Breakfast Topic: Suffer mortals, as your pathetic eardrums betray you

No, it's none of the above. It's her voice. It's that awful, rasping, screeching bellow. It's the way she draws out the word 'betray' that wasn't so bad the first time I heard it but let me tell you three wipes in and I was ready to turn off the sound effects entirely. I want to kill her every week not because there is loot to be had, but so that I do not have to listen to her anymore.
On the other hand, back in the days of Blackwing Lair I begged my raid leader to let me trigger the Nefarian event, just because I really wanted to hear him talk. I forget the exact number of times we wiped on Nefarian before finally killing him for the first time, but the silky way in which he said "Let the games begin" made it a little easier to take. There are other bosses and encounter voices I love -- nobody can forget Millhouse Manastorm, he of the infamous "I'm gonna light you up, sweet cheeks!" I always loved the voice of C'thun. The first time I stepped foot into AQ40 and heard that eerie, low voice from out of nowhere, politely informing me that my friends would abandon me and that I would die, I nearly yelped aloud.
But Sindragosa. Ah, Sindragosa, you have reached a level of irritation with me that rivals even Jaina Proudmoore's incessant sobbing or Kael'thas' never ending bantering in Magister's Terrace -- which now takes longer to listen to than it takes to kill him. So how about you guys -- who's tops on the voice acting in your opinion? Who do you love to hear every time you kill them? Whose voice makes you reach for the mute button?

Devourer of Souls. The Forge of Souls also has some of my favorite dungeon music!

You beat me to it. This is my single favorite voice in the game.

The first time I did FoS I literally crapped my pants in awesome. Not only did they put in a Jame Brown boss (huge fan), they put in soul music. And when I first heard that Devourer of Souls intro, I almost screamed (in vent) cause I thought it was so cool. In terms of sounds and music, I think FoS is one of the strongest instances I've ever experienced.

@n-train: so what did you do with your crappy pants?

[Forge of Souls, Black Knight enters]
Black Knight: I've come to finish my task.
Devourer of Souls: You dare look upon the host of souls?! I SHALL DEVOUR YOU WHOLE!
[Brann Bronzebeard runs in]
Brann Bronzebeard: You'll find me wherever the action is.
Black Knight: You spoiled my grand entrance, rat.
[Curtain]
To be continued.. ;)

I love Illidan's voice. I have to admit I'm a bit of an Illidan fangirl as watching Nihilum's video of killing him is what fueled my raiding motivation throughout all of BC (ironically, I got a new job and had to quit on Council), but yeah, I love Illidan's voice (and was shocked to find out that "Illidan's voice" is actually 3 different people, depending on where it appears. No matter.) The BC opening cinematic, the Black Temple Trailer, and finally the opening speech for the encounter itself. Goose bumps.
That's all. I haven't actually done enough raiding in Wrath to comment, I think (the one or two ICC PUGs I joined actually failed on Marrowgar... or his trash ._. ) Oh, except I cannot WAIT to be able to skip the CoS prologue. But that's more because it gets really, really old after the 50th time you run it, not so much because it's bad.
(Psst: Should be "whose" in that last sentence. /grammar nazi.)

Just a side note the voices in the black temple trailer are the voices from WC3: TFT

This is what I get for getting four hours of sleep the night prior. Fixed, thank you! :)

I agree, Sindragosa is so annoying! They really need to get a new actress (sounds a bit like Deathwhisperer anyone?)
Rapskallion Mar 22nd 2010 9:44AM
Yes. When I first heard Sindragosa I immediately thought she sounded exactly like Deathwhisper. I'll bet, dollars to doughnuts, they used the same voice actor for those two with some minor inflection changes.
Caylynn Mar 22nd 2010 11:45AM
I agree. Sindragosa is incredibly annoying. When we were learning the fight and wiping a bunch, I absolutely hated having to hear her over and over again.
uncaringbear Mar 22nd 2010 5:37PM
It's not unusual to use the same voice actor for multiple characters. Not only is it more economical, but you have the benefit of using the same level of quality from someone who is already familiar with your production.
Of course, if that voice actor is mediocre, then it doesn't work so well. Fortunately, most of Blizz's voice acting is quite good. My favourite has always been the voice actress who did the voices of the female night elves and a few others:

A good voice actor is head and shoulders above the less-than-good actors.

She's the former insane, undead consort of an insane dragon aspect, cut her some slack.
Eisengel Mar 22nd 2010 8:22PM
Sindragosa may be bad, but Keristrasza's voice is just pure wtf. She sounds not quite so much like an the tortured, insane dragon servant of the Aspect of Life than a miffed reedy-voiced housefrau yelling about someone taking the last paper towel and not replacing the roll.
Banic Rhys Mar 22nd 2010 8:45PM
"Finish it! Finish it! Replace it, or I swear by the Dragonqueen you'll never see daylight again!"
Evelinda Mar 23rd 2010 7:21AM
ok, now admittedly i havent spent nights wiping on her and listening to her go on and on over and over, i've only listened to the audio files, but i think Sindragosa sounds AWESOME... she sounds incredibly tortured, and quite insane, which fits in perfectly with what she's supposed to be... the reanimated remains of the consort of the (now also insane) aspect of magic, who went crazy and swore revenge on EVERYTHING before she died.
