I rarely notice buffs when I'm running heroic dungeons. Granted, every buff helps in maximizing DPS or survivability, but I personally don't find it really
necessary. Do you absolutely
have to have
Blessings of Kings or a
Prayer of Fortitude? I've had players who have absolutely refused to pull until they get all the buffs they want. I'm sitting there looking at their health and their gear and it isn't like they're fresh 80s or anything. We're talking tier 9 level stuff or higher. I don't think having
Dalaran Brilliance is going to shave off a significant amount of time in a run personally.
Now when it comes to raiding, I make sure I have everything. On progression raids, I always check to make sure every buff that is available is active. At the same time, I'm a little more relaxed about it when taking on trash. I don't drop a
Fish Feast for the trash leading to Lord Marrowgar, for example. I wait until we get to the boss itself before laying out one of these.
What? The feasts are expensive!
Anyway, what about you guys? Do you require every buff before tackling anything in a heroic? Are there certain buffs you can live without during raids?

People always ask me for Gift of the Wild if I forget to buff them, so I usually just compromise and manually put Mark of the Wild on everyone. Heroics never last longer than thirty minutes anyways, and group buffs always fall off when you leave a group, so why spend the money on those reagents when the ghetto versions of the buffs accomplish the *exact* same thing?

I'm too lazy to target-click-push-button 5 times, if I can even find the darn single target spell in my spell book.
In the time I'm doing that, I probably could've killed a mob and looted 50 silver.
That's just me though.
Speedmonkay Mar 18th 2010 10:46AM
Usually I try to remember to throw up GotW for everyone but half the time I forget because its not that big of a deal in heroics. One run in VH someone missed the buff and needed it. He asked a couple times and I missed it because I was too busy healing. Then he started getting ridiculous - asking repeatedly in an annoying way, /slap and other emotes, and even going as far to call me a gold farmer just because I chose not to respond to him. It was driving him nuts not having MotW. I gave it to him ... right before the dragon died.
No buffs arent totally neccessary in heroics if you are way overgeared. And it sure is fun to make people squirm when they think they are :)

"and group buffs always fall off when you leave a group"
Hmm no they don't? Auras will, but not paladin's Blessings, or druid's GoTW. Priests and Mages buff will also remain (but i don't know if they have group versions or if they have to apply it to each individual)
Eyhk Mar 18th 2010 10:53AM
Chilliea, yes they do.
Try it next time.
Even when I group for TFA/CIT and recieve a group buff (not the single target), it is removed when you leave group. I believe Blizzard changed it so you don't have buff bots waiting outside raids to make sure everybody has every kind of buff. Even if you buff a talented buff and then change specs, the buff falls off.
Wowcoholic Mar 18th 2010 10:57AM
Group/Party-wide buffs fall off if you or the buffer leave group. Always. Ghetto buffs remain.
@ Speedmonkay: In referrence to asking for buffs and not giving it to them, that's just kinda dumb. If someone asks for a buff, click your button and continue on your merry way....you said you didnt give someone GotW because it's just a heroic and they didnt need it, and you were too busy healing. You have HoTs....and you've stated that "it's just a heroic"...how much healing were you doing? Did it really take all your attention? One click could have alleviated 25 minutes of an annoyance...
Speedmonkay Mar 18th 2010 11:35AM
I said I didnt see him ask because I was healing and not looking at chat. By the time I noticed he had already gotten to the point of ridiculous, so I continued what I was doing.
It wasnt an aggravation to me; it was actually entertainment because who really gets that worked up over a single little buff ?
Hoggersbud Mar 18th 2010 12:09PM
>it was actually entertainment because who really gets that worked up over a single little buff ?<
Far too many people. I had a rogue do his threat dump on me because he didn't get Might despite there being a warrior present to shout.

