Breakfast Topic: If you could have any ability in WoW

I used to know this guy who did a podcast for his web series. One day while answering listener questions, he read off a really fantastic question related to World of Warcraft.
"If you could have any ability in WoW, what would it be?"
At the time he picked Teleport: Shattrath, rationalizing that with that spell he could teleport to Azeroth and learn the rest of his mage's spellbook. A very "wish for more wishes" kind of answer, right? Eventually his co-host foiled him though, reminding my friend that a Rune of Teleportation regeant is required to cast the spell so he'd never be able to cast it on Earth.
I thought long and hard on this question myself though, and being prone to illness I was immediately drawn to a paladin's Cleanse spell. Never being sick for the rest of your life would be amazing, right? Not to mention, you could cure everyone else. I don't know how Cleanse would respond to viral infections versus bacterial infections, but I'd really love to knock out HIV. I don't know what mana cost would do to a person in real life, but I bet Gatorade is just like mage water. I wonder what level I am?
Anyway, in the end, my boyfriend at the time brought my attention to an even better idea: Concentration Aura. As a creative sort, I imagine that the aura would be useful for getting mundane things done. Like starting that back burner novel, or studying for a test with your outline group. If you were performing something on stage, all your fellow performers would receive the benefits of the aura as well. Imagine working at DARPA with Concentration Aura up: we'd destroy the world in a matter of years. I mean... what?
So what ability in WoW would you pick for yourself?

For a whopping 10 minutes? I've waited in a line at the drive-thru at Taco Bell for longer than this for "fast" food.
Go with Mark of the Wild.

"Why do you carry a dozen ankhs in your purse all the time?" XD
Craig R Mar 21st 2010 8:20AM
I was going to call reagent, but technically ankhs exist in the real world, so this basically wins.
basically you can bring yourself back to life until you're A) very old and B) your mental stability erodes.
alurius Mar 21st 2010 8:23AM
ahhh i almost forgot about ankhs, been so long since i applied that glyph :). looks like it's time to take up inscription IRL.
Danarok Mar 21st 2010 8:23AM
...Which would fail for the same reason Teleport: Shattrath would fail. No reagents.
Artificial Mar 21st 2010 8:26AM
@Danarok: Believe it or not, ankhs exist! :D

and that is where you're wrong, you CAN buy ankhs in the real world. unlike many of the other reagents required for some wow spells, ankhs are very easily accessible.

And i bet i could make my own runes of teleportation

I hear the upcoming Goblin Racial makes everything 10% cheaper from vendors. A lifetime 10% discount wouldn't hurt.

I'm with Gamer Am I - flight of any kind would be the best thing to bring here from Azeroth. I play with one of my best friends from college, and seeing as how she's roughly 1000 miles away from me, either one of us being able to fly to the other's place would make life so, so much better.
Gemini Mar 21st 2010 12:30PM
I've done some estimating, and a 280% flying mount goes about 60 mph if you go by WoW's estimation of yards. Would be a long flight.
Mattimus Mar 21st 2010 1:06PM
At a constant 60 MPH, a 1000 mile trip would take about 16-17 hours nonstop. Assuming you stop, you can make the trip in about two days, but you'll need to find somewhere to sleep.
Thankfully, you can drop off at any Red Roof or Best Western, shift back into a human, and use the money you save on gas to rent a room for the night.
The thing to consider, though: would you shift into a bird with magical storage for anything in your bags? Could you load yourself up with three big suitcases and turn into a bird, or is the Backpack a separate ability?

Having an ability like cleanse could also make your life a living nightmare, all those people who want to get cured is the least of your worries, all the people (working for farmaceutical companies) that maybe dont want you around anymore are the worst.
I myself would love a teleport: moonglade, dont need a reagent for that :)
deathgate would scare the shit out of me i think ^^
Craig R Mar 21st 2010 8:17AM
death gate can only end badly, I agree.
Helston Mar 21st 2010 9:16AM
You'd have no way out of Acherus, thanks to a lack of Org/SW portals, and you having never gone anywhere else in Azeroth, hence no flight paths. That and there's the whole death knight thing up there.

My girlfriend says tame beast- not a bad one. I would go with army of the dead and start the zombie apocalypse on earth. Zombieland anyone?
Babaloo Mar 21st 2010 10:36AM
Heh, maybe for 40 seconds. Then what?
Eddy Mar 21st 2010 1:48PM
I was thinking tame beast. It would be totally rad to get an exotic pet like a mountain lion or a fennec fox and never have to worry about it being like, really wild towards you.
Craig R Mar 21st 2010 8:16AM
Shadowform.
I just wanna be translucent and purple all the time.
