Lich King strategy and tutorial video
The video embedded above, WoW.com's Lich King Tutorial, marks the arrival of Jerome Phillips (also known as Vodka's Kinaesthesia) to our team. He has a lot of talent and a lot of ideas, so we're happy to have him. You've probably seen some of his work before, most notably his trailer for Patch 3.3's Frozen Halls. This Lich King tutorial is just the first of many projects we'll be doing together, so we hope you enjoy it and find it useful. Due to the length of the encounter (and thus the tutorial), it has been split into two parts. The first part is above, and the second part is behind the cut below. As is true with all things in life, these videos are best when viewed in HD.
This video is just the beginning of a larger project here at WoW.com. We're working to bring more video content to the site in all areas, raids and otherwise. We have big plans for Cataclysm in particular. With this in mind, we've made it a point to make our video content easier to find and navigate. Any videos made by the WoW.com staff will be posted to our new YouTube channel rather than scattered across the staff's personal channels willy-nilly as they have been in the past. Check it out, and if you're feeling especially kind, go ahead and subscribe, too.

Thanks for posting, this is great! :D

How did players survive the mass kill done by the Lich King? I see at least 2 players dpsing him while he is gloating.
jussivuo Mar 19th 2010 4:58PM
With soulstones?
Azizrael Mar 19th 2010 5:12PM
Looks like two rogues, one at full health, so soulstone is unlikely. Maybe vanish/cloak of shadows/whatever works on it? (I don't play a rogue, as you can probably tell)
Goldfing666 Mar 19th 2010 5:22PM
guardian spirit? *shrug*
Ver7ig0 Mar 19th 2010 9:44PM
You can vanish it. One of our rogues brought him to 5% by himself before the rezzes came. Fastest burn ever, the Lich King didn't even get to finish his "They cannot fear" line. Fun stuff.

I'm a gm of my own guild and we're working on this fight right now. Other guides for the fight had been nice but I've got players who didn't always see or understand how things were working and was considering trying to make one of my own when I saw this posted today. Things I was most excited with this video were close ups of debuffs on the bars, arrows to members to indicate movement, clear floor plans off to the side, and pauses in the video at points to show key things to look for. I hope to link these videos to my raiders and thank you the creator for all the obvious effort and time it took to make these very excellent videos.

Hey, this is a great video Ive ever seen. Crispy clear and such. I wonder if you guys willing to install subtitles for deaf players alike?
Warcloud Mar 20th 2010 2:53AM
These videos are outstanding. Well done

This is comprehensive and great.
What do you do if you get into the Frostmourne room in phase 3?
Shinhan Mar 20th 2010 11:25AM
If you are healer dispell the debuff on the good guy and heal him up.
If tank/DPS just DPS the bad guy while interrupting his channeling thingy.

Awesome strat video! I agree, this strat video is much easier to understand than Tank Spot's videos ever since Ciderhelm stopped narrating them himself.

Video Feedback: I love the overall style of the video - moving the camera around the screen to highlight effects, listing names and spell details at the side, explaining each phase in parts. I'd say these videos are certainly more informative and easier to listen to and understand than TankSpot's.
Suggestions for Improvements: It would be good to see a still frame now and again, to exactly pinpoint the mob or spell going across the screen. Also, some sort of illustration across the screen, like a hand drawn arrow or circle around something that is important, just to highlight it and make the video more interactive. :)

You guys ever think of doing two audio tracks? one with just the game sounds and another with the narration? Would be neat to be able to play back the video and just enjoy the fight that a lot of us might never see.
Just sayin.

Nice, I like it when Wow.com does this ^^

Let's be honest, these types of videos are useless for 90% of the guilds out there because you'll never have the healing output, the DPS output and the type of geared tanks these guilds making the videos run with. Therefore, the strategies they use will get most guilds killed. The only way to learn is to get in there and fight and come up with your own strategy tailored to the group of people you have with you.

I'd disagree. If you have sufficient DPS and HPS to have a reasonable chance to win this fight, then it's all about knowing how to dance. The "my-guild-is-uber" strategy vs. "it-took-us-40-tries-to-down-Sindragosa" strategy are not radically different - run to the Shambling Horror on Necrotic Plague, face the raging spirits towards the center, keep hots up for Infest, run away from Defile zones, etc. etc. Know the dance and you win,

Which AddOn is used for the unitframes in this video?
By the way that's one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard :>

whats the web side of the wrath of lich king
Arbolamante May 13th 2010 11:26AM
Why aren't the pets being blown up in the transition phase? There's a demon on him the whole time, and other pets are running all over the center. I've only healed this fight, so I wasn't paying much attention to where pets were positioned.