I use 10 min paly buffs, and if someone complains for the 30 min buff I say to them you had better be flasked
TR Mar 18th 2010 12:34PM
@Eyhk
No they don't. At least not when it comes to instances, and I've verified this with players in my guild and on my realm. In fact, I noticed this so consistently that I'm in the habit of rebuffing /everyone/ in my PUG with Arcane Brilliance after we kill the boss. It stays with me as does GotW when I've left. If I try to cast Arcane Intellect before the Arcane Brilliance timer is 30 minutes or less, I'll get a message that a stronger spell is in effect.
Wowcoholic Mar 18th 2010 12:54PM
@TR: ....SELF BUFFS (if you're a mage and you cast brilliance) do not go away, unless they time out, or you change specs....and I'm pretty sure drums stay on as well, your comment is kinda in the R-O-N-G! (spelled incorrectly for effect)
Draelan Mar 18th 2010 3:15PM
So much confusion over the group buffs... Let me clear things up:
Single target buffs will not wear off when you leave group.
Group target buffs will wear off when you leave group.
HOWEVER there is an exception. If the time remaining on the group target buff is less than or equal to the time of a single target buff (I.E. you only have 30 minutes or less remaining on your GotW) when you leave the group, you will NOT lose the buff.
And, of course, buffs you give yourself will not wear off when you leave group. (Since you're always "grouped" with yourself!)
Eveleaf Mar 18th 2010 7:54PM
Group buffs will disappear even if you do not *leave group*, but only *zone out.*
Zone out to repair, to quest while you wait for a replacement, anything, and your group buffs will disappear and need to be reapplied. Even if you stay in group while you teleport out.
To further confuse the issue, a soulstone applied to a party member other than yourself (say, to your healer) will also vanish if he leaves the instance. Even if he remains in party at the time.

Anyone who doesnt buff is just being selfish and ignorant, the buffs are there for a reason they buff your stats IMMENSELY. Are they needed, no. Are they nice and do they speed the run up, YES. So just bloody do it.
The worst offenders are paladins, trying to ask for them in 5man heroics for buffs is like pulling out your own teeth. Yes im a mage that can do 8k+ dps on heroic bosses the buffs arent needed but its the principle if you cant be arsed to buff the group and speed up the group well then i dont want you in my party, generally neither do the other 3 people and you can only hide behind your unkickable status for 15 mins after that your out.
On another note WTB the old 5man system back not being able to kick slackers for 15 mins is getting old FAST!
Niallus Mar 18th 2010 8:09AM
If a buff like Fort, Brilliance or MOTW is available, of course I want it! Anything that improves my performance improves my groups performance.
When it comes to things like pally buffs though, I don't mind so much. There is no need for a pally to waste their mats in a heroic for the greater blessings, and rebuffing every ten minutes (even with the ultra quick heroics of today) is a frigging nightmare. If you can't be arsed with it, I'm not gonna make you!
That said, Crusader Aura? No excuse.
Ryan Mar 18th 2010 8:28AM
Agreed about arcane brilliance.
I think the absolute base line is, if it's a buff that will ensure a completed, swift run (ie. Mana regen) then apply it.
Personally I like to buff up (disc. priest) as much as I can in the begining. Those who snuff it, I apply the "ghetto" versions upon rez. The cost for reagents is really nominal, remembering to stock up it what trips me.
Joe Mar 18th 2010 8:51AM
If your a paladin, get the addon Pally Power... makes buffing extremely easy... as for reagents, well by the time you get to the first boss, you will have made your gold back plus some.
Vladeon Mar 18th 2010 9:56AM
As a Paladin, I would much rather use greater blessing of whatever that lasts 30 min. than keep rebuffing reg on everyone every ten min. Especially when I can get 100 symbols of kings (the mats) for 1g50s. The way I see it is that if you're in a heroic and there's a pally there, there really isn't any reason why you shouldn't have the pally buffs. What gets me is when some classes ask for the wrong pally buff, such as a dps DK asking for kings when he'll get more out of might (does he really need that extra intelligence, spirit, stamina and agility? the only stat that gives him any increase in his dps would be strength, and agility to a lesser extent. But 130 str. does not equal 550 attack power, does it?).
I'll only lay down a fish feast if we've got one of the newer dungeons or if I notice the tank or healer has less than they ought to in order to make the dungeon go smoothly.
Ryan Mar 18th 2010 10:56AM
Another thing while technically not a buff, speaking as a healer.
In the scenario where is only one wipe recovery player (ie. the healer) and there is a Warlock. IF Soulstone is off cool-down pretty pretty please apply it the healer. Yes it's "only a 5 man heroic". But wiping takes up time could all be using to run another "only a 5 man heroic".
I haven't leveled a Warlock, so perhaps I'm missing something. Does your keyboard electrocute you when you apply Soulstone to another player?
Cor Mar 18th 2010 11:40AM
When I tank I like the buffs but don't need them and won't hold up a run for them.
When I pally heal I give buffs because I like to get buffs, but I don't hold up a run for them. I use greater blessings because mats are cheap and I don't like having to constantly refreash buffs.
