always was the most powerful aspect, even when sane. Then he got insane and even more powerful, then "empowered" by the old gods and even more so. He's a goddamn powerhouse.
Imo the only real step up or at least sidegrade from Deathwing would be the single remaining Old God and after that a new Burning Crusade expansion that takes us to the homeworld of the Legion where we kill Kil'Jaeden somewhere in the middle of the expansion and Sargeras at the very end.

I've no doubt that we'll be travelling to Argas, ancient home of the Draenei and base of operations for the Burning Legion, in some future expansion. I really want to see more Draenei content... We went to Draenor, which had a major Draenei presence when it came to civil matters (Shattrath). Okay, fine, but the Orcs are Draenor born and bred... and they had nothing. A couple instances in Hellfire. Who did the expansion focus on the most? The Naga, a race of mutated night elves from Azeroth. The Blood Elves, mutated night elves from Azeroth. Illidan, a mutated night elf from Azeroth. And Kil'jaeden, but he was fought primarily by an army composed of Draenei and Blood Elves. Yay, Draenei! But was entirely within Blood Elf territory and the Draenei kind of took a back seat in focus.
And then we went to Northrend to fight some Scourge, and some Titans for a little while. Okay, but see that magnificent floating city? IT'S RUN BY ELVES!
Is anyone else sick of elves?
nonentity Mar 16th 2010 3:30PM
uhm.... huh?
Why do you think Argus is the base of operations for the Burning Legion? I don't recall it was ever said this way. Imo Argus was exploited as much as possible and then left behind.
How was Kil'Jaeden fought primarily by an armoy composed of Draenei and Blood Elves?
Dalaran is not run by elves... in fact the Kirin Tor, the guys who are actually running Dalaran, have just reluctantly accepted the Blood Elves back.
As for the Blood/High Elf guards, I don't think that qualifies for "running things". They are not at all present in the Sewers of Dalaran, not present in the non-Horde/Alliance sections and even there they are just standing around.

Glad I'm not the only one catching Grapefruit fever now. (Pomplamoose is French for Grapefruit) I've been listening to their stuff on youtube most of the day since reading the Blood Sport article.

I once imagined an expansion focusing on the Infinite Dragonflight as the primary villain, expanding the Cavern of Time into a full continent - ancient Kalimdor, shortly before the Sundering. Such an expansion would focus heavily on the most influential races of that era: Highbourne elves, Tauren, Trolls, and Pandaren. This would also be heavily tied to the Emerald Dream, being that it exists as Azeroth without advanced culture (and thus would be geographically identical to Azeroth pre-Sundering), which wouldn't exist as a whole continent but perhaps a zone or raid.
