I find it funny that Alterac Volley starts off by pretty stressing, "You want to pick your class and not the one that people say is best!" then follows up by saying that the priest and the warrior are the best healing or tank/dps class respectively.

AV, your guide for newbies fails.
Priests are NOT the best healing class in the game.
Warriors are NOT the best tanking class in the game.
That title would go to Paladins - er, all healing classes and tanking classes are viable in their respective roles. Same goes for DPS classes!

I have to agree, the guide applies perfect for Vanilla WoW but today, the days of class balance, most of the information doesn't quite hold true.
I like the idea though, does anyone know of a quiz or dichotemous (I cant spell, what can I say...) key that leads one to the perfect class for them?
Obviously, this would never work perfectly as people like classes for different reasons. I love druids, not because of the versatility, I love their style of healing and HoTs are perfect after being a warlock so long. I have been a healer since day 1.
TL;DR
This guide doesn't quite apply to the WoW of today and the reasons people choose classes is not always obvious.

That, and the shaman guide is entirely unhelpful. "If you like a class that uses totems to support your attack, this may be the class for you." But if you're new, how would you know:
a) what a totem is.
b) what playing with totems is like.
Continuous: I have a few ideas for making a statement selected guide/quiz. Any idea for a place I can actually experiment with one?

Have to agree with all the above.
It talks about mana but never explains what the deal is there or why a rogue and warrior are special in not using mana. The rune commentary is clunky. The shaman comments might as well not be there. "Two forms of DPS." Be nice if they told people what that meant. The lack of comments on Moonkin was bad, and the paladin comment doesn't even really touch on the fact that they are the premier tank healers and excellent tanks.

Oh and I just watched the shaman "gameplay video"
49 seconds into the video: Shaman at full health, has riptide ticking on them and earth shield on, and then a Fury Warrior notices them.
Shaman at 59 seconds into video "You have died. Do you want to release to the nearest graveyard?"
Well, at least it was accurate...
