The Queue: Little things
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
I feel I've done one of these far too recently to do another one so quickly, but we're going to do another listening music day anyway. In yesterday's Blood Sport, Colby introduced me to Pomplamoose, a musical duo from Youtube. Considering most of my procrastination hours are spent on YouTube, I am amazed I've never heard of them before, but they are great. Plus the girl is way cute. She practically emits that kitty face emote when she talks. Seriously.
So today's listening music is Pomplamoose's Little Things.
Grumbly Stuff asked...
"What's your (or anyone's, really) favorite proc or on-use effect for any piece of gear/weapon/trinket?"
Shard of the Fallen Star is the best item in the game, without a doubt. I don't care that it's effectively useless, you're calling a freaking meteor down from the sky with it and that's awesome.
Before I changed mains, it was also my raid's good luck charm for a few years. I always used it on bosses we were struggling on just when it started to feel right and would drop a meteor on the boss's head to let them know it's business time. This is what my raid leader wrote on our guild site after our first Illidan kill, no lie:
Kar asked...The power is undeniable.
We couldn't figure it out - we had been wiping, little things going wrong that turned into big things going wrong, people panicking, bad luck. All of it combining to thwart our attempts to defeat Illidan time and time again.
Then Alex equipped... THE trinket.
He died that go, and it wasn't even close. I swear to God, this is a true "I win" trinket. When we go into Sunwell, we'll be through it in about 10 minutes, tops.
"Why can death knights use maces? Maces aren't runeblades."
I'm pretty sure it's purely an itemization thing. It would be lame to make a class that primarily uses 2Handers, and then lock them out of a significant portion of those items. Pretty much the same reason they ended up giving rogues axes in this expansion.
Rofle asked...
"What's with your AOL Radio ads?"
None of us actually knew we had radio ads until you guys mentioned it. Who knows? Adam and I are currently on a quest to find it. I'm listening to AOL Radio's Game Scores station hoping to catch it. I didn't even know we had something like that.
You learn something new every day.
SomnambulistArygos asked...
"I have a question that I was musing on that I wanna see The Queue tackle - in the (soon) three expansions we've killed Arthas, Illidan, and (soon) Deathwing. Any predictions what might come for expansion four? I've seen Emerald Dream bandied about, but really, is there anything else besides that, or are they gonna run out of canon?"
They can pretty much do anything they want, including come up with brand new lore. Who knows, expansion four might be completely new villains that have been coughed up by the Cataclysm. But as far as the existing stable goes, there's still Azshara, more Old Gods, I don't think we'll be killing off all of the Elemental Lords in Cataclysm (though we might be), and the Burning Legion is most certainly not gone. Kil'jaeden is still perfectly alive, not to mention Sargeras.
The Emerald Dream seems... more and more unlikely to happen. Like, ever.

What's gonna happen to The Knights of the Ebon Blade once Cataclysm rolls around?

I really despair at the way Blizzard ignore factional balance. I play on the EU Azuremyst server where the ratio is 0.27:1 in favour of alliance. When it comes to doing WG or things like doing the weekly quest for herb pouches in wintergrasp I have to wait until allies are bored which is often early in the morning or late at night.
Question: Isn't there some way blizzard could prevent people from creating or transferring a character for one faction or the other when there is such a bias. Why doesn't it do something to address these problems earlier? It takes so much enjoyment out of that part of the game for me.
Hoggersbud Mar 16th 2010 9:57PM
Actually sometimes they do. Sometimes they have one faction free transfers off one server or another.

Why is it that when I was tanking on my Warrior in the Classic instances I was all good and was ripping it up with health to spare, and yet the moment I get a couple of gear upgrades and then hit up the TBC Instances I wipe on the first pulls... every... single... time?

Thank you for another day of Pompaloose music. Jack is a lucky man - Nataly is hot and talented.

Is there a way to tell if different characters are from the same account? For example, can my friends see that my alts are from the same account as my main?

Down to Page 7 already, but worth asking I think:
What can I do as a Guild Leader to help prevent the hacking of members, and equally importantly, after the unfortunate event has taken place?
We're a guild hovering around the 50 account mark, and have had 3 hacking in as many months. Guild Log and GB screenies taken and sent to members in question, tickets raised, but am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks for your time if you answer :)

Also, and totally unrelated. I'm levelling a new resto druid through LFG (l25 at the moment), any essential add-ons I should be getting my head round before I have to do something vaguely important in a couple of months time? Using Xperl for UI currently.

Didn't anybody notice this? The first question specifically asks the favorite "NO-USE" or "PROC" piece of gear. The one Alex mentioned is a "USE" trinket.
Not to bash the cool little story, but I really wanted to see his fave proc...
Skadja Mar 17th 2010 10:41AM
That's not No-Use, it's ON-Use.

Any idea on why the wowarmory guild bank logs are still out of date? It's been a month now. I've tried emailing and posting myself, but I still haven't found any word on why it's broken and when it might be fixed. My only hunch is that it could be due to some of the work they're doing to make an auction house app a possibility. Which means if the guild bank is part of that, then that app will have some pretty big ramifications.

With the advent of the latest legendary being unlocked, it got me thinking. In the print manual that comes with Vanilla it states that their is one type of item superior then Legendary-Artifacts. It also states that they are limited to just (1) per realm, and none are in the game yet. Am I mistaken on this or is this yet another thing from Vanilla that never got implemented? And if they have, what are they?

Were Blood Elves Immortal, i seem to remember they were still with the NE when the World Tree was blessed, so theoretically they should have been?
Wulfkin Mar 17th 2010 1:49PM
Death Knights use maces because they're Runehammers. Its a pretty standard concept for me, and an established one in other lore. To be honest they could maybe have gone for Runestaves as well, Esienhorn-style.

I am trying to gear a lvl 80 Enhance Shawman. I am using MaxDPS to give me an idea of the gear I should be working towards. I am looking at Triumph and 5-man stuff cause that is what I run. I have a couple of questions.
1- There are several pieces of spellcaster gear listed. For example the Hammer of Purified Flame is listed as ~1.5 dps above Black Icicle. Now I know that we use an awful lot of spells for a melee, but is a caster weapon really going to be a dps increase?
2- I always understood that hit was not that important for us. I am a draenei with dual wield spec. I thought that my hit cap was ~33, the soft cap since most of our dam is white or windfury. Why is MaxDPS posting weapons with high hit so prominent over things with crit and haste? Do I need to shoot for the spell hit cap as well?
Thank you for any info you can provide.

I was looking into how cross-faction chat does/will work and managed to tie myself in a confusion knot.
So my question (though I might have to re-ask it in the next Queue given this one was posted a couple of days ago) that'll probably be easily answered by a fellow-commenter:
Does Battle.net (2) already allow us to talk to people in a different faction or will that get introduced with Cataclysm?
