I have a level 80 priest alt. Leveled him Shadow- will probably use him for 5-mans and (maybe) light raid off-heals. Should I offspec Disc or Holy? Also, what's a fella got to do to get a drink in this place?

now i have never played a priest past lvl 30, but my understanding is that in a raid scenario, disc is best for single target healign (i.e. tank healing) and holy is good for aoe/raid healing. In 5 mans, both are fully capable of healing almost any fight with no problem. So if you want to be an "occasional off heal" i would recommend you went Holy.

Raid: HolyDisc is for tank healing, you'll drain your mana trying to keep a tank in holy spec

Both are capable specs for what you want to use them for, so you should try both of the specs out and choose whichever one you find most fun.

Ultimately, I recommend trying both and finding which one you enjoy most. Both are fully capable 5-man healers in every way, but if you seriously intend to raid it (generally) boils down to: take Holy for raid heals, Disc for tank heals. That's not saying you can't switch it up and bubble spam on the raid as Disc, or pump Serendipity'd GHeals into the MT, but in practice... you probably will not be asked to.But yeah, Disc focuses more on preventing damage, Holy more on healing it. Disc has pretty powerful single-target heals (Penance is the only channeled healing spell I can think of, not counting bandages or lock spells), while Holy has amazing multi-target heals. Both are fully viable for light play though, and you should pick whichever you have more fun with.

I'd offer the following suggestion: If you tend to be a reactive player (something happens and you do something in response) then go holy. If you tend to be a proactive player (you do something so that something else bad doesn't happen later) then go disc.

I raid as Disc, and I can tell you that I've never had any problems healing 5-mans as Disc and preferred it even when I was dual spec Disc/Holy. Especially when starting out with a fresh 80 you'll have a deeper mana pool as Disc, and more efficient flash heals which will be your bread and butter heal for a while. Tactics are keep shields up on any non-Pally tank. For Paladins, no shields, but keep bouncing Prayer of Mending off of them on cooldown and keep Renew active. You should do the same with other tanks, but shields interfere with Pally mana regen, and makes them cranky. Oh, and Penance is the most beautiful, oh sh*t tank-healing spell in the game. Use it in panic moments and during predictable spike damage. Spot heal with flash heal and in the rare occasion where you have groupwide aoe damage to deal with, drop shields on everybody and then use the borrowed time haste buff to cast a prayer of healing. See elitist jerks for specs, glyphs etc. Enjoy the fast queue times!

If your raids/guild have a surplus of single-target healers (holy pallies, mostly) or raid heals (shammies, druids), I'd go with the complementary spec to round things out (disc for single-target, holy for raid heals). One thing to note, if you already play with a disc healer in your raids, more than one disc healer is a liability in a raid. They are the only healing class where more than one actually reduces healing ability, because of Weakened Soul.

As to your second question: If you're referring to Undercity, we, the Forsaken, find the blood of our enemies to be much more intoxicating than mere liquor.

Drop shadow, do both! I like Disc better for 5 mans myself.

I would recommend trying Holy first, especially if you're completely new to healing. For five-mans, which you'll most likely cut your teeth in, it provides a lot more "oh shit" buttons than Disc, with 3 spells that are AOE heals, group heals, or both. Plus Prayer of Mending flying around, proccing like crazy.Once you're comfortable with Holy switch over to Disc and have fun bubblin' fools and shooting swirly golden lazer beams into them. As for when you off heal in raids, it depends. Holy is a beast on groups, and Disc is a beast on tanks, but both can really do either.Hope at least something there helped. :)
