Breakfast Topic: Suffer mortals, as your pathetic eardrums betray you

No, it's none of the above. It's her voice. It's that awful, rasping, screeching bellow. It's the way she draws out the word 'betray' that wasn't so bad the first time I heard it but let me tell you three wipes in and I was ready to turn off the sound effects entirely. I want to kill her every week not because there is loot to be had, but so that I do not have to listen to her anymore.
On the other hand, back in the days of Blackwing Lair I begged my raid leader to let me trigger the Nefarian event, just because I really wanted to hear him talk. I forget the exact number of times we wiped on Nefarian before finally killing him for the first time, but the silky way in which he said "Let the games begin" made it a little easier to take. There are other bosses and encounter voices I love -- nobody can forget Millhouse Manastorm, he of the infamous "I'm gonna light you up, sweet cheeks!" I always loved the voice of C'thun. The first time I stepped foot into AQ40 and heard that eerie, low voice from out of nowhere, politely informing me that my friends would abandon me and that I would die, I nearly yelped aloud.
But Sindragosa. Ah, Sindragosa, you have reached a level of irritation with me that rivals even Jaina Proudmoore's incessant sobbing or Kael'thas' never ending bantering in Magister's Terrace -- which now takes longer to listen to than it takes to kill him. So how about you guys -- who's tops on the voice acting in your opinion? Who do you love to hear every time you kill them? Whose voice makes you reach for the mute button?

Here's a tip for Kael'thas in Magister's Terrace. Aggro him BEFORE you finish the group that's in front of him. That way the battle start immediately and I think it doesn't do any of his intro speach.
I know, it's a bit late now, and aggroing him at level 70 before anyone had recovered from that last group is pretty much a no-no, but if you're farming him for the pet or mount, this tip helps a lot.

If i'm tired, i hate EVERY mob that makes an effort to kill me. usually cuz' it scares the shit out of me. i keep my volume really high because i have an mp3 addon that i listen too, but it bugs out when i zone out. and when you hear a bat screech in ghost land, with your volume on high.. that's enough to piss me off and kill the bat.

Hate Xt Deconstructor's voice after the first couple of amusing times. I mute the sound, always.
The most memorable, and probably because I have an alt in the Sunken Temple stage of random dungeons, is one of the dragons before you kill Eranikus. "Don't wake the dreamer!" kind of sends shivers down my spine.

Oh and Interrogater Vishas in SM GY--'naughty secrets! I'll rip the secrets from your flesh!'
Killik Mar 22nd 2010 9:16AM
Yeah, that really startled me when I first heard it, as it was the first time I'd seen a boss with a unique voice.
Adrian Mar 22nd 2010 8:27AM
I would have to say my fave is when you start the Festergut encounter, nice work blizz :) anyone who tips their hat to Futrama has my vote lol

The first time I heard Sindragosa on the title screen, I freaked because it was very sudden and very loud (was NOT expecting it to be that loud!). Hopefully when Cataclysm is released we won't have to deal with hearing her screaming at us every time we go to log in...
Rabbit Mar 22nd 2010 9:38AM
I couldn't agree more. The current login screen is the single greatest reason that I am looking forward to Cataclysm. I hate that screeching dragon so much that I mute my computer until logged in. I hope that Cataclysm returns us to something more heroic and blood stirring.
McRaider Mar 22nd 2010 5:37PM
Maybe it's supposed to make you log on faster...?
come on, come on... autherticator GODDAMNIT! *screeeeeech* noooooooooo

Tons of bosses have same voice actors / actresses, at least to my ears, and it's pretty often ruining the moment really. Malygos sounds like every other male blood elf, Lady Deathwhisper = Sindragosa as someone already posted, that guy between first two bosses room and Arthas in HoR sounds like someone's grandpa trying to act scary for a bedtime story, etc., etc. Can't remember all of them right now, but some voices are really disappointing.
Tom Mar 22nd 2010 8:31AM
Not to mention Deathwhisper's superbly annoying intro.
Woif Mar 22nd 2010 9:02AM
Your right about Malyagos. Cam Clarke did both him and male blood elves. (He sounds just as arrogant in person too)
WoWie Zowie Mar 22nd 2010 9:14AM
lol this
its funny because we were just talking about how annoying sindragosa's voice is last night ;D
first, she doesn't sound like a big dragon. she sounds like an old lady.
second, she says her lines WAAAAAAYYY too often in the fight. and add to the fact that its a fight you will probably be doing over and over again and you got ugly voice cracking on "betrays you" ringing in your ears.
at least lady deathwhisper only says her speech at the very beginning. 'elevated to heights beyond your ken!'
Swifteye Mar 22nd 2010 10:23AM
Ha, it's funny you should mention this... I was gonna post this as my own comment, but since you beat me to the characters in question I'm just gonna chime in!
This is gonna sound ultra-pathetic, but I (as a female IRL) made a male Blood Elf toon just so I could listen to myself /silly and /flirt sometimes. I hate how "flamboyant" and how utterly self-absorbed BElf males are, but dammit, I've been in love with Cam Clarke's voice ever since the first time I played Tales of Symphonia (which I've since played through at least a dozen times, and ALWAYS choose to keep Kratos rather than Zelos!)
I know he also did the voices for Medivh, Nexus-Prince Shaffar and Malygos, but since I don't really get to do group stuff (and since Belf males have the most to say by far anyway), I'm sticking with the BElf males as being my favorite voices in WoW for the time being.
Though if I *do* ever get to meet Medivh, Nexus-Prince Shaffar or Malygos (or any of the other big baddies they might enlist Cam to voice in future expansions), I might just find a new WoW love!
Draelan Mar 22nd 2010 4:55PM
Nexus-Prince Shaffar IS awesome. I always loved his voice acting. Come to think of it, many of my favorite voices in WoW are done by Cam Clarke.
And Swifteye, although my reasons for rolling a BELF were different (Wanted to roll a horde toon, but was also interested in trying a pally, so I had no actual choice for race. Not that I minded, really.) I, too, occasionally go somewhere out-of-the-way (such as anywhere in Silvermoon. =P), turn up the volume and listen to their emotes. They're pretty fun.
By contrast, I want to rip out my ear drums every time I hear a female blood elf laugh. It just rubs me the wrong way for some reason, and I hate it.
Female Tauren's voice acting also makes me a sad panda. At least the playable ones. Female NPCs sound good, but the playable females sound vaguely like women who are trying to sound like men...

I love Xevozz from VH. "Back in business! Now to execute an exit strategy." I used to dread hearing it. But now it is pure pleasure.
Tom Mar 22nd 2010 8:34AM
Rotface - Worst ever. That angry poop stuff he shouts about, no, just no.
Putricide on the other hand I love. Not just your ordinary boss voice.
Rafa Mar 22nd 2010 8:38AM
for me it's anub'rekhan..
his "shhh... it will all be over soon..." was the most hated quote of my guild..
all his quotes are so.. disturbing..
